princevaliantus
NCL CEO Harry Sommer: We will announce future (November) cruise cancellations during the last week of August. They do not expect to dispose of any ships. All 17 plus the new Leonardo ships are accounted for over the next 5 years. And the 60 day final payment deadline is likely to stay on the remaining 2020 cruises. The refund request form for the recently canceled October sailings will be available starting on August 3rd. crisgold52, ehw51, WAAAYTOOO and 1 other 2

Whereas in Asia very good probability. The last thing any cruise line wants is to have more litigation from people saying "lets cruise already everything is open" aka planes restaurants etc. What people forget is a cruise ship can take a few days to reach port not a few hours low a flight pr like an hour in a restaurant, and some countries and ports will deny a ship with cases. This will lead to a repeat of what we saw in the spring. And rest assured there will be litigation as a result from passengers. Guaranteed so it's a big picture not an immediate one. As a Canadian looking in... it's always the case. I think having people sign wavers and having approved protocols (CDC sign off needed) would help mitigate litigation risk. I know that cruises have the issues of port admission, but I truly believe that planes and restaurants have risks that are not hunted down like they are against cruise lines. I just hope we can see this whole crisis in the rear view mirror soon.

Even locally at one of our gyms despite signing a waiver, a person who knowingly got injured pursued litigation and there was even an article about it as well so it become a semi-media event over personal injury. Waivers or not, if there's a will, there's a way. True, waivers cannot 100% stop litigation; but they are a tool to help reduce risk. Any time a business opens its doors, there is an element of risk. Risk waivers are used for surgeries quite often in the USA. Doctors still get sued, but the risk/cost has to be built into their business model. I think waivers will be present, but I think the big cruise lines are watching what is happening with the smaller ones first to help fine tune their procedures. I think the holdup will be building public trust in the safety of cruising and having CDC and port of calls buying into the procedures. I also do not think much if any 2020 will happen (maybe some small activity to test the waters) but due to regulatory barriers, not demand or legal risk. That is why I went with October 2021 for my second re-booking and am still keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm starting to lose faith in my first backup for FEB 2021 4nighter as well which I transplanted my FCC from November to. My secondary backup is April 3nighter if February folds. Both involve the perfect day product. My final retaining wall is a 7 night Alaska In May out of my home port in BC instead (a 15 minute drive haha) without flying 4300 km to FL. Then I'm flat out of backups. Hope at least one of those goes ahead. I would adore having a 15 minute drive to a port. The closest I have is around 11 hours....(Galveston, Texas). It is going to be so exciting when cruising starts up again!!!!! SpeedNoodles and USCG Teacher 1
monctonguy
Holland America Just announced all cruises cancelled through Dec 15th.. Anyone who thinks cruising will start before 2021 is sadly mistaken..I am thinking possibly even mid 2021 before I would be willing to even take a chance based on how things are still going.. crisgold52, YOLO and joshgates 1 1
monctonguy
Yeah....I have seen that..but with 14 day quarantine periods, not many can afford that kinda vacation time to go anywhere. With potential 2nd waves, no vaccine till 2021 etc...I just cant see cruising resuming on a large(normal)scale for at least a year. YOLO
monctonguy
Right..and still quarantine for 14 days once back....that's the kicker. So to cruise for a week, plus the day or two before and after..and the 14 days when you get back...a one week cruise turns into almost a 30 day "vacation"...not at all reasonable or feasible for 90% of the population or more in Canada....who knows about other countries.... But that's just one factor....the bigger issue will be re-occurring outbreaks, hotspots, no vaccine...then a vaccine but not enough people getting it to make it effective.... That's a cruise day's morning drive to Tampa, Port Canaveral (Orlando), Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) and Miami. Though I will admit that Miami is starting to stretch it a bit. But then again, the Florida peninsula is way more isolated from the rest of the country than you normally think. For instance, if we need to evacuate for a storm, it can take almost 350 miles to get somewhere safer. When we purchased our most recent vehicle, one issue was that we would need 500 miles of range on one tank of fuel, just in case. Mike Stephens
I'm 40 minutes from Bayonne, so that's nice. I have an Amtrak booked to go to and from Baltimore November 9th....holding out hope. If it doesn't pan out, I'll have to either cancel the train too and get credit to use another time (2045 at this rate,) or book a hotel and see Baltimore...and then self-quarantine at my desk for 14 days. Being essential personnel it fun :-/

I also think that's why the casino started sending out offers starting in April. Ogilthorpe, joshgates and WAAAYTOOO

Not really a gamble though because I don't have to make final payment until next Sept and by then I think they will know what's going on. Plus I am not paying for it lol my in laws are paying lol
