We in Michigan are on a stay in place for the next 3 weeks. Essential places will be open. We are not the only state that have this. Experts, how  do think is this going to impact the Aprill 11 start sailing cruise dates? Requardless if we sail or dont on the 11th, I will still cruise when we are allowed to. Cruise fan forever!!!

I think April 11 was always a "test the waters" date. Containment of the virus has failed in the US, and now it's a matter of trying like mad to slow the rate of infection. Given the same number of people are going to get infected, just more slowly (I hope!! People like those college kids who insisted on going to Miami Beach for spring break are not making the effort easy!!), I have every expectation that there will be an extension of the restart date, with further cancellations and refunds/credits issues.

I'm also sticking it out to the bitter end. August is over 4 months away. Current talk from the disease specialists in DC is starting to talk about this slowing down in April or May, and looking at how to start resuming normal life then without also causing a big resurgence in the virus. Hopefully those are statements based on newly-learned or confirmed facts about the virus, and not just a PR statement to reassure us.

We don't have a statewide shelter in place, but Dallas county issued one that goes into effect tonight at midnight. Cities around Dallas have been following their lead, and the mayor of our town, which is in the county just north of Dallas, has said he is making an announcement in the morning regarding a shelter order. I think more rural cities and counties will trickle into the same situation as the virus continues to spread,  and at this point April 11 isn't likely. I've pretty much given up hope for my May 25th sailing... I'm feel like I'm playing a game of chicken with Royal to see who will cancel first.

Same for us in Houston. I'm playing that same game of chicken with RC with my 5/3 cruise.

Def. a game. But more of flipping a coin. But... Heads we win... Tails they lose. lol
We're booked for late May to Alaska.... and we are not cancelling. IF we get to go.... great, but if RCI cancels, we'll gladly take our 125%. ?

I know a lot of things would have to fall into place for that to happen right now. And matter of a fact I personally think that late May will be the earliest anyone would get to even think about going. But rest assured, they are going to jump as quick as they can to get things back up and running.

Don't forget that with Alaska, there is the dependency on the Canadian port visit to satisfy the Jones Act. Canada still has all ports closed until July, so even if domestic cruising to the Caribbean opens up again in May (a fairly big "if"; Caribbean ports could continue denying access to ships), Alaskan itineraries won't resume then if Canada doesn't reopen Vancouver and/or Victoria early.

So far, Gov. Hogan of Maryland has stopped short of a shelter-in-place order, but I can't help but think (and as someone in the world of emergency management, kinda hope) that it's coming soon enough. More non-essential businesses were closed today, and of course, there's still no word on when the Cruise Maryland Terminal will re-open. I'm definitely staring down RCCL over my June cruise to Canada; I've got a July itinerary booked, too...but I really don't want to go ahead and cancel the June one because I'm inside final payment and I'd rather Royal blink first and I get the better deal.

We cruisers are a stubborn bunch!

In quebec Canada we have had our kids out of school for 2 weeks and at least another 5 more weeks to go.

As healthcare workers we have also been asked not to travel till at least the (end) summer.

Oh...and the borders are closed...lol.

Everything but essential services open. And they want to start giving fines to people for social gathering over 2 people...

Oy...

I need a cruise...

In New Jersey, the schools also closed 2 weeks ago and are now closed for the entire rest of the school year. All students, whether college or lower level, are on distance learning.

We're also under near-lockdown conditions since this past Friday. No non-essential travel, and no travel at all after 9 PM. All essential businesses and restaurants that offer take-out or delivery must be closed by 8 PM, with employees home by the 9 PM curfew, with the exception of course of hospitals and their employees.

I'm trying to work out out how to properly use my wet-dry beard trimmer and shaver to give myself a passable haircut. With barbers closed for the foreseeable future, I'm really glad that I started just getting a buzz cut all over once a month or two.

I would take this even a step further and say anything before 10/1/20 is 0% especially since this virus is just ramping up now. It’s going to take many months to clean up this mess and what’s to say the company survives the financial slaughter? Just trying to be real.

Wowsa... that's a lot of time at home with our kids....love them to death but they are exhausting!

If our kids cant go to school, there is no way we will be allowed to travel IMO.

