There are more people in this photo from the weekend than a full Oasis class ship. There are more people in this stadium than 14 full Oasis class ships.

No masks, no social distancing, no COVID....No cruise ships. The CDC aren't the only losers out there.

What in the... where is this? Recent photo?

4 days ago.. Melbourne, Australia. Just making the point that you could be like this and the CDC probably still wont let you guys sail.

Wow that is nuts... It looks like Australia no longer has a pandemic or something? Lol.. no masks is crazy nor social distancing. I have seen some baseball events in the US with over 40,000 fans, some masks but mostly not... crazy... It still boggles my mind when I see large gatherings like these yet the CDC won't even allow cruises to restart sooner rather than later with all the safety protocols. Hopefully by mid-summer things are back rolling again.

I hear many people talking about the "low risk" of Covid as a reason to stop masks, not get vaccinated, etc.  The way I look at it is the same way I look at how much money I am willing to bet in the casino.  I never bet more than I am willing to lose.  In this case, you are betting your life, regardless of your age or other health considerations, this virus can kill you or cause very serious life long problems.  I am not willing to make that bet, or want the chance that I am forced to take that bet kept to a minimum.  And the frustrating thing is I have no control over other people's actions that basically force me to take it.  Especially when most of the stated reasons are as outrageous as they are.  Having said that, the risk without vaccinations and the other protocols in place , on a ship with the small, shared air space that is shared for extended periods of time would be many times higher than traveling by plane or pretty much any other activity.  The idea is to reduce that risk to as close to 0 as possible.  Given the ease of transmission and the impossibility of predicting the outcome of any particular infection, I think the protocols and vaccinations and other requirements are the only sensible  way to restart the industry.  It would probably only take one small outbreak on one ship to shut the entire industry down again.

Australia's COVID restrictions were much harsher than anything the CDC or states ever put in place. They're currently averaging less than 30 new cases per day. Adjusted for population, that would be the equivalent of 394 new cases per day in the United States, as compared with the 60,000 new cases the US actually had yesterday. So using the Australia photo to critique CDC policies is apples-to-oranges.

That said, @mattymay's point is very valid for Australia--it seems really bizarre why they would allow an event like in that photo but not allowing cruising.

Unfortunately, the CDC is guided more by politics than public health and science. The CDC has become another hammer to wield by whatever administration is in control in order to match their agenda.

And its sad to see the hypocrisy of those that ignore most of CDC guidance and suggestions on other matters (smoking, obesity, etc) but yet take CDC Covid recommendations as 100% Gospel that is never to be questioned and strictly adhered to

Well said!
