BillSikkenga
I received the email for the RoyalUp today. Thanks to all that have commented on this post, as it was very informative in deciding if I wanted to try for an upgrade or not. My wife, daughters 15 and 10, and myself are booked in a JS on the Allure of the Seas, departing March 27, 2022. I ended up bidding a little over the minimum for a 2 bedroom Grand Suite, and the minimum for a 2 bedroom Aqua Suite. I'm really hoping we win one of them, and if we do, I'm not telling my family about it until we open the doors on the ship! I can only imagine the surprise looks on their faces, especially if we get the Aqua Suite! Again, thank you all for the posts! teddy, Neesa, HBCcruiser and 1 other

Personally since the program started I have managed to be the winning bidder for upgrades (mostly from within Royal Suite Class) about 90% of the time. Let’s see how our cruise at the end of July pans out but if I win an upgrade then I’m either lucky or I bid too high! Either way, I really enjoy having the option to upgrade. I think it is depend on the price you are bidding. I don't think luck has anything to do with it.

Va4fam
Congrats @BrianB...that will be a great room on Anthem. The RoyalUP news has been quiet lately, and started to wonder if the team in charge of picking the winning bids had run out of good mojo. Still no word on our bids for Oasis at the end of February, but hoping for the best.

I’m on Anthem right now we they accepted our Royal Up bid taking us from a balcony to a grand suite then once we got on board (and I’ve never done this before) my husband and I went down to guest services right after the sail away after we cleared the Verrazano Bridge to see if they had any empty suite higher than a grand we got an onboard upgrade to an owners suite for only $900 additional dollars total not per person. We started out with the balcony guarantee got the Royal UP decided to roll the dice when we got onboard scored an upgrade to the owners suite all for $7,100 dollars TOTAL!!!!! That is a far cry from the near $17,000 dollars Royal wanted for this 11 night cruise if we would have booked the Owners Suite out right when we book this cruise last minute. To top things off we went to the casino last night played one hand Wheel of Fortune and won $500 dollars. You could have knocked me over with a feather. CrznTxn
We were going to bid on an upgrade from a balcony to a Jr Suite on our upcoming March cruise but when we contacted Royal (it is booked through Casino Royale) we found that to go ahead and upgrade through them was actually less expensive than the RoyalUp and we are able to double our double points . May have been less due to the wife's casino and our C&A status but their RoyalUp minimum prices seems to have increased lately and I have been unable to manually "modify" the bid to less than their minimum. FYI, if you booked this prior to January 15th of this year the rate for balconies, oceanviews, and interiors has dropped by about 50% since then. Time to utilize the cruise with confidence price guarantee and claim that OBC. Could be around $600 per person. WAAAYTOOO

It's currently about $400 more than we originally booked it for now. I've been watching it like a hawk and it has never dropped below that price from almost 2 years ago. It's definitely a deal for those that book a guaranteed ocean view balcony now, but not if you picked your room and want to keep that location (near our travel buddies). Michelle Barker
Question- do you get a say in where your upgrade is if you do get one? My current room on Oasis OTS is central Park view mid ship because we get motion sickness. If we put in a bid and it gets accepted, is it possible to request to stay midship? Lovetocruise2002
12 hours ago, Michelle Barker said: Question- do you get a say in where your upgrade is if you do get one? No. That is downside of Royal Up. Unless you are bidding on a room where there's a specific location for it (like some of the suites) you could end up anywhere. Rcnewbie
This is my first RC cruise and had a question on the royal up program. If we have two rooms book and win the bid for a two bedroom suite could we cancel one room and have all four people in the suite?

Short answer: No. Of course, you CAN, but if you do that the 2 BR booking would be repriced and your RU savings (not to mention the cost of the RU itself) would be lost. KLA
I have three bids out going from my OV room on Symphony - Regular OV Balcony, Junior Suite, and CLS. I'd be VERY happy with any of those (I mean, I'd also be perfectly happy in our OV on deck 8 nearby Central Park), but I'm REALLY hoping for that CLS (even with the price tag the upgrade carries - which I still feel is pretty reasonable going from an OV). Absolute dream cruise room - I'd never leave, and eat all meals in Coastal Kitchen. EmptyNestTravels and WAAAYTOOO 1
TonyYOW
I know my upgrade isn't as exciting as the ones mentioned above, but still, just for overall stats. Me and my daughter just won Spacious Ocean View for $40 CAD per person on Anthem, March 13th. Initially we had the cheapest "we pick your room" Interior. There is a well known big box retailer that offers cash cards but they don't participate so if you booked through, there won't be a RoyalUp option. Other big online type travel companies also do not participate in the upgrade program. Once you get away from the large online or warehouse type travel agencies most "regular" travel agencies do participate in RoyalUp. We are 106 days out. Is it too early to bid? We also booked throughm sister's Pueblo Bonita Timeshare agency so I wonder if we are even eligible for Royal Up..

VAmarshbag
Hello! My family and I are going on our first cruise on mariner of the seas within the week! I’m so excited but nervous about getting a cabin with the bunk type beds for my kids. Right now we’re in an interior cabin that’s already been assigned but I’ve done 5 royal up bids on every upgrade available- all bids in the middle left of the scale. I was hoping that at least ONE of them would bite, especially since we’re are only sailing at 50% capacity (right?). So far, they are all still pending. Any advice? I just want an upgrade that will allow my kids to sleep somewhere other than three feet above me. Should I increase my bids? Wait it out? I’ve never posted on one of these so any advice is appreciated!!

S Welcome to the forums! I believe capacity is above 50% these days - that doesn't mean you won't get your Royal Up, but there's never any way to know for sure. If you really want to ensure an upgrade, it's better to just go ahead and call Royal or your TA and just do that. VAmarshbag
