Went from an interior room to an ocean view balcony and I'm getting $60 back after the entire process! It was very much worth the wait! Just saying if you have an upcoming sailing, it might not be the worst idea to give them a call now with everything going on. Figure the worst that they could say was "no we can't help you". We were upgraded from our Ocean View balcony room to a GTY Junior Suite for a whole $3.00. We said we would never spend the money on a suite but couldn't pass that deal up. Enjoy your upgrade! So on the big Oasis class ships I often need a scooter. I also like using a shower chair because I have terrible balance and have fallen before so an accessible stateroom is ideal.. This cruise is Symphony and its my Prime annual comp.. Then back in November I used an FCC that I got because of Hurricane Dorian to upgrade to an Oceanview balcony.. At the time there were no accessible staterooms but they put a note in my file that should one become available that I need it and they would price protect me and give it to me... Well it was looking I was going to have to squeeze in the room with the scooter and get a portable shower chair because no staterooms became available. All of a sudden this morning because of all the cancelations they became available. So my room category was a 6D Oceanview balcony but the handicap rooms are 4D Oceanview balcony. The lady from club Royale understood and said she has to get the escalation department involved to get it price protected for me because as I said they see back in November I did request that room.. So I am on hold forever and she finally comes back and says great news we can do this for $138. I say Ok that sounds reasonable.. Then I go to get my credit card and she says oh I'm sorry its $877.. I said no now that is not reasonable that's not being price protected. She says Ok let me get my supervisor so I was another 30 min and finally she comes back and says great news you were right my supervisor said we shouldn't be charging you anything. I said oh that is great news. Then she said ok we will fix this and I will send you an updated invoice.. I said oh no sorry but I am not hanging up until I have invoice in my email.. I said no offense but I have been burned by club Royale before and I am not sitting on hold another 90 min to explain this to someone else and start over.. She reluctantly said ok and put me on hold for another 30 min while the supervisor fixed everything. She then came back and sent me the invoice.. We’re in a junior suite so moving up at no charge is highly unlikely but my T/A was checking anyways. congrats to all of that have though! I tried for our {2 cabins} sailing out of Singapore on the 30th April, offered to pay circa £900 extra {$300 OBC per cabin} to upgrade to a suit, but all I got was a suggestion to cancel and rebook. Not sure if that would be a good move as my travel insurance & credit card company might wonder why I booked new cruise with the knowledge it might be cancelled. I have heard that after the royal up thye are not allowing for changes, but had not heard a definate on this. You can always ask about upgrades at the port. JohnK6404 Posted March 11, 2020 Report Share Posted March 11, 2020 My wife called the TA this afternoon and after 3 hours (thankfully, they offered to call us back when they finally got Royal on the line), we received a small "free" upgrade (we'll take anything!) from Ocean View Balcony (Aft, but near mid ship) to Ocean View with Large Balcony (mid ship). Asked about upgrade to Junior Suite, but RC wanted $1,500 more right now for this sailing... maybe we'll try again down the line (5/31/20 sail date) or bid on RoyalUp if we have the opportunity! We did see the JS listed for the Oasis 9/27/20 sailing at $2,400 (double occupancy) last night! Definitely call and ask if there are any upgrades available... it can't hurt! Finally got through after calling 3 times today and waiting over an hour each time I called. Traveling solo so not having to pay for the upgrade is nice. Upgraded 2 weeks ago for our (my sister & myself) cruise on Rhapsody in August to the Greek Isles. Chadster Posted March 12, 2020 Report Share Posted March 12, 2020 There are definitely good bargains to be had; the OVB I booked on Monday evening is, as of about 48 hours later, now nearly $800 less than I paid. My TA managed to get me a price drop yesterday when it went down less than 24 hours after I booked when it dropped nearly $200, so I'm not so sure RC would be accommodating now...and I think my TA needs a break from me. That being said, I might have her look into a possible paid upgrade in a day or two -- if there's anything that's still actually higher than I paid in the next day or two...at the moment, even a JS is cheaper than what I paid 48 hours ago. We upgraded in May on Independence, from Interiors to Ocean Balconies too!! But without a TA, and we will never ever ever book without a TA ever ever again. It was a long and grueling process, but I'm glad I experienced it because I will appreciate the TA even more next round! Especially with all the awesomeness your TA's are doing.
