Budgeting Help

Recommended Posts

Hi All, currently budgeting for a future sailing (July 2022 Oasis OTS 7 night).  As I know cruise planner prices vary, do they vary that much?  Meaning can I use what I paid previously on a 4 night sailing (Navigator if that matters) and assume it would be close in price for a 7 night on Oasis?  For reference/examples from previous cruise:

Thrill Waterpark- $64.99/pp
Chops + 1 Dining Package $65/pp
Refreshment Package $20/day/pp
Voom $12/day/pp

This may be tough to answer but hoping to get an idea.....

Yes - vary with time and with respect to how close the cruise is.  There will be sales throughout the year, but not a guarantee you'll see it on the cruise you booked.  Many experienced members of this site watch the trends and have a historical feel for good vs over-stated pricing.  Keep reaching out.

Yes - I believe many people on this board make it an almost-daily practice to check Cruise Planner prices (including myself!)

I'm still new to the cruising game but here's some advice I've picked up -

  • It is almost always less expensive to book ahead on Cruise Planner than on the ship during the cruise.
  • If you don't want to check daily, I would definitely subscribe to update emails from RC and from Royal Caribbean Blog and check the prices when a sale is posted.
  • If you purchase something on Cruise Planner and then find it less expensive at a later date, the "return" to your credit card might take a few weeks but the purchase at the new price will be instant. So be careful with how you time the re-purchase with when your credit card bill is due.

From personal experience, if our August 2020 cruise actually did take place, we would have saved a significant amount from re-pricing and we booked a year ahead of time.

Lastly - Have fun perusing through the Cruise Planner! My wife and I spent several date nights with a glass of wine and a laptop planning our cruise.

Good luck!

I can attest that cruise planner prices swing regularly.  Sometimes wildly!

For example, I had a Perfect Day cruise scheduled on Majesty. The price for Thrill waterpark was $75 when I first looked.  By following closely I was able to find it for $35. What a deal!

Now if only Majesty hadn't been sold! ?

BTW: it is worth checking during an announced sale, but most of the time I don't find any real savings.

Yes, they definitely vary. For budgeting purposes, you could just fill in with whatever the highest price you're willing to pay, at least until you've been able to track prices for awhile.

My thoughts, though:

  • Waterpark - I doubt you'll see the waterpark at $65 for a peak of the summer cruise. Especially if Summer 2022 is the first summer of "normal" cruising. If I remember correctly, other commenters saw them $100 +/- (or more!) for Summer 2019.
  • Chops +1 - I don't think this is even offered anymore (at least for a 7 night)? On a 7-night Harmony sailing, our dining package options were 3-night or Unlimited.
  • Refreshment package - Again, basing off our Harmony sailing, I think the lowest we saw on the Cruise Planner might have been $20, but the standard CP "sale" price was probably $26 or so.
  • Generally, I think everything on CP is going to be trending upwards, with RC trying to recoup some of the income they've lost. Maybe not by a lot, as they hope to keep things accessible to the average budget, but still more expensive than in the past. Hope I'm wrong though!

Thanks everyone!  I haven't booked it yet so I am just trying to get a sense if what I paid previously are close to the average and what I can expect on a longer sailing on an Oasis class.  Does the sailing  length and class of ship play into pricing as well.  My other 2022 booking on Mariner doesn't  have prices listed yet.

Fingers crossed for my 2021 bookings! but that is a different story.....
