Royal Caribbean Credit Card

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

My husband and I have been looking into the RC Credit Card. Our goal would be to use the points to put towards our drink packages.

I'd love to hear from all of you who have the card - do you like it? Don't like it? Feel it's worth it?

P.S. we're super responsible with our credit cards and have many for points/traveling etc. Don't feel like you need to warn me of the dangers of credit cards ?

Love RC and just looking for a way to use what we already pay for to get us some points towards those expensive drink packages!

Thanks!!

While we’ve come close to getting one a couple times, we couldn’t make the plunge due to the interest rate.

While we haven’t carried a balance through a billing cycle on our current card in at least a decade, it has a very, very low interest rate.

We’re both very frugal, so even though it’s irrational (based on our history of always paying it off as soon as we get home), we have a hard time getting  a credit card with a higher interest rate.

We use the Royal Caribbean Visa card and we love it.  I know that there are other cards that have a better payback, but b/c we use it exclusively for RC purchases and b/c the credit goes directly to your Sea Pass account, we use it a lot.  I pay for all of my cruises and all cruise planner purchases with the card as well as use it for all onboard purchases (casino, primarily).  It works well for us.  Any Royal Caribbean purchase earns double points.

The interest rate is awful so as long as you do not carry a balance, you're fine.  There is no annual fee.

Quite simply, the rewards amount to one cent per dollar spent (1%) unless (as earlier stated) the expenditures are with Royal Caribbean.  Then the payout is roughly 2%.  The notable payout exception is one of the 50,000 point awards: "3 or 4 night sailing for two (minimum available oceanview stateroom).  Value of cruise fare for two may not exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000 USD value)."  If all monies were spent on Royal Caribbean and the full $1,000 value was used for the stateroom, payout approaches 4%. In this case, you would be spending $25,000 with Royal Caribbean for a $1,000 reward.  In our experience, some of the RCL sales are not honored when redeeming this award.  Drink packages have not been specifically offered, but onboard credit is offered, with the 1% or 2% return.

We have been using the RC credit card for several years now. We use the OBC option and it has paid for a lot of shore excursions and beverage packages. The extra OBC also gives us more freedom to purchase some things onboard that we may not of budgeted for.

If I didn't have the Costco branded VISA card, I'd definitely carry a RCL cc in my back pocket. ?

everything Waaaytooo said are the advantages if you use the card, I still use mine for RC cruise purchases.

For me the kicker to get it was the bonus points offered at application with a spend in 1st 3 months (I timed the application and used it to pay off a couple of cruises) fetched something like $100 or $150 on board sign&sail credit.

Also remember that if not used in something like 2-3 years (they have a chart on the web site) your points exprire. They don't last forever.

I did it for the same.  You get enough points for $100 OBC or $100 cash back with ANY purchase within 90 days of opening.  Only reason I signed up for the card was to get the bonus.  I get a better kickback on other cards that I have for travel spending.  No annual fee so might as well keep it.  Another feature I liked was that it doesn't have any surcharge for international spending which a lot of other cards do.  Sometimes they do have special cardholder only events on special cruises like the Presidents Cruise.

I got the RC Credit Card.   I spent $1K and received $100 SBC.

Then I purchased the drink package for $700(on sale), and received a $200 credit on the credit card.  So the drink packaged ended up costing $500 for two for a week.

Find this option.  Usually just before you pay for your booking. (when you spend more than 1K in 3 months)

We just got the Royal Caribbean Visa card.  Just received $100 SBC and a $200 Credit Card Credit.

Like you, we'll be using the card the exact same way. ?
