Price drop after final payment...category change??

Girlfriends trip coming in April.  Southern Caribbean on Adventure of the Seas. We are beyond final payment and now see the price of a guarantee balcony DROPPED.  We are booked in an interior cabin.  The price we paid for an interior is higher than what’s being shown online now for the balcony guarantee....wouldn’t I be able to move up to that category? Asking as after waiting on hold today for 40 minutes, the person I talked to at RC didn’t sound confident in their responses and also seemed like he was trying to get off the call quickly.

As long as you booked using North American rules, absolutely YES !!!  You can definitely reprice your cruise BUT you will not get a refund for any $$ that would represent a savings.  The good news is...you will be in a much nicer cabin for the same money.  Have the Travel Agent do it for you or call Royal and have them take care of it.  Great sleuthing !!!

Welcome to the blog, BTW !

Any idea if this applies in the UK also.

Thank you!  That’s what I thought...maybe worth calling back and try to get someone else?  I don’t expect any money back, but if I could be moved into the guarantee balcony, they could resell the interior...they’d make more money. I booked this one a long time ago.  My recent booking I moved to MEI after hearing all of the great things about them on the podcast and here.

You may have already called and taken care of this... but you can ask for them for the upgrade for no refund and they will do a price protected upgrade at no charge for you.  Sad you cant get that extra money back, but a much nicer cabin than you had paid for.... and you didnt have to play the upgrade bid game!

My cruise from the 19 April on freedom of the seas dropped and is cheaper now then back in August when we booked. We are talking about 150$. it's not much but they refuse to credit me.  Should I keep trying?

They will not credit you.  Final payment date has passed for this cruise.  You will not be able to get any kind of refund.  What you MIGHT be able to do is upgrade to a higher cabin category for no additional money.  That is the only option you have.

Can you believe that the price is now 300$ cheaper than what I paid back in August and I'm fighting to get a compensation. So far no luck in getting room upgrade or on board credit. The balcony Oceanview is 300$ more than what we paid for the Oceanview no balcony. Wish me luck.

When looking at the prices, don't forget that some of them might be for new bookings. I thought the price of an ocean-view dropped to less than what I paid for an interior,  but it turned out it was a sale price that wasn't valid for existing bookings.

That is exactly what I just did for my next FOS sailing in Apr 5th, had a GTY Interior, and ended up on an Spacious Ocean View Balcony and it still cheaper of what I already paid, but I am happy with it, I even selected the cabin I wanted.

I have tried to do this exact same thing!  I have a 12 night cruise booked in May out of Barcelona.  The price dropped drastically on Friday.  I called to get upgraded from an ocean view to balcony - I was told I couldn't do it.  The price difference should have been around $500.  My cabin was actually less than I originally paid - oh well.  It's always a gamble.

Anyway - she told me since I had made final payment, I couldn't keep my casino discount if I made any changes.  This made the pricing much higher.

A few days later, I got an email with a new offer, so I called.  No, it wasn't available, but they could price the upgrade for me using my existing casino offer!  What?  No way, this is what I was told couldn't happen.....  This agent was super helpful and nice, but the price for the balcony had now gone up an additional $500 over when I called 2 days before.

I have a call in to customer service.  I'm livid.  Customers should not be penalized because agents don't know their jobs.  It seems every time you call, it's a totally different response to the same question.

We booked a suite through RCCL two months ago for $4200 and paid in full for April 26 cruise.  Today, the price for the suite next door is $3100.  We called customer service and were told there was nothing they could do!  No onboard credit...Nothing!  Have we simply lost $1100 or should we keep trying/complaining?

Yes - I learned to call back to get a different agent.  I'm just angry that by the time I got someone on the next call, the prices increased.

I seriously called a number of times and every time I got a completely different answer.  It was taking about 15 -30 minutes to even get an agent on the line.  Then I'd have to call again.

It simply shouldn't be that way - I know, it's a pipe dream, but shouldn't agents actually know their job!  LoL

One agent was quoting me over $2,000 more than I was seeing online at that time.  And argued with me about what I was reading.  I told him to get out of his system and simply look at their webpage - he did and said, oh I see that now.  Ugh!

You will NOT get any kind of cash refund or OBC for a price drop after final payment.  Not ever.  The best you can hope for is that the cost of a high level suite has also been reduced so that you can upgrade with little or no additional $$. Have your travel agent look into upgrading you. You might end up with a nicer suite for the same money !

I checked yesterday just  for grins on pricing changes on our RC Greek Isle trip in August, lady was very helpful and rebooked the entire thing for me at the lower price. Saving me $1236.00 off the original price I booked.  Had my son call on his Honeymoon cruise in June, he had to call Expedia since his was booked that way. He saved us over $526.00 once they rebooked it and got a 200.00 on board credit.

Unfortunately, that is one of the downsides to booking last minute and then paying in full. At some point after final payment, you just have to be content with your decisions and move on.

I got upgraded from a guaranteed interior stateroom to an oceanview window cabin after final payment date for no difference in price by calling a couple of different times.  The first person told me that it was not possible to upgrade because the upgraded room type I wanted cost the same or less now.  The second person upgraded me for no additional charge (I was shocked and very happy....I was expecting to have to pay at least something).  Now, this process took about an hour on the phone between both calls but was worth it in the end for me.

UK customer:

I've just offered to pay £900 pound for an upgrade to 2 * Jnr Suit from 2 * balcony. JS has a $300 OBC per suit on at the moment,  that combined with the perks seems a good deal. The response is  for me to cancel the complete booking and rebook at the current offer.  We are passed final payment so would lose deposit and cancelation charges.

Basically RC are turning down a circa extra £400 income, I've travelled with several cruise companies  and have done this several times. I had the usual response when I asked why other nationalities can do this and got the usual, "This is our policy in the UK and I'm unaware of the policy for other countries"

I'm now at the stage where I hope this cruise is cancelled and I get my money back and will never book via RC again.
