JimnKathy
Disappointing, yet not surprising. Knowing that vaccines are on the way and test cruises are beginning this past week, it really looks like sailing could begin late Spring or early Summer. SPS
I knew this was coming in regards to our January 9-Night, but it doesn’t make it any less disappointing. Now the question is what replacement cruise to book and for when/where? I don’t want to keep rebooking or continually L&S like so many have had to keep doing. ehw51
MuttMutt
Ok for those impacted by the recent sailings being canceled you can get a 125% onboard credit but you have to make the request by December 16th. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/until-when-can-i-request-the-onboard-cruise-credit is the information and https://rcgpcpoffer.questionpro.com/ is the link to make the onboard credit request. Jill
So is it safe to assume that test sailings are the month of December? Per the conditional sail order RC has to give 60 days notice to the CDC after test sailings before they can take paying passengers.

It all depends on scheduling and optimism. L&S puts it into next year plus or minus a month or two excluding holiday sailings. That could get you a better deal than taking the credit. But until the vaccine is around and successful it's possible that cruises longer than 7 days will be canceled. The 125% credit can be used on any sailing so if another option looks better that may be good. I am planning to go this route and then put a few more bucks down, if it's canceled again I get another credit that I can use for another sailing but after that it gets a little dicey. You can only use the 125% FCC per person from my understanding which means 2 people traveling you get to use 2 FCC's but end up with a third and you have to push it to another point but have a little over a year to do so in most cases so still not awful. Having children should theoretically add the number of credits you can use per sailing but don't quote me on that as the FAQ mentions something about per stateroom while other stuff said per person. A full refund is just cash, if you need a little extra and don't want to try and wait out the suspension this is the way to go. ehw51

Per the conditional sail order RC has to give 60 days notice to the CDC after test sailings before they can take paying passengers. It's possible but honestly the logistics involved means they should be notifying people more than 2 weeks before so they can make plans to show up. Realistically I would say at least 45 days before so that people have a few days to accept and if more people are needed the invite can be issued to others and they still have time to make plans. Some people will need flights, others will need to deal with their own home logistics like pets and kids, and then there are the rooms for people traveling more than a few hours to port. They may also be playing the long game where they are waiting for a widespread vaccine so the hoops to jump through in getting started are a WHOLE lot bigger. And currently successfully completing the CDC's program doesn't mean they get to sail it means they can petition to sail. Until you see people saying they got an invite for a date I wouldn't start counting the days to start. You can only speculate and go from there. I figure things will be back to normal by this time next year but cruising will probably start late spring or early summer. And by back to normal I mean all ships operating not that everything will be the same as this time last year.
CJS2766
I wonder if the same policy will apply if you are able to do a Lift & Shift. I was supposed to go last month and when it was cancelled, I did a L&S for next October. When I did that, I was informed that I was not eligible for the 125% onboard credit. Was bummed about that, but it is what it is. I hope that by next Oct, we are back to somewhat normal cruising. My wife is slowly starting to turn against ever cruising again. ehw51
ctwilliams
This will be my fifth cancelled cruise and my first in 2021. My issue is that I have let RCC keep my money and issue FCC because I am fortunate enough to be in a position to do so and am trying to do my part to keep them afloat. What I can not do is take a bunch of cruises in 2021 whenever they do actually start back. So they are going to have to either extend the deadline in which a FCC must be used (by a significant number of months) or I am going to end up getting refunds for all those cancelled cruises in 2020. They only have a few weeks left to announce whether they will or not. Seems like a way to loose a LOT of money quickly. I am sure I am not the only one with this issue. ehw51, TriToCruise, Jill and 1 other

WAAAYTOOO
I had B2B Symphony cruises in Feb. One was a casino comp and the other was a regular priced cruise. @michelleis going to L&S the regular priced cruise to butt up against one I already have in Feb 2022 to give us a new B2B. I called on the casino comp and they would not move it (price protect) so I just cancelled it for a cash refund. It's so weird with the casino comps. Sometimes they will allow you to move them forward and sometimes they won't. Today they wouldn't. I should have known that they were never going to let me cruise in a JS for $258 PP on Symphony ! It seems so short-sighted to me though... it seems that they would rather have me move my casino comp forward and keep my money than to deny me that opportunity and have to refund everything. Whatever. Too bad that I lost that great casino deal...there was $150 free play on that one, too ! Dang... PPPJJ-GCVAB and ehw51

