Removed from RCG

Recommended Posts

I'm guessing this is one of those "truth is somewhere in the middle" situations

The passengers, both unvaccinated, said that during the boarding process in Miami on July 5 the company mistakenly gave them purple bracelets meant for vaccinated passengers that serve as entry passes to areas of the Freedom of the Seas ship where only the inoculated are allowed. They said that when the company realized its mistake on July 7, staff members made them take COVID-19 tests. One of those tests came back positive.

This story has been splash all across my feed and sent to me because I have a cruise coming up.

So this lady was removed from a RCG because she tested positive. Apparently when she boarded with her vax travel companion, they also gave her a vax band even though she wasn't vax. They tested her and she came out positive, so they removed her and the travel companion.

I just posted this in the news and rumor section. However, I read in an article on Google that her traveling companion was vax and she wasn't, that's how the crew member got mixed up. I have no sympathy for them as she claims she asked multiple times if unvax got bracelets. I mean it was spelled out on everything she did and read way before check-in. She got exactly what she deserves and I hope she get banned.

She tested positive.  End of story.

The mix up that resulted in her getting a bracelet did not cause her to become infected.

She knows her vaccination status.  She chose to play like she was vaccinated using the bracelet to go into areas she knows she didn't belong.  The signs don't say "purple bracelets only", the signs read "Vaccinated Guest Area".  She knew she was breaking the rules.

Got a free ride home in a private jet.  Hard to complain about that.

Mixups are going to happen.  No system will ever be perfect.

She needs to take accountability for her actions rather than trying to cast shade on the cruise industry.

She also made the claim that Royal was out to get her and falsified the test to make it positive.

Why would they do that?  That's the very last outcome they want and they don't need a COVID test result to remove someone from a cruise.  She had already violated the guest conduct policy at that point.  That's all they need to remove her.

This!!! Like being dressed in a space suit and following someone and washing everything they touch is anyones idea of a good time.

As a healthcare provider when they tell me the pt is positive and I have to dress in full PPE I assure you there is a lot of colorful language that comes with it!

I'm not going to watch that video based on her picture in the You Tube link.  It reminds me of every customer who had to tell us why they wouldn't wear a mask while grocery shopping during the pandemic.  ?

I saw the videos a couple days ago.  It's a 4 part series on TikTok along with some pretty colorful other TikTok's from her.

I didn't post about them because it was pretty clear very early on there was little reason to take them seriously.  Nut job.

So in summary... unvaccinated person tries to pretend they are vaccinated.  What could go wrong?

This adds an interesting twist to NCL suing the state of Florida for disallowing cruise lines to ask for vaccine passports.

I watched bits and pieces of this episode and it made me wonder what  exactly would she have wanted to happen? To let her just go back on the ship and pretend that she didn’t test positive?

I think Royal Caribbean did the responsible thing. Maybe it did get a little fumbled along the way (if what the person reported was indeed true) but at the end of day, this person did test positive and RC had no other choice but to discharge her from the ship (and as far as I can tell from the video, the crew did so with politeness and respect).

Call me crazy but if I tested positive for Covid, my first thought would be of the health and safety of me, my family, and my friends and not “Royal Caribbean is out to get me!! Let me turn on Facebook live”

Kudos to RC for implementing such a thorough evacuation protocol, from sealing her luggage to isolating the exit areas. The staff was totally professional throughout. I am impressed. Just WOW!!!

Just watched the video. Royal did a hell of a job protecting the other guests. I am not impressed by her reactions. She got a free cruise for being dishonest.  My thought is that if she actually made a mistake, she would have been a little more apologetic.

IMO she should have insisted on having her seapass card punched as she knew she was unvaccinated, and not taken the purple bracelet. But no, she was wanting to try and get away with being a "vaccinated" passenger when she knew she was not.

And yes, a free private jet ride home? Great way to get home.

I believe I’ve read elsewhere that she has since tested negative after returning home.  Why didn’t Royal do a second test to confirm the first positive?  Seems like a logical step to take given that these tests do have a history of false positives.

From the user's own comments about another test she demanded that she be allowed to observe the entire process, otherwise she refused another test.

I don't think it would be a good idea to expose the entire lab and testing equipment by having someone who has tested positive possibly contaminate the lab.  That could cause dozens of otherwise negative tests for other guests to turn positive.

The lab isn't designed with an observation area for suspected or known positive cases to observe from.  To put someone who has tested positive in the lab testing room would be completely inappropriate.

It was her own refusal to take a second test unless she could actively participate through the entire process that prevented a 2nd test from occurring.

Possibly because she broke other rules, like violating the 'vaccinated guests only' areas.   We don't know all the facts, but RCI may have opted to just remove her because of that.

What in the world would Royal get out of falsifying a test to make it positive??  Nothing! I'm sure the last thing that they want to do is have to escort someone off the ship. But the policy has been put in place and every passenger agrees to said policy, or they don't have to go on the cruise.

There was recently another account of a user who had a false positive test.  From all accounts that couple respected the process and cooperated with the response to the initial test.  It was a false positive as confirmed by a second test and they were allowed to continue on the cruise.  The interruption was brief, a few hours.

It appears to me that wasn't the case in this situation.  Faced with an uncooperative guest who had clearly been violating on board protocols and then to have that guest refuse a second test (unless she could actively participate) she effectively removed the ability to confirm or deny the virus infection.  I can't say I blame them for removing her.

I think we all knew given what is still occuring on airplanes that there would be these types of incidents on a cruise.  That's all this appears to be.

Oh.  I didn’t know she refused a second test.  Why would she do that?  Nothing to lose from doing the second test once the first it positive.  Maybe she was intentionally on board to cause trouble?

I doubt she went to the effort to fly to Florida and go on the cruise with a friend just to cause trouble.

Once she was busted for violating the on board policies, something she clearly admits she did, she immediately went into freak out mode.  Had she remained calm and cooperated her cruise would likely continue, assuming the second test came back negative.  Instead she started ranting claims of the initial test being altered.  It spiraled from there.

No one wants to get the news of a positive test result.  This is on her and how she handled the situation.  If she had cooperated she would have been back at the pool bar an hour later drinking a frozen margarita.

The scary part to me is that she slipped through without having her card punched to begin with.

This is why the CDC wanted test cruises.  To make sure crew were following process and procedures.

Crew are human, they are going to make mistakes.   In the end the process worked.

I was on the boat for this incident and now some things make sense.  Our cabin was on the 8th deck as well.  The elevator wouldn't stop on the 8th deck and when we went via the stairs the door to the staterooms was closed.  We opened the door to find crew members on the inside who allowed us to go to our room in the aft section of the boat.  When we left the room we went to the hallway and were stopped by crew in the hazmat suits informing us to go around.  They were doing crew drills during the day so were weren't sure what was going on.

Recently there was another example of a guest who had an initial positive test.  In that case the couple fully cooperated with the response team.  They became part of the solution by remaining calm despite what must have been a shocking "oh sh*t" moment.  A few hours later they were back at the Schooner Bar laughing about it.

That could have been the outcome here.   That should have been the outcome here.  In this case this guest caused the situation to unravel with the actions she chose.  This is on her.

So long as there is a willing audience and an enabling media, these types of ‘horror’ stories will continue to appear. Unreasonable and self righteous personal drama created by agenda-driven malice. Deflect responsibility by completely ignoring the rules to which she agreed. Screaming loudly in an attempt to drown out her own culpability will not convince anyone of her being a victim. Except those looking for support of their own agenda. Sad.
