Phillip Diamond Plus
Does anyone know what Diamond Plus Internet discounts are loaded on the sea pass card according to length of cruise? I may be going on 4 and 5 day back to back cruises. I somehow can't even remember what it was for a 7 and longer day cruises. Just dreaming and hopefully planning on when I may cruise again!!! twangster
Typical onboard letter: Two free consecutive days of 1 device Surf OR $22.99 off a plan onboard (can't be used in the cruise planner before boarding). However I think the $22.99 was a typo. It's always been $45.98 on board for D+ since a single day of Surf is $22.99 on board. The Diamond letter from this sailing also says $22.99 which is correct for Diamond. Matt
twangster
Found another D+ letter where it shows the $45.98 discount for D+ so ignore the letter above. Matt

Phillip Diamond Plus
Thank you so much! But there is probably a smaller discount given on 4 or 5 day cruises. Right?

But there is probably a smaller discount given on 4 or 5 day cruises. Right? Nope. Same discount. To save more money I use a day 2 strategy. The following is only for D+ members. If you can use your cell phone on day one since the ship is in port until 5pm to 6pm typically and you buy the internet on the morning of day 2 it is "free" on a 3 night cruise or ~$20 for a 4 night cruise (for D+ members). Buying a full voyage Voom plan on day one costs more since it's prorated and gets cheaper as the cruise progresses. I built a spreadsheet that compares cruise planner purchases versus on board. Here is a comparison if the cruise planner price for Surf and Stream is $11.99 per day and the onboard daily rate for Surf and Stream is $21.99, a typical rate prior to the shutdown. If you can wait until day 2 to buy Voom, then for a D+ it's cheapest to buy on board using the D+ discount for cruises 6 nights or shorter. If you must have Voom on day 1 then for a 3 or 4 night cruise it's cheapest to buy it on board. For cruises longer than 6 nights it's always cheapest to buy it ahead of time. That is all assuming a cruise planner advance price of $11.99 per day. Since the photo quality will probably make that hard to read here is the important part blown up larger: The cruise planner doesn't always have it for $11.99 so the math changes as the cruise planner planner prices goes up. For example, when it's $14.99 in the cruise planner: At $14.99 in the cruise planner it's best to buy it on board on day 2 for anything 9 nights or shorter but if you must have Voom on day 1 then it's cheapest to buy it on board for anything 6 nights or shorter. Once you reach 10 nights it's always cheapest to buy it in advance in the cruise planner. But again this is assuming the cruise planner price is $14.99 per day. In some cases it's only a few dollars but a few dollars is always better in my pocket. Phillip Diamond Plus
Thank you Twangster! What great research! I really appreciate it! I used to be do a lot of research work when I was a Graduate Assistant many years ago! So I am impressed! I am bookmarking your page for future reference. I now plan to use your 2nd day strategy when purchasing internet! twangster and WAAAYTOOO
twangster
If adopting the day 2 savings approach be aware that some ships have offered a day 1 special that provides a free day if you purchase it on board on day 1 only. I've only seen this a few times but keep an eye out for it because it provides the same savings that waiting for day 2 would bring. Adventure was the ship that offered it. tonyfsu21
Reviving this thread. Does anyone know if this D+ discount is automatically applied to sail & sign account or if you need to go to guest services to get the discount? Also, if you pre book Voom through the planner pre cruise can you still get the credit once onboard?
Pattycruise
D+ is 2 separate 24 hour “passes” If you click on the first one at 6pm to activate it it will be good until 6pm the next night. You can then activate your other 24 hour pass at a time of your choosing. mind you, there is an “upgrade” that does show, so for a few dollars more you could have the “stream feature”-if you didn’t want it be sure to switch to the regular free 24 hour pass. if you prepurchase internet in your name you’ll have to go to the VOOM desk to activate your 24 hour pass for another device. When that 24 hour pass is over and you want to use the next 24 hour pass you have to go back to the Voom desk for them to activate it. This was based on my June experience on Oasis. I had an internet package and hubby did not. He used up his 2 24 hour periods and then VOOM person “gave him” mine each time. It is a pain because the VOOM desk is only open a few hours in the morning and then again in the evening, so I had him set a reminder on his phone so we wouldn’t miss the person. just reread the question….I do believe you have the option to apply your 2 days towards the weeklong package onboard in the app instead of using the 24 hour pass. If it is not an option in the app you’d have to wait on the VOOM desk line. It has been my experience that VOOM is cheaper to purchase pre cruise than using the discount onboard. also, note, if you are Prime in the casino you get 30% off the internet. So if you use your 24 hour passes first you can purchase the remainder of the days, whenever you choose to, for a 30% discount, this was done at the VOOM desk by showing the prime designation on the seapass card snd asking for the discount. tonyfsu21

After you enter your details which includes cabin number it knows your CAS level and offers the discount as you purchase a plan. Very rarely it won't have my CAS discount so once in 20 or 30 cruises I have to visit the Voom specialist to get them to apply it to my account.
