Masks or Sheilds

Does anybody know if a face shield is going to be aloud instead of an actual mask?

Common sense says it should but who knows. I wear a neck gator, easy on and off, more comfortable to me but I could not get into Disney World with it even though by the CDC a neck gator is fine. Disney won't allow neck gators. The face shield is supposed to be more protective so it should be allowed.

A face shield and mask protect you and others from two different things.

A shield is used to prevent liquid from entering and exiting your face, for example if someone sneezes on you.

A facs mask filters out small airborne particles that you inhale and exhale as your breath

So one doesn't work instead of the other, but they work together to protect you from different contagions.

I witnessed a very rowdy exchange between a traveler and TSA at DFW airport last week.  Traveler felt a face shield alone was sufficient (no mask), they were escorted to the exit door, and not allowed back into the terminal. I assume a flight was missed.

I'm so very sorry for what I'm about to post.....I'm working a lot of hours and am tired.

The first thing I thought of when I read your reply was....

2021 and beyond cruise wear

I actually wore a space suite once (an older decommissioned one, of course) and I think I would prefer it over a damn face shield...looks cooler, at least!

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. As someone who still has to travel fairly frequently for my job, I would hate to be stuck next to that dumb ass.

Or wear two masks or 3 and a shield..just to be really safe...although with the new variant out, who knows yet what will really work.?

Anyone think cruising is coming back in 2021 for real??

Am hoping for last quarter?  I have a Europe cruise in Sept.  But it is based on what happens in England.  It is based out of Southampton.  That will all depend on the restrictions there, not the CDC here.  My summer cruises I am pretty sure will all be cancelled.

@Jax I am not sure that this type of mask would be allowed. It is really more of a modified face shield. From everything I have seen advertised/communicated from Royal they are leaning toward a paper or cloth style filtration mask. That is what they are using onboard the Quantum in Singapore as well.

We love the mingle mask. Who knows if they will meet cruise mask guidelines but they meet the guidelines in Alberta. These have been a life saver for my son attending in person school; he suffers from severe asthma and he uses these when his asthma is particularly bad.

This "mask" would not be permitted to be worn in my hospital; it really does not appear to do any of the things that are important for a mask to do.

Agreed, medical masks are required in our hospital too but in instances where non medical masks are required we have not had any problems with compliance with the mingle mask.  As it relates to cruising, I found this list of non permitted face masks/coverings on Royals site. Time will tell if this policy changes.

“Note that neck gaiters, open chin bandanas and scarves, and face masks with valves do not meet health authority guidelines and will not be permitted”.

My guess would be that Royal would disallow the mingle mask due to the fact that it had the same shortcomings as the disallowed items you quoted above from the website.
Interesting information, thanks for sharing.
