Carnival to sail August 1

I read an article this morning that indicated that the CDC had no knowledge of Carnivals plan to resume cruising and that Carnival had not consulted with them (CDC) about this plan.  Makes me wonder if it was ever real to begin with.

But I wonder if Carnival did that on purpose? I feel like when the CDC came out with the no sail order they blindsided the cruise lines.. I remember they announced it late on a Thursday night giving the cruise lines no time to warn guests or have a response. Of course the CDC can do what they like but I think the cruise lines were upset about that and maybe that's why Carnival didn't consult CDC? Who knows I am purely speculating lol and could be totally off base.. I just wish everyone would get on the same page and give us some info.

I need you advise. My cruise for this months is cancel. Reading about possible bankruptcy I am afraid Royal can go try that to. Should I get money back or gamble and put 125% for cruise that I put deposit for next May?

I think it actually will be until there is an effective vaccine.  They are already showing that people can get it a 2nd time unlike the chickenpox, thus the vaccine is going to be the only route impo.

This is highly under debate. While they are finding traces of RNA after people have "recovered" there's debate as to whether this is actually virus that is active and transmissible.  Let's hope not.

I agree, but only time will tell.

Assuming RC filled to reorganize debt, I am 99% sure that FCC would still be valid. The company still needs customers to survive and they want people to take their cruses. If they made all FCC's worthless, then the company would be done.

United, Delta and American Airlines have each gone through Chapter 11 twice, and everyone kept their frequent flyer miles.

Yep, makes total sense. Making FCC’s worthless is the nuclear option. Would make no sense for a company that needs loyal guests to continue booking cruises.

I agree with you @WAAAYTOOO that I wonder if this is even remotely true that Carnical will begin sailing then. Sadly I think this is wishful thinking on everyones part. We are still deep in the pandemic worldwide. First, where will the ships sail from? No port in the US is prepared to open any time soon. And secondly, what countries are willing to recieve cruise ships? It would be interesting to see what itineraries Carnival is booking to what countries and then check those countries policies. I think this is a marketing move on thier part. Put it out there "We are sailing!" and guage interest and collect a lot of deposits with no real plan to be able to actually execute the cruise until the CDC approves them again. With all of the threads here about FCC's and the disposition of them I dont think I would be in a rush to give anyone any money on what is bascially wishful thinking right now.

Maybe thier intentions are honorable here about sailing. I also have honorable intentions of winning the powerball jackpot every weekend but that hasnt happened yet either.

Well I can tell you the Ships would sail from Florida... I live in Florida.. I can tell you Our governor sadly is a Mini Trump. And since Trump believes things should open Most of Florida is open.. South Florida is stated to open May 18.. I could see us being in phase 2 by Mid June... Tourism can resume in phase 2 and I have a feeling by end of July we absolutely will be ready to have ships.. Where do I think they will go probably Bahamas, Coco Cay, Labadee, Mexico, and wherever the Caribbean will let boats dock.. They also could very well leave out of Texas as their Governor also lets things be open.. Everywhere else I think not but that's exactly why Carnival said they will sail out of Florida and Galveston because those are the only 2 places that will let cruise ships lol.. I Strongly feel by End of July Early August ships will leave from Florida and Texas..

Thanks @AGSLC5  Sadly I have watched your governor from afar so fully understand what you are saying. Doesnt the CDC have something to do with this? Is there any inkling from them if they will extend the order or not?

If the information below is correct then maybe #3 is the loophole for FLorida. April 9th + 100 days is July 19th. so unless it gets extended it doesnt look like there would currently be any legal reason agains it.

The CDC Order

The order effectively bans cruise ship operations in light of the COVID-19 epidemic until the earliest of any of three conditions is met:

1-  If the Secretary of Health and Human Services declares that the COVID-19 public health emergency has expired;

2- If the CDC Director rescinds or modifies the order, based on public health or other considerations;

3- 100 days from the date of publication (April 9) of the order in the Federal Register.

The industry association, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), voluntarily suspended cruise ship operations on March 14 in conjunction with an earlier order issued by the CDC.

The CDC No sail order is over July 24.. So ships could resume right away at that point.. This is Why Disney said they want to resume July 27 and Carnival said Aug 1.. That way they are complying with the CDC order.. I have a feeling Royal will Follow suit and Start either July 30 or Aug 1... Today Michael Bayley told travel agents he would start from Florida and start with the ships that go to Coco Cay.. Which is pretty much what I guessed and is what Carnival is doing with having 8 ships leave out of Florida and Texas... I think Royal will do exact same thing... I think they will have Symphony, Harmony, Navigator, Independence, Mariner out of Florida and Liberty out of Texas.. I think those are the ships they will start with first.. This is just a guess of course and we need to wait for official announcement but its what I think could happen..

All of this is predicated on the CDC not extending the order correct?

I would assume so.. But the White House has some effect over the CDC.. For instance the no sail order was originally going to be 120 days.. Cruise lines reached out to the White House which then told the CDC to make it 100 days.. As Matt reported the 3 CEO's of Carnival, NCL, and Royal all are on Trump's "Task Force" for how to reopen and business leaders.. So I have a feeling the White House will lean hard on the CDC to not extend unless they really feel they need too..

I have a very strong belief that the CDC will extend because "they really feel they need to" and I am in agreement with them. IMHO I would rather have long term safety and stability in the cruise industry over our collective want to get back to 'normal'.

They can’t stay shut down much longer.

@Cmaccullen There have been numerous reports that CCL and RCCI have enough to stay down until around 2021. I am not saying they should but it has literally been 2 months and a few days.

It seems like people don't want things done right but done fast. This ordeal has driven home how much of an instant gratification society America is......even countries whose primary source of income is derived from tourism have not been in such a rush.

Italy announce today that they will be opening up for tourist come June/July.  In essence, 90 days after they shut down.    We shut down very shortly after their county.  We would be following their footsteps, but still longer on a shutdown than Italy.

@Pima1988 Italy and all the other countries that are beginning to open up had far more stricter shutdown protocols. Also my point is these countries have more of a reason to open up in a shorter period of time. In America spring break was still going on and many places were open for Easter. I don't believe we actually did shut down....we never did because I could literally do everything I normally would besides eating in an actual restaurant the entire time. We didn't close off state borders, we basically stopped entertainment...that's what travel, sports, dining out and amusement parks are. I live down the block from a barbershop that didn't close until almost Easter and opened up last week. I am not opposed to the country opening up, I am opposed to the rhetoric that "its about time, we cannot wait forever."

A number of people with influence are waking to the thought that the numbers really does not justify continuing these lockdown policies; yet alone, the shutdown of the Global Economy. More & more are speaking against lockdown measures & no doubt, a growing number of regular everyday citizens have as well.

Italy is likely to have a 14 day quarantine period on users from outside the 26 EU countries, so it's only partially opening up and those of us outside these countries will find it difficult to visit, me included, so I'm not expecting my end of June trip on Explorer will happen.?
