Brilliance Thoughts

Trying to stay in the positive mindset, we are eagerly looking forward to the BOTS offerings (tomorrow) departing Tampa Fl Summer 2021. If and probably when our November 2020 Mariner sailing is cancelled, (still holding out some hope and positive juju)  we will have FCC that needs to be applied or we will lose it. H E double hockey sticks NO WAY!! As I stated previously we will most likely NEVER do FCC again as even the extra 25% does not make the inconvenience worth it for us and our sailing parameters. I digress.... we have 3 sailings in 2021 already with FCC and this impending maybe cancelation allows me to book an additional sailing...a summer 2021 Tampa sailing which is a positive for us as *RCCL does not offer summer sailings from here previously.

Anyway, my research is limited so I pose my question to my RCCL blog friends, very nearly the same price would you do 2 connecting JS or a 2 bedroom grand? Stay with me here, kinda cheating but if my daughter and I are in one cabin and my hubby in another by himself he receives more C & A points, correct, 3 per night? Thus he is attributed additional points that I can then have assigned to me because we are a couple?

Is it true he gets 3 points a night in the JS if he is staying by himself? Then upon conclusion I am also matched? @twangster@WAAAYTOOO Thoughts? We don't really imbibe so the grand suite concierge lounge benefit is pretty moot. Thanks for your input!

I will test, I will drive to the port, I will test again, I want to sail!

@Lovetocruise2002... Yes, you are correct! The two juniors are cheaper by about $100.00. We are platinum on DCL and I really wanted to be Diamond by early 2022 until this happened, ugh! I am waiting to achieve Diamond before we go over and try Celebrity. I set a goal and go for it! LOL!!! (to my hubby's shagrin Mawaaa) Thanks for your feedback, here's thinking positive the sailings are released tomorrow as promised. Take great care!!

Cheaper and extra points?! Win! I would book the two juniors then. Unless the view matters. I was looking hard at those two bedroom OS on radiance class ships today. Beautiful, unobstructed aft views. ?

I was moved to Indy as you know for next July, and after some thought, I definitely don’t want to sail her again so soon. That’s why I am excited to see what the new Brilliance itineraries bring. It’s either that or I am booking Alaska. Lol

I agree with Sabrina.  If the Suites Lounge is not something that matters to you, then I would definitely do the 2 JS for the extra points and the savings.  GS are very nice but I think you will have WAAAY more room in the 2 JS plus 2 bathrooms.  Your daughter will think she's really SOMEbody having a JS to herself !  It's a shame that you are not drinkers.  Since you would be staying in separate rooms, one of you would be able to get a drinks package without both adults having to buy it.

I know some people that really take the points earning to the next level.

They put the wife in a JS by herself and hubby is added as a 3rd person in a friend's balcony cabin for peanuts.  Once on board they get an extra key at guest services and hubby doesn't stay with their friends.

OR...

Since they are over 340 points they get reduced single supplement.  Sometimes they put the wife in a JS solo and the husband in the cheapest whatever cabin solo.  They call the other interior cabin their "luggage cabin" where they throw their suitcases while they stay in the suite.

Since the wife is a casino player and they get Florida rates this approach allows them to rocket up through the points for very little out of pocket in terms of cruise fare.

So yes, solo in a junior suite does net 3x points.  It doesn't always get multiplied properly when the points post but a simple phone call has always fixed that in minutes.

Yes, he gets the extra points (3 per night if solo in a JS) but technically, no, you don't also get those those points assigned to you.  You keep the actual points you've earned individually, but as a couple, you get all the benefits of whoever has the most points.  (Of course, this only makes a difference when your points would normally put you at different C&A levels).  The reason I point this out is because once one of you has more points, that person has to always be the person to earn the extra points or you negate the benefit.  Check out the math:

Neesa & husband start at Gold with 10 pts each.  They take a 7 night cruise where Neesa earns 14 points (24 total) and husband earns 21 points (31 total).  Now husband is Platinum and Neesa also gets Platinum benefits on the next cruise.

If they take another 7 night cruise but reverse roles: Neesa earns 21 points (45 total) and husband earns 14 points (45 total).  You're back to even and both Platinum.

If they take another 7 night cruise but keep same roles: Neesa earns 14 points (38 total) and husband earns 21 points (52 total).  Now, husband is only 3 points from Emerald status which would make Neesa happier!

@Atlantix2000, Wow that was amazing. Thanks so much for the break down, the crazy part is the cabin situation is due to bathrooms!

With a teenage daughter sometimes a lovely relaxing cruise can turn a bit stressful. We find we are so much more relaxed when she has her own space. 2 bathrooms.....priceless!

And this is MY fault, it was me who said hey try some of this mascara love, it will bring out your eyes, big dummy I am.

I appreciate your eagerness to sail Brilliance but has anyone told you there is no CK on Brilliance?

Yes lol.  I'm actually really excited to try the hot rocks at Izumi.

If all goes well in 2021, I should have plenty of CK time.  I can take a break for Brilliance.  ?

OBTW, where are you going (what’s the itinerary) ?

I am actually really excited about it! Ports I have either never been to, or ports that I have not visited in over a decade.

Departs from Tampa (as you already know). We have never left from Tampa before so that’s a first. And it goes to Key West (never been), Belize & Grand Cayman (last visited both in 2003), and Cozumel (that is the only familiar port for us).

Now I just need it to happen! This is our anniversary cruise too so fingers crossed we don’t lose another anniversary cruise like we did this year.

Those sound great - I've never been to any of those ports (including Tampa).

Nice itinerary!  Cruises are such a great way to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other special celebrations.  That’s how we got started cruising and we have since celebrated our 50th’s, 25th anniversary and upcoming 30th in 2021. Sounds like a great anniversary trip! ??