Jill
If they’re going to extend FCC date (past April of 2022) I hope they do it soon. If my late May symphony gets cancelled, that only leaves my October Odyssey to apply my FCC to and the FCC is more than the Odyssey price. I do have a May 2022 Alaska but right now, that’s beyond the FCC sail by date. Sharla
Andy & Sheryl Unwin
Just got a present in my inbox. Dear Guest, We hope that this email finds you healthy and safe. As you know, the current situation has been, and still is, quite fluid. The CDC’s Conditional Sailing Order is a positive step for the cruising industry, and we are anxious to welcome guests back onboard. We recently extended our global suspension through December 31st, 2020, excluding sailings onboard Quantum of the Seas, to ensure we have ample time to focus on our healthy return to service initiatives. However, in order to allow additional time for our preparation, we’ve decided to further extend our global suspension through February 28th, 2021 for most of our fleet, along with our Australian season through April 30th, 2021. While we are excluding our newly deployed Singapore sailings and select sailings onboard Spectrum of the Seas from this suspension, our plan is to resume our broader global operations on March 1st, 2021. As a result, your sailing will unfortunately be cancelled. We’re terribly sorry for the impact to your vacation. Despite the current circumstances, our primary goal continues to be a seamless and healthy return to service. We’re hyper-focused on welcoming you back! We’ve teamed up with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. and have assembled the “Healthy Sail Panel” - a multifaceted team of globally recognized experts. The panel will work alongside our new Public Health & Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Calvin Johnson, and with their help, our vision is to pioneer innovative ways to guide the cruise industry’s way forward in response to the pandemic. It goes without saying, we’re all in this together. While we all wish we were cruising, we do have some options for you, including an option that has been very well received by our guests, as it provides a little something extra to use once we all start cruising again! Here are your options: 1. 125% Future Cruise Credit: We’re providing you with a 125% Future Cruise Credit to book a new cruise by April 30th, 2022. This amount is based on your total cruise fare paid, and we’re giving you a little extra, knowing that this is such a unique circumstance. Your certificate can be used on any Royal Caribbean International sailing that departs on or before April 30th, 2022. We’ll automatically send your Future Cruise Credit via email by January 15th, 2021, so there’s nothing for you to do! Taxes & fees and any RoyalUp upgrades will be automatically refunded. Current refund processing is around 45 days. We are working as quickly as possible, and we appreciate your patience. Please note: If you opted into the Cruise with Confidence 100% Future Cruise Credit, this offer does not apply. And, if you previously used a Future Cruise Credit (including previous Global Suspension FCCs), you’ll receive a new Future Cruise Credit. This will be for 125% of any new monies paid on this sailing, plus the value of your original credit at 100% of its value, with an expiration and sail by date of April 30, 2022. If you were already impacted by a sailing that was previously cancelled due to a global suspension and paid additional monies on a new booking within this extended suspension period, you are still able to opt in to refund one or both cancelled bookings via the process below. 2. Lift and Shift: If you prefer to move your existing booking to a sailing next year - we’re happy to move you! We will price protect the original pricing and/or promotion on the same itinerary, length, product, and stateroom category as your original sailing within 4 weeks (before or after) of the original sail date the following year. For example, if you are moving from a January 1st, 2021 sailing, you can move to a sailing that is the same itinerary, length, product, and stateroom category, and the sail date between December 1st, 2021 - February 1st, 2022. Please know, price protection covers your cruise fare/promotion on an applicable sailing only and excludes taxes and fees, gratuities, and other non-cruise fare items, as these may change. You must decide to move to a new sailing by December 16th, 2020. If not, we will automatically issue you a Future Cruise Credit. Complimentary Casino offers are not eligible for Lift & Shift. 3. 100% Refund: Or, if you prefer a full refund, which is a lower value than the future cruise credit offer above, we’re happy to process this for you. Given how fluid this situation is, and the opportunity to use the extra credit being offered, you have until March 31st, 2021 to request a refund and deactivate your certificate. Please contact us to start the refund process, forfeiting the higher value of your 125% Future Cruise Credit. To avoid waiting on the phone to cancel, click here and we will get the refund process started for you. Note: Please know, once we receive your refund request, we unfortunately won’t be able to accept an FCC request if you change your mind. We’ll then deactivate your Future Cruise Credit and process your refund to your original form(s) of payment, which will include any non-refundable deposits. You can expect to receive your refund 45 days after you submit your refund request. Please note: If you used a Cruise with Confidence certificate on this sailing, and you request a refund instead, we’ll refund any NEW funds paid above the certificate amount, and we’ll reinstate your original Cruise with Confidence certificate. And, a special option for those that also purchased Cruise Planner Items… You can opt-in to receive an Onboard Credit in the value of 125% of the total Cruise Planner purchases on your reservation. Click here by December 16th, 2020 to request your higher value credit, and we’ll email you your credit by January 15th, 2021. If we don’t hear from you on or before December 16th, 2020, your Cruise Planner purchases will be automatically refunded. You’ll receive your refund within 45 days of your booking’s cancellation. We are working as quickly as possible and appreciate your patience during these unprecedented times. Also, if you opt for a cruise fare refund or for Lift and Shift, you are not be eligible for this Cruise Planner Onboard Credit offer. Questions about how the Cruise Planner credit works? Click here for more details. Guests with air or hotel booked… Refundable air or hotel accommodations purchased through Royal Caribbean will be automatically refunded to you within 45 days after we process the cancellation. Pooch
My final payment for our March 20, 2021 7 day out of Tampa is due 12/13. I do not want to float RCCL a $4700 interest free loan so I need to make a decision before then. Our first port is also scheduled to be Key West so that's out and I have not been notified of its replacement yet. We've already done a L & S to Harmony in March 2022. Gears
They need more time. Understandable. So... Each ship must conduct successful test cruise(s) Each ship must apply for and receive 'conditional authorization', this application will take --> at least <-- 60 days (aka minimum) If a test cruise embarked by -- lets say December 13th (which could theoretically happen...I guess) They are not going to run test sailings on all ships day 1, they will work out the kinks on one or two and then expand what works to other ships They have to do this for how many (?) ships leaving US ports If all goes well on a test cruise and everything else lines up perfectly... ...then, and only then, a March 1st sailing could take place...with all passengers there and ready to go. A couple of bumps and kinks to work out, process re-working, new test cruises and who knows what with the CDC...can be expected. While miracles do occasionally happen, I think expecting March 1st embarkations out of the US is now unrealistic given the time they need to meet the CDC requirements. Barring some sort of surprise intervention, I think this is just 'this round' of cancellations. If all goes as can reasonably be expected, it will be only a couple of ships to start and maybe May 1st. A few extra glitches and it will be June/July. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ After thinking a little more -- with the vaccines on the horizon...why bother going through the massive expense and anguish of trying to meet the CDC rules...risking a case or two and shutting down? Why not just wait a few months more and require all crew and passengers to have proof of vaccination? Problem solved (so to speak), carry on as they were and they can probably tell the CDC where to stick their list.