When do they normally finish? We go all the way till end of june.

Almost the same here. Current schedule had the public schools getting out on Wednesday, June 24. No idea if they'll end things earlier, or extend the spring break week at all since we still have a bunch of unused snow days, or what.

My older one's college was going to be done in early May, so it's less of a disruption for her but still problematic. She's a vocal performance major, and the opera she and her classmates were working on has been pushed to the fall semester. All of their other public performances, which are the highlight of their semesters, are also gone. Thankfully, most of what they were working on for this semester apart from the opera was already done, but they can't even go out and do gigs or anything. For some of the older students, that's their part-time job and source of income, so they're feeling the pinch.

And no one has any idea of whether we'll see any tuition or residence money refunded. They got kicked out of school two months ahead of schedule, but paid for a full semester in their dorms / apartments. I know the university still has to pay the lease / bond / whatever that went into those buildings, plus maintenance including over the summer... but it's still gonna sting if they get absolutely none of it back. They were only back on campus for 2 months before this all hit the fan.

Today, here in Delaware, we start the stay in Place.  They did cancel school now till May 15th.  At that point why not the whole school year! LOL  I've been working from home remotely for a NJ Financial firm, so I'm already set up and have no issues.  Most of our clients are in NJ/NY though so the phones are not ringing except to SELL!  LOL

Don't have any cruises booked till December and who knows if I make that one.  Everyone stay safe!!

My college is currently putting a move-out plan in place -- students' stuff is still in their dorms despite no students allowed on campus for 2 weeks now -- and the college will be refunding a pro-rated amount of room/board. Tuition, no...because we're all still doing distance learning, so our educations are continuing.

Here in Illinois, it's kind of been a mixed bag. My youngest, a HS senior is doing e-learning. Schools are closed for the near future. Only essential businesses are supposed to be open, but in Illinois that includes liquor stores? All restaurants are only, pick up or delivery, with many of they doing curbside and not allowing anyone indoors. They don't want you to gather in large groups, but you can stand in line at the grocery stores, trying to find essentials like tp that for some reason is being hoarded.

One day at a time. That's all we can do.

Same to all the above here in Maryland.

I can't help but wonder if the liquor stores staying open (here, they're doing online/call-in order with curbside pickup) are a reaction to all the kids being home from school. ? ?

I could be wrong, but I feel that the state of Illinois keeping liquor stores open has something to do with the amount of lottery tickets purchased at liquor stores. Just saying. We need to shelter in place, but not if it effects lottery sales.

In Denver they initially ruled liquor stores must close.  Within minutes long lines formed and the city was inundated with complaints.  Within hours they exempted liquor stores so they could stay open.

No lottery sales at liquor stores here.

NY the liquor stores are open. Also - our restaurants are selling curbside pickup cocktails/beer/wine with your food pickup. It's kinda awesome and it keeps restaurants in business.

It was an unexpected deviation from policy, until a couple of weeks ago, we couldn't even buy wine in a grocery store ... now mixed drinks to go!  There is the provision that food has to be part of the order.  At the same time, I could imagine ..."I would like a French fry .... and 12 Harvey Wallbangers ....to go" ????

I love it so much. I haven't done it yet but I'm going to. My friends have been posting the fun cocktails and the creative way restaurants have been making it work...adult capri suns. Bottling cocktails. Mason jars.

A small change to the wording of the order made ALL the difference, originally, it read "original and closed containers" then it was changed to "original OR closed containers" that opened up all sorts of possibilities!! Have a gallon jug with a cap? ... now you have a party!???

I love seeing all of the creative ways American businesses are innovating to overcome the negative effects of this misery.  Most of our local restaurants are providing take out and delivery and providing support (meals) to our local HCP and first responders.  It really is heart warming and a reminder that nothing is more powerful than love and good ol’ American ingenuity. I don’t think our liquor laws allow alcohol to be taken out.  I haven’t heard of anything like that, locally.

NY always had very strict rules about liquor sales, and any form of carryout was prohibited. Oddly, just to the south of us is Pennsylvania, where you could always get carry out from a bar. They, in contrast to NY, closed all of the liquor stores, going so far as to board some up. ?
