I'm being tested today

In know this isn't exactly what this board is for but I have to be tested today and my wife. A guy I work with and his wife both tested positive and he is very sick. I mean bad flu sick, not hospital sick. His wife is not sick other than no sense of taste or smell, no flu like symptoms. I sit next to him at work in the morning waiting for our orders, lunch and before we go home at the end of the day. They have 4 kids too so its a really big mess.

We have no symptoms, no fever, nothing so far. I'm really freaked out about getting this thing up my nose that is for sure, really nervous. Hopefully the results come quick. My friend got his the next day when they told him a few days. To bring this back to cruises a little bit, we are booked for Oasis in Sept. will we sail, I hope so but who knows? I was confident but less so now. With this crisis I don't know what is to come.

Thank you all. So we are done, drive up thing and the test, yes it sucks. I mean it's extremely uncomfortable. Myself, my wife and my coworker all said the right nostral was way worse for some reason. That you again, appreciate the well wishes.

And lets hope in a few months we are all enjoying beautiful Royal Caribbean ships and this is all behind us.

I know the waiting's gonna be the worst part, but sending you my best through all of this, no matter the outcome. I hope you're able to get your results in a timely manner -- several weeks ago, one of my friends in Florida had to wait 7 days for her results (this was before things like drive-thru testing became available).

Thank you, they said 5-10 days but I can't imagine it taking that long. It should be 15 minutes.

I hope everything works out okay, just think positive thoughts. I recently went to donate plasma, the easiest way to see if I had COVID-19 since I was sick way back in Feb. I was able to donate antibody plasma, which means my suspicions were confirmed. Although those test are not 100% accurate, it is good to know I have built up some immunity either way. Both lawyers at my firm recovered, so lets not go in all doom and gloom. Know that if you do have it, you caught it early enough to be prepare and if you don't, your "washy, washy" is on point.

Good luck!

The test isn't that bad, same as a flu test. Result times vary depending on the lab. Instant tests are not common place yet. Our turn around is 24 -72 hours for nasal swabs currently. 5-10 days is on the very long side of things.  What state are you in?

Antibody test has been steady at 24 hours but that's a blood test and not helpful until weeks after you are done being sick.

We are in New Jersey. Thank you for the info, interesting. When are we gonna have the saliva test I keep reading about?

Yes, they did the left first and I was like this is not too bad but the right felt so, so bad for some reason. It just felt like it went all the way into my brain. I still feel it.

I wonder if it's one of those things where your adrenaline is going, you realize it's not too bad, then the drop in adrenaline makes the second hurt more. I suppose that would be possible only if they always did left first.

We have a September Oasis sailing booked too and I'm not overly optimistic of actually sailing but bought the drink package anyway. There is only two reasons we wouldn't go, one being Royal canceled on us, which, September might be too soon for NY/NJ but hopefully not.

I wish nothing but the best for you, your family, and co-workers. You have support here, as you can see from this thread alone.

I'm in Jersey as well. Guessing you went to one of those pop up drive thru test sites.  They should come back sooner than 5 days.

As for the salva test, it can technically be done already most places. It's just not a preferred collection method. We can do it but out of the couple hundred tests we've run out of my office we have done exactly zero that way.

I booked in September out of Jersey. Very confident we will be sailing.

Thank you! Are on Oasis Sept 6th? I hope we both sail no matter which cruise we are on. Thank you again, appreciate it.

September 20th sailing. Was really looking forward to it too. We sailed Oasis in 2010 & 2012 and was excited to see the completely refurbished ship. Heck, somethings were changed that we didn't even see :). We are sailing Harmony in December out of Port Canaveral, I am more optimistic about that. Fingers crossed!

I want to sail so bad. Gonna need it after all this. Not that it will actually be "after all this" I guess. Even if I have to wear my bandanna on my face I want to go. I look like an old time Locomotive engineer with it on or a bank robber. I think it looks cool.

Nice! I should probably apologize in advance, I get value from the drink package! Yeah, I am not totally being naysayer, I do suspect ships will be sailing by September. Heck, honestly, until about yesterday I was optimistic our Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas was happening... Now, even if it is, I don't think it'll be worth the visit. See what the casinos say when they re-open.

Personally, just need a change of scenery and to get away from my "new routine."

Sounds like a drinking challenge to me. Game on!

Sorry to say this, but that's to ensure a proper swabbing.  It needs to get way up in there to obtain a good sample.?

Hoping for happy results for you, your wife and coworker. ?

Well I'm feeling just a tad, just a tiny, idity bit nauseous today. My guess is I will be positive with extremely mild symptoms. That would be my guess though. I have no fever and they say 83% to 99% get a fever. I don't think I'm gonna puke but I feel just a tiny bit nauseous.

Truthfully, I am hoping that you do have a very mild case, will have no other symptoms and will generate antibodies.  I think this is the population that is going to enjoy the greatest freedoms once things start to open back up.  I certainly hope you DON'T transmit to anyone else but that you have a very mild case but one strong enough to build antibodies.  That is what I wish for myself !!!!

I thought of that too. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. And I get a 14 day vacation from work. ?
