Corona cruiser
RCCL has been loading my e-mail with offers of The Key. Looks like a great way for them to make some extra money and me to spend money on something besides drinks. Has anyone had a wonderful experience with The Key upgrade? A common (and my) take on it is IF you are low in Crown and Anchor Society, AND if you are not in a suite, AND if you are already going to buy the Voom internet package AND if you are on a Quantum, Oasis, or otherwise amped ship (Navigator, etc) AND if you can snag it for less than $22, then yes, it can be worth it. Otherwise, no. I've used it 3 times because I've gotten pretty good deals on it and I met all of my qualifications. But is it necessary? Absolutely not. Mrs. RoyalMoyal
I agree with SpeedNoodles. The first time I had it was on Freedom last Easter, and it was at it's absolute BEST back then before it was changed ... Before the change, I had multiple hours on the flowrider, the awesome lunch on boarding day IN chops, two separate hours on the almost empty ice rink for open skate, front row ice show seats, great show seats, and an escorted walk all the way to my bags in port. In December on Oasis, I boarded at the same time I would have as Diamond, had lunch in the MDR with a Chops menu, and only one hour was offered for each activity.. and I did not get front row seats to skating, (because a Genie took all those for much higher paying guests than me). I don't think I will bother with the key again, maybe if it is the same price as WIFI, and only if I NEED WIFI for the trip. foxrunner
loki007
we love the key. If you are buying the internet anyways might as well get the key. The priority boarding, Chops Grille lunch on embarkation day, and priority disembarkation are worth the $. I have a teen who definitely gets the value out of the key times at the flowrider. foxrunner
Chadster
If I end up getting the Voom package for my May cruise (I kinda like the idea of disconnecting for a few days!), I'll likely get The Key because prices are running so close -- though being on a smaller ship like Grandeur does limit some of the benefits. foxrunner
FManke
I purchased The Key for our Greek Isle cruise next Oct on Rhapsody. I got for $16.99. Since we were planning on get one device surf and stream, price at the time was $12.50 per day, the difference per person was about $4.44 daily. Seemed like a good deal and worth the money. We are currently in a JS and will consider a Royal Up bid to a GS or OS, for the right price. If we win a bid, we will drop The Key. foxrunner
foxrunner
Speednoodles per the usual nailed it. We enjoyed the Key benefits but really needed to catch an early flight. That is why we got the Key. I'm not going to purchase for our next cruise. USCG Teacher

Caught my eye here: DH insisted on the Key (I think he liked the seats on Nav with the Key and the welcome lunch and getting internet anyway) for our May trip on Indy in a JS; can I ask what prompts your dropping it if you're awarded a RU to GS or OS? Do those come with Internet? I wondered about dropping the key when we were in a similar situation in September but thought it was too close to sailing date to cancel if you're awarded your RU a day or 2 before sail date. I appreciate your input on this
jaredhamburg
I have never sailed Royal Caribbean before and got the Key for a March 30, 2020, sailing on The Enchantment of the Seas out of Galveston, TX. It was roughly $200 more than just the internet (we need it for medical reasons). The nice meals coming and going plus some timesavers/service to make things easier were appealing to me. I know you can work around this and do not need it, but we are traveling with our two children (one is a Type 1 diabetic and one has severe ADHD) for our 10th anniversary. I wanted the easy button and viewed the upcharge as worth it in relation to most excursions. FManke and WAAAYTOOO

I appreciate your input on this We could purchase the two device surf and stream and lunch in Chops, for cheaper than The Key, being that the other "benefits" of The Key are also benefits of suite guests, plus more. If we do go with a Royal Up bid, we will have to determine before Sept 30th, for us, 4 days out whether to drop The Key or not. It's a gamble either way. Drop the bid and don't get the Royal UP, lose the perks. Keep The Key, get the Royal UP and pay for some duplicate perks. PRebecca
