Cruise Planner - Casino Royale

Recommended Posts

Ugh, we can't even book the escape room for our April 4 Symphony sailing.

I'm this || close to signing up for the sushi class just to have something on my calendar.

edit: Well, still no escape room, but we do have these Casino Royale opportunities now.

Are they implying that signing up is now required for the table game lessons? Every cruise to date has been "here's what time we have the gaming lessons - show up if you're interested."

From the description, you will go to the same classes (says to check compasses for times) - were they historically subject to a fee? This says it includes $25 in casino credit and two drink vouchers (I guess that's where they get the $45 value).

That's a damn good deal in my opinion.. We could sign up via planner on-board of Symphony in Feb for free, but they didn't offer anything other than the lesson!

This is available on my Empress and Navigator cruises coming up.  It used to be free to learn to play, I thought that was the whole point of free was to attract new players and get them into the casino to help generate revenue.  Technically it is still free you just have to pay upfront and then get it back in casino credit and a couple drinks.

There has never been a fee for the gaming lessons that I am aware of.

It's been over a decade since the media has had the chance to hysterically report about the chance of a pandemic and the impacts it has on the economy.....and the bottom line of a cruise ship.   Even on sailings that still go, I'm pretty sure casino revenue is down overall because chips and machines often are the highest concentration of germs on board.

Last cruise I was too dumb to leave the table when the person beside me was standing on 14 vs a 10. I deserved to lose my money.

And this affected your play how?

After 20 years working in casinos, it always amazes me how people think in this regard. If that person was in box 7, and the next two cards out were 6, 10 and they didn't draw, this would mean you win. If they did the "correct" thing and drew the 6, you would probably lose.

Unless you know what the next card out is going to be, just ignore the other players on the table and play your own cards.

To be perfectly honest, I was being semi-facetious. I figured the self-deprecating nature of the post would be indicative of that.

Also, explaining a joke is the fastest way to kill a joke.

To your point, while I do play basic strategy, I know that this does not guarantee winning every time out. I do tend to come out in the black when I play, as I'm generally smart enough to quit while I'm ahead. Not huge victories - $50 here, $100 there - but it's enough for me. And it helps take care of the gratuities.

Where I went wrong here is that I did not quit while I was behind. It is true that there was a player that was making generally accepted "bad plays", and frankly it did create more losses than wins for the table, but I was the one who engaged in a bit of gambler's fallacy and kept going. I could not accept the loss, kept playing and it cost me.

Tangent: I've started getting "$50 in free play if you book your cruise now" emails, so I'm thinking I should maybe cut down on the penny ante table games. I need good offers or none at all.

I think I need the lessons, I don't even know what game you're talking about. ?

In addition to the casino offerings, I'm also seeing items you once had to gift yourself via the Royal Gifts section of the website. (Decorations, chocolate covered strawberries, champagne, beach toys, etc.)

The "correct" thing nets the player -.05% so unless they can count card and doing so on a cruise... I agree, just play your cards. LOL.

I've seen some really dumb moves play out for people... Those same dumb moves usually ended in my loss, so I do understand the aggravation, but I'm not at a $10 blackjack table looking to "earn" a living.

This isn't too new...these were available in my cruise planner for the entire year leading up to my cruise this past September and February. I can't speak to before that - I was in an 8 year dry dock.

Ah. Never noticed prior. In 2018 I had to purchase a gift for my wife via Royal Gifts. One Friend last year purchased us champagne and another friend purchased his wife decorations, I'm going to ask them if it was available.

Maybe I just pay too little attention to areas outside of the beverage packages ?

From what I've seen on RC, they use continuous shufflers where the cards are shuffled back into the show after each hand, thus killing any hope of counting.

Most casinos nowadays are going this way unfortunately... after the years I spent trying to stop card counters, now that I'm out of the game, I can't use my skills for my own benefit. ?

I've found that there's usually one table in the non-smoking area that does hand shuffling, but with a higher minimum. And it's usually busy.

But did they replace all the soft surfaces after that

I’m not sure, but I have never noticed the smell of cigarettes at any table and I am usually pretty sensitive to smells like that.
