First Time With RCL and SC

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. My husband, daughter, and I are set to cruise with Royal Caribbean on the Oasis 4 day sailing in April. We scored one of the new UPS rooms. I figured why not try out Royal Caribbean with a bang haha!  I have been following the group and love all the blogs! This will be my 3rd cruise. I am a total "newb" The last two were with Carnival and the worst ever. Ecstasy and Victory. Absolutely not the best ships but you have to start somewhere.  I wanted a better experience and have been wanting to try RCL for a minute. I am driving my husband crazy with "cruise talk"? I figured I could come to this forum and share my excitement with others who are just as excited. I also am planning to live blog the cruise as that room is a new room. A couple things I had questions on...

One thing I have not seen here much is tips for the Miami port. Is there a system for star class? Is it the same as the other ports I have read about?

I am a diamond member for Hilton.  Is there a Hilton in Miami that is close to the port.

Tips for the SC for a short 4 day sailing. If you had 4 days on the oasis what would you make sure to do?

We are looking at a longer cruises but figured this would get our feet wet.  Thank you for all the help and for all the interesting topics that have been posted. ?

U R going to love it.  Oasis was one of the last ones to get upgraded I believe so it is in top notch shape.  You will not be bored.

Consider the Group Cruise in November on Harmony if looking for something a little longer.  Great people and a great itinerary.

I'd love to hear this also. We are scheduled on our first SC cruise in January and it is on Oasis also. Please post about the Miami Port and SC when you return. I'd love to hear all about it.

For Miami if driving I'd highly suggest parking at the terminal in the garage. Yes, it does cost more versus a park and go type lot but the traffic ease makes it worthwhile.

Star Class side, keep and eye for the banner near the main entrance and don't hand your luggage over to any until an agent summons a porter. Same applies if parking in the garage, you’ll need to drag your luggage to the entrance unless you deal with the traffic and make the loop around.

Best part is the Genie will take of all the key highlights and arranging a schedule. Truthfully I think a 4 day sailing will burn you out trying to fit everything in. Plan on a show every night, some nights it might be two. Dining, sure everything will be covered between lunches and dinners.

Not only have you booked the only Oasis class ship that has been amplified, you also are going to be sailing out of the new terminal in Miami, which is another big bonus !!  The suites lounge (if they are using it...which I would be very very surprised if they are not) is a completely separate area with separate elevator access.  There will be a Star Class greeter outside of the terminal that will get you where you need to go.  Do NOT give your luggage to anyone until after you check in with the SC greeter.  Your Genie will meet you in the suites waiting lounge and escort you onto the ship. Congratulations !!  Nice digs for your first Royal Caribbean cruise !

You are such a wealth of knowledge! I have read one of your blogs about the luggage. ??  Girl I will not give it to anyone lol! I am practicing my “hands off the luggage!” moves ?

We are staying a couple days in Miami before the cruise and are looking to uber from the hotel. I just don’t want the uber guy to drop us off at the wrong place is all.

In the ride share case make it very clear not to drop you off in the first area. This will be where a majority of the porters are and folks will try to direct you to pull over. Just have them keep going to the front entrance.

Post cruise pickup can be a pain in the rear if getting off later.

This video might help visualize the drop-off layout. 7 minute mark is the normal drop-off area. Goal drop-off area is coming in view at the 7:23 mark.

So I watched the video and he mentions it is numbered 1-5 for drop off. Do you know what number SC drop off should be?? Looks like 7:23 mark was at end of drop of and right before pick up. Is this correct?

Ideal is that area that comes in view at 7:23, just after the main drop-off area. Right after where it says "Welcome" and those blue cones are. That is the main entrance to the terminal and the Star Class banner would be near the doors.

It is somewhat of tight squeeze at that point. Unless things have changed it would be great if the Star Class banner was closer to the curb. Excuse I was told why it wasn't curbside was so people using the elevator would notice it.

Basically when you pull into the terminal and you're in the far right lane, there's a curb where they're getting everyone out of the cars and taking luggage.  You want to keep going and you'll see a closer to the curb wall area, which is the backside of the elevator banks.  You want to be dropped off right past that for Star Class.
