Double Points question for Crown & Anchor

Recommended Posts

As I understand it you would get double the regular pints awarded for the class of cabin you are in.  A balcony would normally be 7 points, for 7 N cruise. Now it will be 14 points.  A suite is normally double points, 14 points for a 7 N cruise.  So a suite would now be 28 points.  I believe the double points is thru Sept. 2022.  And I am hoping they extend it.

Quick question. I know Royal is granting double points for sailings booked through 2022 at this time. If I am booked in a balcony stateroom SOLO, will that also double my points? Essentially turning a 7 night cruise into 28 points.

Yes.  Basically whatever you would have received x 2.  Solo in a balcony normally gets you double points, so in this case, it would be x 4 leading to 28 points for 7 nights.

I agree with the math used by @Lovetocruise2002......

7 point for the sailing

7 points for solo

equals 14 points

DOUBLE the points and you are at 28 points.

Think about what would happen if you did a JS Solo 7 night cruise right now......I think all the double points would make you Infinity Pinnacle!!

Not optimistic it'll actually happen, but keeping fingers crossed for my Christmas cruise (junior suite for 10 nights) will happen for just that reason.

Well, for lots of reasons. But that's a big one. ?

I have 2 weeks in December also, in a suite.  I REALLY hope it happens.  Can't wait.  Been too long.  Have couple other cruises before that but am sure they will be cancelled.  I do think December will be a go.

I think there will be cruises by December. The wild card for us is will they allow cruises longer than 7 nights.

That is why I booked  BtoB cruises, but who knows.  And the reason I think my Sept. cruise will not happen as it is 9 days.  It was booked pre-pandemic.

Fingers crossed for our cruises!

Mathematically crossing the Pacific could make one Diamond Plus. 17 nights Sydney to Honolulu. Then 12 night Honolulu to Vancouver. Solo in Junior suite.

29 nights@ 6 points/night=174 points.

But don’t forget the the three night sailing from back in the day that got you to Gold (and apparently needed to qualify for the double points game)

174+3= 177 safely in Diamond Plus territory.

For my own piece of mind I contacted CAS and they confirmed it truly is double points.  Double what you would normally get.

After checking the FAQ section about double points, the term “qualified existing booking” makes me second guess whether my booking is qualified. I booked in September 2020 for December 2021 so since this was before the double points promotion was announced, is my booking “qualified”? Anyone know? TIA ?

Travel agents have access to special rates as do family and friends.  When crew bring family on board to sail for example, they don't pay the rates that you and I do.

That verbiage is there to cover those types of rates.

I emailed CAS and asked them.  All of my bookings qualify and I had 25 bookings at the time in everything from studio to star class.

I'm hoping with the continued delay to restarting they extend the date for double points past Sept 30, 2022. I have a GS booked in October 2022 and I would like to cash in!

Yeah, we are not booking anything until ships start cruising again here in the US, we don't want to tie up any additional money, but i keep looking at things to see if I can sneak in another double pointer or two!

Does Junior suite qualify for double points? If my cruise is 4 nights before end of Sept 2022 in a junior suite that's 16 points total?

Yes it does!

Assuming two in a JS, each guest normally gets 4 x 2 then another x 2 thanks to the double points promo.  4 x 2 x 2 = 16 points each.

You need to book it before the end of June 2021 though and sail before the end of September 2022.

Thanks! Trying to boost my C&A. Now that they will sail out of L.A. it'll be cheaper and shorter flight.

Saw that, junior suite doesn't get all the benefits of like CK so wasn't sure if it got the points as well.

On a ship like Navigator from LA there is no CK so the gap between JS and GS or above is not that much.

In a JS compared to a GS there is no breakfast in Chops, no suite lounge access or suite concierge services, no suite seating near the pool or in shows.

It's basically a slightly bigger balcony cabin with a tub and walk in closet (most ships), but you do get priority embarkation and double points which is one of the biggest draws for CAS members.

I know an enterprising couple that put the wife in a suite solo and the husband in the cheapest interior available.  Wife gets triple points for solo in a suite, currently 6 x points with the double points promo.

Once on board they get an extra key at guest services and use the interior cabin for luggage storage.  Wife still gets extra points for technically being solo in a suite.  They climb the CAS ladder as a couple faster this way.

Lastly, JS cabins are available on a refundable basis while GS or above typically are not.

Every time I search for cruises on the RCL website I don’t see the refundable deposit option. I’ve been looking at different dates in a JS on Navigator too. Do I have to call it in? I don’t use a TA.

Very last step just before entering credit card there should be a checkbox for refundable when it's available.

Guarantee cabins sometimes don't qualify for refundable.

I have never done a refundable deposit. The economist in me would approach decision through an equation.

estimated probability of going on sailing multiplied by refundable deposit premium.
Example: 50% chance of going on cruise X $400 refundable deposit premium=$200

deposit to be lost by booking non refundable=$200

Using these numbers it is a tossup.

It's a good way to snag a cabin and lock in a rate if you are not 100% on going.

At any point you can call and convert refundable to NRD but it uses the price difference on the day you call to reprice the cruise.  You can never convert an NRD booking to refundable.

It's a form of insurance.  During this pandemic having refundable bookings made life a lot easier for me.

Studio balcony cabins can have insane charges for refundable, like $2k more for a $1,300 cruise.  In those cases I often roll the dice and hope for a good outcome.

Grand Suite doesn't have refundable rates, so it's missing:

The VP Suite is one of the few "full suites" that offers refundable rates, but even more for that option.

For this particular cruise really not such a bad cost to make it refundable!

PSST.  Here's a secret.

When new deployments first open, as in the first 24 hours, sometimes they haven't fully loaded all options.

My Navigator 7 night March cruise had $0 more for refundable in a full suite.

Duh!  YOLO!  Booked it!

Do you get any C&A points if you use the Royal Casino offers and don't upgrade? Mine are only for interior 3-5 night.

Not a casino person but it may depend on the offer.  Generally with Royal if you only pay taxes and ports fees you get no points.  If you pay something out of pocket beyond the free offer you get points.  Call the casino department and ask for that offer.
