RC must put HEPA FILTERS on its ships

Recommended Posts

Do people from RC read this forum?  If anybody from RC reads this post, i urge you to immediately put HEPA FILTERS on your ships.   As per CNN article in this link, CRUISE SHIPS do NOT HAVE THE HEPA FILTERS thus allowing viruses to spread via the AIRCON SYSTEM currently in place.  This is a simple and cheap solution which all cruise ships should immediately implement, excerpt as follows "

"Cruise ships in principle look like a building, so their air conditioning systems are similar to those in buildings," says Qingyan Chen. "There's nothing wrong with that in normal circumstances, but with a viral outbreak that's a problem, because the filters they use don't block viruses."
That means that the ventilation systems may have spread the virus from one cabin to the next, by recirculating contaminated air that contained tiny droplets expelled by sneezing or coughing passengers."

This is great news ? if its from cabin to cabin via AC only then im just going stay in the bar 24/7 from now on....  ???

HEPA purifiers can capture the COVID-19 virus. But that's a moot point, because it's not airborne.

COVID-19 is definitely airborne, when we have a patient that is a HIGH suspicion with it, they have to go into a negative pressure room, we wear a PAPR to filter the air that we breathe and must cover our hair underneath the PAPR, as well as a gown and gloves.  The 6 feet between people help to cut down on the risk of the airborne particles reaching the respiratory tract and finding its next victim.  It is also passed from touch as well, its a nasty virus that the CDC is learning more and more about everyday which is partly why there is so much conflicting information out there at the moment.

It most certainly IS airborne. Otherwise, there would be no need for filtering N-95 respirators (commonly incorrectly called "masks").

Per The New England Journal of Medicine,  Airborne transmission is “plausible,” but the researchers concluded that whether the coronavirus can suggests that it can be aerosolized are ONLY preliminary, finding that no aerosolized coronavirus particles were found in hospital rooms of Covid-19 patients. At this point, no one really knows until a definitive scientific proof or test results are provided.

Same can be said for buses, taxis, airplanes, schools, churches, retail stores and homes.

I'm confident you have a HEPA filter in your home to capture the virus and prevent it from circulating in your home in case a family member brings it home.

Does a taxi?  How about a bus, subway, train, or an airport?   Does you local court house have HEPA filters?  DMV and license plate office?  How about City Hall?  Do they use HEPA filters?

Ask you grocery store if they use HEPA filters.

Are you also on their list too, I normally get the Email link to the journal regularly and with the Coronavirus NEJM has almost a daily update.  I don’t read all the articles but not sure that is completely accurate.  While science and scholarly articles usually leave at least some possibility of change, there is proof that this passes from person to person, usually droplet.  The info from NEJM below does show it does remain in the air.

Aerosol and Surface Stability of SARS-CoV-2 as Compared with SARS-CoV-1
N. van Doremalen and Others
DOI: 10.1056/NEJMc2004973 | March 17, 2020

“Our results indicate that aerosol and fomite transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is plausible, since the virus can remain viable and infectious in aerosols for hours and on surfaces up to days (depending on the inoculum shed). These findings echo those with SARS-CoV-1, in which these forms of transmission were associated with nosocomial spread and super-spreading events,5“

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a movement to mandate HEPA filters on cruise ships despite the statistics that show that the transmission of viruses and diseases is much more likely on land.

The bottom line is if you act like an idiot and expose yourself, not wash your hands and take measures anywhere, you'll get sick.
