Double Crown & Anchor points on ALL 2021 sailings. . .

Was this the morning that the offer was first announce.  They were very confused that first day, that is putting it mildly.  Royal kept changing their terms and conditions all day long.  I am pretty sure that by the end of day, what they told you in the screen shot does not apply.  You can still receive the double points even with the C&A discount.  But we'll see if @Matt or @Sharla or @michelle can confirm.

This is my first post after signing up, love the blog and the podcast!

I had booked a cruise onboard in 2019 for October 2020. Obviously this was cancelled and i have since lifted and shifted this to October 2021. When i saw the double points offer i contacted RCL, via there FB page, and they confirmed my cruise qualified for double points!  I asked what the criteria was to "qualify" and they mentioned something about a CAS discount not having been applied but it didn't make much sense to me (see screenshot). My advice would be to simply contact them on FB and provide them your reservation number and they can tell you if you qualify or not.

I think most cruises will qualify at this point, no matter the discount. You're correct, @Lovetocruise2002, because they kept changing things so often the first couple of days no one was sure. But David I think yours will qualify!

Did the Double C & A points promotion expire last night or is it good through the end of the year?

And it's definitely good through the end of the year.

From the terms and conditions: "Loyalty 2X Points applies to new bookings made on 10/19 – 12/31/20"

I really want to book another cruise and get the double points which would get us to Diamond status!!....Just need to have some confidence that cruising is going to start back up and that the 14 day quarantine rule will be reduced or removed in the near future!

Its a great offer with the points.....wonder what would happen if 2021 is a wash for cruising and these cruises get pushed into 2022...would double points follow and apply with a Lift & Shift type thing.....hmmm

If 2021 is a wash and cruises are pushed to 2022, I don't think there will be much of a cruise industry left. So the points will be worthless.

Why not book a refundable then?  That's what we did to squeeze another one in.

refundable rates are alot higher..last cruise I got a quote on it was close to 50% more.....so its a conundrum to be honest..

My last cruise I just booked..I couldn't even figure out on the Royal site how to get a refundable rate for my booking...

Price plays a big part in our bookings, so we gamble with our deposit.

Other than our first cruise, we’ve booked at Next Cruise every time to get $100 per person non-refundable deposit (then transferred the booking to our agent).

If my wife had the personal time to spare, we’d  take a chance on an early 2021 short cruise. Prices seem good.

Funny you mentioned that.  It just happened to us too.  As I mentioned, we squeezed in one more short Navigator sailing after they announced the Loyalty 2x promo.  For some reason, it would not let me access the refundable rate for a category VP.  I followed the steps and entered all my info, then also did the same for Hubby.  When I tried to click "next", it would not let me to the next screen to choose refundable.  I tried several times throughout the day, same dead end.  In the end, I just messaged my TA and she was able to access it.

For this particular sailing, refundable was just over $200 more.  I figured that breaks even because if I booked non-refundable and cancelled, I would lose $200 for the two of us.  As I get closer to it (not until next November), I might move it to non-refundable.  Most suites are automatically non-refundable, but when there is a category VP, I sometimes will play this game.  I don't always use this strategy and I get what you are saying.  Almost double is not worth it, IMO.

What Navigator cruise? Might need a short one to push us into Diamond status.

It's only a 3 nighter but I can only take 2 days off work so it is what it is lol.

Well figures, that’s the weekend that my daughter has a cheerleading competition, and Heather coaches the team. I mentioned going solo and was able to duck just in time to dodge the pan thrown at my head.

We have 100 night booked in 2021, all in suites.  Not sure how the “C&A discount” clause is going to affect them.  We rarely use the C&A discount anyway.  Some random promo discount usually pushes the C&A Discount out. Many of these bookings are casino comps so no C&A discount was applied.   SO...if all of them Sail and are awarded an extra point, we would accumulate 300 points in 2021.  We currently need 190 points to make Pinnacle. It’s looking good !

It's a long slog to that level - if only we hadn't  lost 2020, you'd probably be there already and enjoying the perks in '21

So here's a thought / question I have on this promotion...

While I hope to all that is holy and not that cruising picks up again by fall 2021, I have to remember that we kept saying the same thing about fall 2020...so I'm very cautious and probably wouldn't have booked anything if not for the promotion.

That said...if the cruise is cancelled...do you think the double points promotion will be shifted to whatever cruise I move it to?

No one was expecting this promo so it's anyone's guess.  If 2021 turns into a flop for most cruises it's conceivable they could extend it into 2022.  If 2021 is mostly successful I don't think they will.

The purpose of this promo was to increase bookings which it appears it may be successful in doing.  With that goal accomplished it's unclear if they'll be motivated to extend the promo.  On the other hand at this time next year if they still desire more bookings they may offer it again.

It all depends how this plays out.  The virus isn't over and there is no vaccine even in some limited capacity so I'm not sure anyone can safely predict what 2021 looks like.

Sister line Celebrity did not include existing bookings in their double points promo so Royal could offer something like that going into 2022.

If 2021 is a bust - maybe no cruising until 3rd or 4th quarter of '21, the 2x points really isn't going to be realized by many people.  I get that sinking feeling just another promotion to keep those deposits coming in.

Given that the Celebrity version of the program applies to new bookings only but not interior or oceanview and no solo cruisers I'd say it is a very targeted promotion to drive new bookings of higher margin cabins only.

Very few promotions from any company during a pandemic are just to be nice.  Hilton, Southwest, Delta, Hertz and more all have promotions relative to the loyalty programs.  I think all of them are looking to capitalize on new business from loyalty members.

I really hope I'm interpreting this promo correctly.

Normally, 7 nights solo in a suite is:

7 base points

7 points for being in a suite

7 points for being solo

---

= 21 points

---

So, 42 points with this promo?  If so, holy smokes.  I've got 2 cruises lined-up that would qualify (assuming mid-to-late 2021 isn't still tanked).

I was reading Mr. Fain's comments regarding the very controlled restart in early '21 which I interpret that if given the CDC green light, we'll see mainly "shorty" and limited excursion cruises for about a quarter.   He's messaging what what's necessary, but if we're still in a "test and see" mode for an entire 1st quarter, I'm wondering how industry enthusiasm will be sustained for continued financial viability.  More contraction on the way?

That is completely incorrect   A 7 night cruise is normally 1point per night if not cruising solo in a regular room which would be 7points, solo in a regular room is 2points per night which would be 14points, solo in a suite would be 3points per night which would be 21points.
D
ouble points on a 7Nights cruise would be 14points for non solo in regular room which is 2points per night, 28points for solo in regular room which would be 4points per night, solo in a suite would be 42points which is 6points per night.

According to what @Matt wrote about this topic of double points, an example of this would be:

7nightsx1point per night=7points (notsolo in regular room)

7nightsx2points per night=14points (solo in regular room points)

7nightsx4points per night =28points (solo in regular room & non solo in suites

7nightsx6points per night =42points (solo in suites)

i hope I’m correct because I have 2 cruise lines up next year that would definitely qualify; 1 is in a regular room & the other is in a suite.

That's fair...the not knowing makes pre-planning a bummer...

Just playing along at home......does a 7 night JS count for 21 or 28 points?

With the loyalty promo, if you are sailing solo, 7 nights in a JS is 42 points. Two or more in the cabin, 28 points.

Under normal circumstances, solo in a JS for 7 nights is 21 points. Double in the cabin or more is 14 points.
