What if RC cancels my cruise

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if RC cancels a already paid for cruise  will they refund the money , give a cruise credit for what I paid or allow me the same booking ( stateroom , dining ect) at a later time  .  I was able to get great prices for two upcoming cruises in April and September of 2020 and I am pretty sure I won't be able to book the same category stateroom in the future .  Thanks for any help .

Ultimately no one knows as we are in strange waters.

When Royal cancels a cruise they have historically refunded any payments made toward that cruise.  I assume that will continue to be the practice when they cancel a cruise but i don't know that for certain.   In some jurisdictions they have no choice but to refund credit card payments since they are no longer providing the service or product.

If FCC was used to pay down the cruise or it's a casino funded cruise those may be lost but even that isn't clear.

When Royal cancelled our Hong Kong to Japan cruise they offered the following options:

1) Rebook a cruise from a short list of price protected sailings of Royal's choice

2) Rebook on any other cruise of our choice with either $100 or $200 (Suite) OBC

3) Cancel the cruise for a refund to the original purchase account.

This is why I am waiting to the last minute to cancel my cruise. I would prefer a cash refund instead of cruise credit. With the WHO declaring a pandemic, I am thinking international travel should be seriously curtailed and our Transatlantic to Southampton might be cancelled. London is lagging behind taking any actions other than hand washing, etc. so both my hotel and airline refuse to cancel, refund or rebook.?

The only disadvantage I can see by waiting is that if your cruise is not cancelled by Royal and you cancel using the Cruise With Confidence policy, you will be issued a FCC valid until the end of 2021. If the virus situation drags on you may not wish to cruise next year either which would mean your FFC would lapse and you would lose your money.

The FCC is only issued based on the amount of money you have paid to date so if did cancel early the FCC would only be for the deposit (assuming that is all you have paid so far) and you would lose less if you elected not to use it next year.

This what we had this morning, not sure if the same applies to no-uk customers.

Dear
At Royal Caribbean International, the safety and well-being of our guests and crew is top priority. So, in light of current regional travel conditions, we've made the difficult decision to cancel our Quantum of the Seas 30-Apr-20 cruise.

o    We'll begin processing all refunds immediately, and depending on your banking institution or method of payment, you should start seeing these refunds by the 25th March 2020, but most likely sooner. Please note, that if you paid via a wire transfer or check, your refund will take at least a week longer.
•    If you purchased air or hotel¿
o    via Royal Caribbean, these will also be automatically refunded to you.
o    on your own, we will assist you with air change or cancellation fees. We will cover $200 USD per person for domestic flights or $400 USD per person for international flights. Hmm..no future credit...

I would rather that with airfare refund to be honest...as just giving me a FCC still creates a headache with flights and change fee's etc and trying to make future vacation plans to fit the limitations of these credits.

Unless they offer a large extra FCC in lieu of just a refund, its not worth it for us.

Still 34 days out for our cruise but very way at this point as to what realistically is going to happen.

As I see it, when we booked, there was a cancellation policy that we basically agreed to. Royal have now announced a much more flexible policy, but will only refund in the for of FCC. At the end of the day, they don't even have to do this.

On the other hand, if they actually cancel a cruise, the refund will depend on where you purchased the cruise.

I can only speak for Australia, and if they cancel your cruise, under Australian consumer law, they must refund in full based on the method of payment. They cannot just offer FCC.

One would hope they made an offer off 100% refund, or FCC for 100%+, but at this stage we don't know.

Yes, other cruise lines are making better offers, but at this point, I just want to go on the cruise I booked...
