Double Points - Crown and Anchor - Away?

Recommended Posts

So with yet another wave of domestic cancellations perhaps coming. Was anyone else using the system to their advantage and doubling up points and in some cases Quadrupling.. I am a lowly man at 40 points and this double points in a Junior Suite and Subsequent cruise after was going to throw me into Diamond. Please someone give me some positivity!

The new Adventure and Vision sailings are very likely to deliver on that promise.

I just had to re-check the official FAQ to make sure, but yes indeed-y these sailings will qualify! (emphasis added)

The double points offer is exclusive to our most loyal guests, the Crown & Anchor Society members! Members will receive double Cruise Points on bookings made through June 30, 2021 for sailings departing January 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022.

I was already going to exactly hit the 30 points for Platinum with a 7-night sailing on Vision, but now I'll be 7 points toward Emerald to boot. ?

I am at 22 points currently but will be Diamond within the next 2 years.

6/12/21 AOS 7 day - JS - 28 points

11/21/21 Oasis 7 day- GS - 28 points

3/13/22 Liberty 7 day - Balcony - 14 points

6/2/22 Allure 7 day - Balcony - 14 points

1/15/23 Allure 7 day - Balcony - 7 points currently

If I am calculating correctly, I should be at 113 points with my current bookings.

I will sail in place of anyone who wants to take advantage of the bonus points but can’t actually sail. $50 for a 17 year old Eastern European to make the required documentation. I will absorb this cost and pay daily gratuities. Imagine, climbing the Crown and Anchor ladder without taking a step!

The sad part is that My, Wife and I have discussed if it is more financially sound for us to just book a cruise that potentially we cant go on if we could get the points to move up.

You only get the points if you sail on the ship.  If you don't go on the ship you don't get the points.

Better hope your assumed identity isn't wanted by the po-po.

Great way to evade a prison sentence.  "Here... go on a cruise like you are me. "   See ya!

I hereby rescind my offer to sail on anyone’s behalf in an effort to gain them Crown and Anchor points.

This points topic really stings ... C+A lost 14-15 years worth f my points. In 2018  I expected my emerald pin on a majesty  trip.  I had reached that plateau in June 2015 then didn't sail the next two years (Busy and was in  a friendly divorce) . Ok maybe they just missed it. 2019 on Indy it surely would be there. Nope. Got home and looked...  2003- 2018  disappeared  except that Majesty trip. I was knocked back to gold and like 28 points!!!!  (I should be 63 or 64!) I emailed and never heard a word. I called and didn't hear back. Called again  and nasty rep told me I needed receipts... I explained I don't save records that long. She was nasty again and hung up.  Very much not like the usual RCL people I deal with on the phone. I am bringing  what sea passes I do have, ship board photos, casino chips from the different trips and plan to sit down with a real person at the loyalty desk when I get back aboard Symphony ...  Despite all that I'm still loyal to royal...

I had a similar situation but had proof of my sailings.......so they gave me 1 point per cruise. Not 1 point per night, 1 point per cruise.....so I got 3 points instead of 21. I’m not bothered by it though, while the points and perks are nice I don’t base my vacations around how many points I get.

They did that on my older  bookings that they did record as well Didn't matter that a lot were in Suites... Just one point...  I'm not super Mario by any means  but no credit for this minor accomplishment doesn't sit well. 17 points from Diamond (My real  end goal so Fiance' can do lounge)is a whole lot closer than 52 points...

Forgive my ignorance - does this double points mean "double double" for suites?  So a 7 night cruise in a suite would be 28 points?

That is correct, 28 points in a suite on a 7 night cruise. Including the not so suite Jr. Suite.

I wonder if after all of the dust settles and things are back to normal for a while if Royal Caribbean will adjust the C&A tiers. I'm going from Diamond at 85 Points to D+ with 231 after the 14 nighter on Grandeur in February. Things are definitely going to get saturated and that 340 point benchmark that they already have in place might be a good sweet spot for an additional tier.

I highly doubt they will add more tiers to the CAS.  It already has a few more than some others in the industry.

To a large degree for the average Royal Caribbean customer this promotion will get them back to where they would have been.  There will be some on one side of the bell curve that will realize a higher gain but there will also be some on the other side of the bell curve that realize a loss from the pandemic.

The Diamond Plus level has long included a series of minor bumps in perks at different stages between 175 and 700.  It's a long haul from 175 to the next level but as you continue to advance the little extra perks are there at specific points.

The biggest single level up that most cruisers will ever experience remains Diamond and the double points promo will go a long way to having this tier reach the numbers it would have without a worldwide pandemic.

I think it was @twangster who gave a more detailed analysis in an older thread which I'll try to sum up in a couple sentences.  The extra points given out by this program is less than the number of points that were NOT given out due to the year long shutdown.  So the number of people advancing is really no different.  It's easy to assume the number of D, D+, & P C&A members is always increasing and yes there will be more of them after the double promotion.  However, there are also always people who have taken their last cruise due to age, illness, or death.  So it's a balancing act and Royal may not have to change the tiers to keep the same distribution.

There will also be a subset of repeat cruisers that just stop cruising. Not due to concerns about covid, but just that they've found a replacement vacation activity in the mean time.

I have frequently attended CAS Top Tier events on Royal cruises and I'm constantly reminded when they announce the numbers that the majority of the guests on most cruises are new to Royal.  The second largest group by a large margin are Gold CAS members.

Typically the 3rd group, Platinum are a big gap from Gold in terms of numbers and the trends continues from there.

As a frequent cruiser and frequent poster on cruise forums it's easy to start thinking we represent the majority of cruisers but we don't.

Most people only cruise once or maybe twice a year.  Some only once every two years.

When you start drilling into the numbers the double points promo really doesn't cause the CAS tiers to lean one way or the other in a significant way.

I don't see it happening. Royal Caribbean has the most tiers of any program already.
