ICON CLASS UPDATE

For the Sky Class or better Suite Snobs...

One thing I'm puzzled about. Where is/would the Suite Lounge go. I can't find it anywhere on the deck plans and don't see any empty blue space for it. Only thought is a grey area on 16 or 17. Don't think they carve out an area for Coastal Kitchen. I get the impression that decks 18 and 19 area all open or covered, nothing fully inside.

I wonder if if's part of Coastal Kitchen again

A few initial nit pick negatives: Taller does not excite me. Seems you just take more ports out of the equation. No chance you are getting that class into Bayonne now.

Longest Ship yet and still only two spots for elevators? You have to spread that load out. Come on Royal!

No mention of single cabins? I would have hoped that Quantum ships would have shown them the viability of this option. They sell out nearly instantly. Opportunity missed again and just pushing some of us to try NCL sooner.

Good points: Glad they still have a music hall. Aqua dome looks sick. Windjammer looks big. Casino looks big. Lots of unmarked spots still, so i am hoping for some new dining concepts. Big plus IMO, unless I missed it, NO Johhny Rockets! Hooray.

They got the big splashy stuff out of the way as expected. But I want more details about the little things, which I am sure will come. I am pretty excited, but This ship might not be for someone like myself. It really hammers "Family" harder than any previous class for sure.

PS - Any idea on "To Dry For"? I'd love a passenger self serve laundry, but I have a feeling that's not it.

My guess, since it's up by the spa/salon is a "blow dry bar" for hair blowouts. Like what Virgin has.

I will say  I don't quite get the point of having a whole seperate venue for blowouts but maybe it's best for staffing so people who just want the blowout aren't taking up seats and space at sink chairs.

@Templecruiser I think they go by averages and the average US family size according to the last census is 3.1 persons.

Other thought is branding. Some people don't necessarily associate "Spa" with haircare services.

What amazes me about Icon is, they have been able to have so much water features and pools  added to the upper decks than ever before. I remember reading, that for many ships, this is a tough balancing act in order to not compromise on stability. Was this not also the reason that the Vue Bar was added to Wonder of the Seas instead of an extra whirlpool ?

This ship was built for someone like me who feels the ship is as important/more important that itinerary. This ship is the destination baby!! As someone mentioned above, you could literally do a cruise to nowhere on Icon and never run out of things to do (or drink). It really is like a sea based theme park. I know some won't like this, but that's what radiance and vision class are for. I like big ships and I cannot lie!!

Exactly my reason Icon doesn't peak our interest.  Our kids are grown and have families of their own.  If we want to enjoy a theme park we will go to one.  We will stick to the smaller RC ships until they are retired and are giving older Celebrity ships a look.

I don’t get that they call these family oriented. All the suites except star class only hold 4 in a room. There are many 5 in a family. So where does that leave them?

Connecting rooms?  I come from a family of 7 and raised 3 kids so I know what you mean that if a family is greater than 4, we lose.

I'm super excited about so many things about this ship - but I think they missed on what families that travel in suites/prefer sky class want! Only the surfside family suites have separate sleeping areas for kids and none of them are ocean view. Why would I pay suite prices and not even get an ocean view? Couldn't they at least make a few of the sky class suites connecting?? Frustrating that there are so few suite options for parents that don't want to sleep on top of their kids...

I had the same thought but in the concept drawings the stairs seem stationary so then I thought maybe it's just that big?

(because work is more boring than dissecting the whole video and ship so far) I think we got the pearl thing figured out.

Deck 8 at central park (looks like it's a covered area where maybe one could view whatever show is going on there?

Decks 6 and 7 are open and the main body of the pearl takes up both:

In my opinion, I think the pearl will go up and down like rising tide bar from deck 5 to 8 because from the ship map it show the pearl on all deck 5 to 8.

Curious what part you think will rise? I want to say the stairs but...it would have to move slowly, like RT. But unlike RT there's no seating which would make it difficult or unusable for people who have a hard time standing for long periods.

If it does move quickly, then whatever will be going on inside will be short lived and then it's just a glorified elevator....

I also would like to think it moves up and down but I just can't see how  so I just keep thinking it's got to do something else that we just can't imagine yet.

Well, they've thrown in the kitchen sink, kettle and the toaster with this one. That top deck looks like a floating CocoCay, there is so much there.

In general, it appears to me to be an evolution of the Oasis design which is good and I think will definitely appeal to me. Hopefully can sail her at one point. Though I reckon all of these ships are Caribbean bound and we won't get one in the Med.

From the picture yes their is no seats so that could be quite danger but It got to be connect somehow from deck 5 to 8. So I don't see the point of have it on every floor from 5-8. It could be a stairs like you said but that is a lot of stairs. LOL, we just have to wait and see how RC do it.

It looks like a warm climate ship because no inside pool but I think they will sail in MED in Summer.

From this deck plan, it looks like Sorrento's will still be a separate venue

Helps if my mind would have stopped registering only Starbucks among the sea of venues starting with a S. Combine that with morning brain not wanting to register vertical text.

It will be interesting to see pricing for this ship. With so much 'resort' included with your cruise fare you have to believe it will be significantly higher than  standard cruise fare. Most waterparks are in the $50-$100 per person per day for admission (or well over $100 per day at Coco Cay) and I feel that Royals plan is to incorperate this into the fare.

I love the idea of the ecalators between lower floors, you have to believe this will drastically reduce elevator log jams after shows and events.

Only three types of rooms that hold more than 4 guests. Anybody know what color or the location of the family infinite ocean balcony rooms on deck plans? Icon has 78 of them.

If I had to guess these would be it. Location are deck 9, 10, and 11. Just past the aft elevators.

I hear ya.  I was bugging a lot of people online yesterday looking for info on the Pearl... I kept identifying the wrong venues as the Pearl.  It took me a while to realize that the Pearl was right there in 3-4 decks on the center of the deck plans. lol

Mildly kicking myself for not buying an open booking while we were on Harmony last month, I legitimately didn't expect it to open for booking before the end of the year.

To be honest, I wasn't thinking of Icon when I bought it. It was more to have the lower deposit locked in if and when something caught my eye, but this is great because it means I'll still be within the qualifying time frame for the little bit of OBC too.

it's going to be one heck of an inaugural sailing, that is for sure!!

i personally won't be able to afford it until it's been in service for a bit, probably closer to a year, given how i imagine they will be able to charge a premium for this behemoth of a ship. 🤩

not gonna stop me from living vicariously through every one else though!!

Do people rush to take the first revenue sailing? Or is the general consensus to wait a few sailings while they work out the kinks?

As long as you know what you are potentially getting yourself into, the inaugural sailing is a lot of fun. There's lots of media and it attracts a lot of the cruise ship vloggers so you'll see a lot of folks walking around talking to cameras 😆 It can be pretty entertaining and it's a lot of fun to experience it yourself first hand before catching it on someone's vlog. Plus they usually give everyone some cool swag for being on the inaugural sailing.

But there's always the chance that things aren't completely finished.  This happened a lot with Wonder, but there were really so many factors that played into that from the pandemic to supply chain issues and staffing, etc., that touched many aspects of the ships (shows, venues, activities, etc.)

There's quite a bit more of a runway to the first official sailing for Icon so one would hope they will have it more together by the time the sailing happens, but you never know!
