Grandeur Home Ported in Barbados

Recommended Posts

YIPPEE !!!  We are booked.  Feb 20 14 nights.  2 BR Grand Suite on the aft.  While we were booking our room the other 2 BR GS got snatched up, too.  They are going fast.  Super great price, IMO.  They gave us a casino discount, resident discount, and balcony discount.  There was a military discount too but it was the same as the resident discount so we just took the resident so we don't have to worry about bringing a DD214 to the port.

Really excited about this one !!

Royal appropriately priced these with what I call "San Juan pricing". San Juan pricing is lower than "Florida" pricing because they take into account the adde airfare.

But even with that, the suite price per night for that 14 nighter is very, very low.  Good for you!

As a teacher you are far too important to retire ... it is one of the professions that I respect the most.

I, however, will return to my original suggestion ... I will quit my job and book Grandeur out of Bridgetown.  I am nowhere near essential.

Search for my soulmate and I on a Grandeur Cruise.  We will be the ones monopolizing the Centrum "dancefloor" from 5:00PM to 8:00PM each evening.  If dancing is not allowed by FEB 2022, we may need to re-think the timing. ?

Can't wait ...

Kinda off the subject, but curious what everyone thinks.  Could this be Royal's way of hedging its bet on the CDC not allowing cruises in the future?

Like we saw with Empress when they thought outside of the box and built routes beyond the cookie cutter mainstream this is sort of the same.  A lot of destinations not normally reached by Royal's fleet so something different to garner attention.

I don't think this is in anyway related to the CDC.  Hedging one small ship doesn't really accomplish anything in terms of bypassing the CDC.  The target audience will result in a lot of Americans on board but some Brits as well given the easy flights to the former British territory.  The Concorde used to fly between London and Bridgetown and one remains in a museum at the airport there.  No doubt the homeport will appeal to some Brits as well.

Cool move.

I agree with the opportunity of looking "beyond the cookie cutter mainstream".  Bring them on ... the more the better.

Could everyone please book up all of these cruises before the end of the week.  Messages sent with dollars are better than messages sent with illegal body checks (sorry, I am overly excited about hockey starting up tonight).

Sure, if you could first ask them to lower the AUD price!

This happens ALL the time. I would love to know the reasoning behind it???

I understand taxes and fees are included in AUD price but it's still way off.

They may have taken down all Grandeur "sailings", but they can not take my dreams away. ?

This one will become my home page on my computer ... until they make good on an "implied promise" ?

Every night before I go to bed, dreams of Grandeur will dance in my head.

Look fabulous!   Although I do have a 14 day cruise in Dec. 2021, and also in February 2022.  So January date may be out for me.

Although there is speculation that the CDC is slow walking its guidance on how cruise lines should proceed with the simulated cruises I think home porting  Grandeur of the Seas in Barbados is simply Royal Caribbean expanding and offering passengers more options and more Caribbean islands.

I would love to book this cruise in December 2021 but I'm already booked on a 7 night Symphony of the Seas in October of 2021 and a 9 night Odyssey of the Seas in November 2021.

While you're right that one ship isnt going to save the company millions by any means, it's about hedging their bets.

RC has never sailed from Barbados before, nor even hinted at it.

It cannot be a coincidence that 2021 is the year when cruises would start there at the exact same time there is absolutely not traction from the CDC to get basic info to cruise lines to resume cruises.

They've had four ships stationed there for months.  Must have liked it ?

P&O has used Barbados as a homeport.  During the time the RC ships spent there some local authorities probably whispered sweet nothings in Captain Johnny's ear.

They didn't want Grandeur doing more of the same competing with so many in the RCI fleet for the Caribbean market.  Also sends a message to San Juan.  Checks a lot of boxes.

FWIW, Royal Caribbean claims you're right

Still, Royal Caribbean on Wednesday told TPG the CDC ban on cruising from U.S. ports had nothing to do with its decision to begin running some of its Caribbean cruises out of Barbados.

I do agree that Barbados and RC have a good relationship.  Michael Bayley and the Prime Minister of Barbados chair the same Caribbean tourism committee.

I could be totally wrong, but I just can't see this move as anything more than the same strategy the cruise line used in getting Quantum restarted in Singapore.

Interesting with Washington .... I'm assuming Dulles (IAD) .  No International flights out of DCA and I would assume it would say Baltimore if it was BWI

Think there's also a number of flights between PR and Barbados.  If it becomes difficult to find the direct, fly to PR for an overnight stay and and take jump flight to Barbados the next morning. (Works for a number of islands)

I am debating doing a lift and shift of my May 16th 6-nighter on Independence to this Dec sailing on Grandeur.

I have no faith the May cruises will go at this point but can't decide if I should wait for them to whack it, or just go ahead and move it now.

this Grandeur sailing is cheaper and its 7 nights, so I'd bag 28 cruise points as a solo traveler.  although probably need a hotel going down there and more expensive airfare too.  some neat destinations though and I've never sailed on Grandeur, either!