When COVID announced I was one of the first to cancel in March. So got a FCC for family of four. never able to get 125% credit etc. as I understand it I have to cruise before december 2021. Correct? we have nothing booked as being from Canada we have no idea on vaccines, quarantine procedures, etc. At this point I feel our money will be lost. As time we get straightened out nothing will be left. does the forum think that date will be pushed to 2022?

MuttMutt
I agree they are being given a whole lot more hoops and conditions to deal with. Some of it is due to the outbreaks that have happened but when I was on Liberty of the Seas in October 2019 I didn't see that as being a problem. Staff standing at the entrance to the area's with hand sanitizer and multiple sanitizer stations around the entrance of eating area's. And from what I have seen about their recent run in Singapore they are doing things pretty well. I am not a fan of the "contact tracing" since the bubble size is unknown and honestly if you play 7 degrees of separation on a ship with the people onboard as well as the crew you will probably be within range of most everyone at some point. Anyway I am currently in the process of trying to get my credit applied to a sailing in October 2021. Got a quote already which is REALLY good. Sadly they can't expedite issuing the credit but I do have the amount they are going to issue which is going to cover a large portion of the switch from the 5 to 7 night run on a larger ship and was able to make it so the travel agent can handle anything that is happening. Going to figure a few things out from there but hopefully they can do a little bit of magic on their end and have me setup soon. jticarruthers

We have a Grandeur March 18, 2021 (which we originally scheduled to be between our July 2020 (cancelled) Adventure cruise) and our hopefully still to happen Jan 2022 Anthem cruise. Grandeur has been paid for by the FCC gotten from our cancelled cruise, with some leftover for Anthem. I'm wondering if I should plan maybe an August 2021 cruise instead for the what is likely inevitable cancellation of this March cruise. Ironically, I am probably in the first wave of vaccine recipients -- I am a hospital worker (maybe 1B, as I work on a nursing unit, but do not have direct patient contact. I do, however, have several chronic medical conditions). DH is < 60, but has chronic medical conditions. DD's are 24 & 30 -- but both have autoimmune diseases (1 celiac, 1 crohn's) which make them more likely to have complications if they get the virus, and the 30 year old takes a medication that can compromise the immune system as well, so I'm not sure if they will qualify for the 2nd phase of distribution or have to wait til later. monctonguy
Jan/Feb cancelled....March/April will be the start of test cruises and by May/June right in line with my predictions all along we should be getting back to some cruising...albeit with some restrictions and problems for the first few months yet. I wouldn't feel sure or confident of booking a cruise that sails before Sept/Oct to be really sure. cruisellama
michelle
On 12/2/2020 at 2:53 PM, Andy & Sheryl Unwin said: Just got a present in my inbox. If you booked non-refundable air through Royal Caribbean or booked on your own, please contact the service provider directly for your options with them.
