Traveling west Caribbean in October

Recommended Posts

We have sailed the Western Caribbean September through December and other than a few rain showers it is quite nice. Was there last October (Cozumel, Grand Cayman's & Jamaica) and it was great. Growing up the weather service always touted May through November as hurricane season so you would be on the tail end with little activity.

Is it safe to travel in Western Caribbean in October? We have a cruise booked for October 13th on Symphony of Seas and i am nervous about hurricanes.

As others have mentioned, if you’ve spent a billion dollars on vessel that moves, you are going to take it elsewhere. So if you have a western Caribbean itinerary they may move it to an Eastern Caribbean. Or they may flip ports so that things outside of the storm are done first allowing the storm to pass.

Your cruise is actually October 10. (I’m on Symphony on the 17th)

The actual cruise should be fine. We have had early October hurricanes here in Florida and Dorian last year wreaked havoc on the ports here. Some ships got extra days at sea, some cruises were shortened because ships couldn’t get back in. Dorian was late August though.

Matthew and Micheal were the 2 most recent October storms.

So they can happen but *generally* they don’t cause too much trouble for ships unless the home ports are in the path.
