Quit playing games with my heart

The statement by the CDC:

“CDC is committed to working with the cruise industry and seaport partners to resume cruising following the phased approach outlined in the conditional sailing order,” CDC spokeswoman Jade Fulce said in a response to questions about Carnival. “This goal aligns with the desire to resume passenger operations in the United States expressed by many major cruise ship operators and travelers; hopefully, by mid-summer with restricted revenue sailings.”

Didn't take long for Carnival's president to backtrack.

“While we have not made plans to move Carnival Cruise Line ships outside of our U.S. home ports, we may have no choice but to do so in order to resume our operations, which have been on ‘pause’ for over a year,” Christine Duffy, president of the company’s namesake Carnival division, said in a statement Tuesday.

Just last week she tried to make Royal look un-American by moving ships out of the country.

Now that NCL made their announcement, they realize they have no choice?

Bring the conversation back to some semblance of seriousness for a moment, realistically, what is the most likely scenario:

1. This quote is accurate and Jade Fulce's comments to Bloomberg are based on what they are planning, but haven't announced something.

2. Jade Fulce assumed, or otherwise guessed without really knowing.

The comment backs up the Miami Herald article behind the paywall from CDC’s Martin Cetron. His comments were a bit more realistic, in that he paints a picture that if everything goes right, cruises could sail by July.

Quote

“In an ideal setting where we don’t have an overwhelming fourth wave of variants that are unresponsive to our mitigation strategies, that if all things go well as planned...I think with following the guidance we laid out we can all probably get to a place of partial resumption of sailing in July.”

Or...

3. Director Walensky has issued a new directive that forbids any CDC employee from talking to the media while Martin Cetron has been reprimanded and sent to count vials of vaccine at the outdoor vaccination tents in Nebraska.

I think it's nothing more than putting any lack of sailing this summer onto the plates of the cruise lines.  "Hey we gave you the instructions you've been begging for, if you can't meet them, not our fault"

Despite it being well known the cruise lines see them as obsolete and unworkable.

I read it as a stall game once again "yeah look, see we are being reasonable ...maybe". Lets face it if the announcement doesnt happen in the next week or ten days then July is dead, they wont have time to get the crews lined up, etc.

Do we really think the CDC is going to get comfortable that the fourth wave of alien jet fighters isnt coming back in that time frame ?

This ^

The entire CSO was supposedly the CDC not saying "no" anymore.  How's that working out?

Is anyone here a parent?  What do you tell your kids when they won't take no for answer?  "We'll see", or "I'll think about it".

It's just a way to stop a child from asking the same question over and over even though you know there is absolutely no way you are going to let it happen.

Reminds me of when I had a warehouse job where I spent 2 days straight sorting screws.

It's as exciting as it sounds.

Perhaps sufficient pushback from all the major lines is turning things.   The optics of more jobs moving off shore through suppression of operations can't help, especially when lines are offering the  tougher risk mitigation strategies.

The CDC hasn't given a millimeter.  Nothing has changed.

Until the CDC actually clears a ship to take passengers from a US port all of this is meaningless words.
