Lol, yes, Lofts are gone! Just Junior Suites and a lonely Owners Suite left, besides lower categories.

I’ll keep stalking!!

For sure!  It's still early, things tend to open up.  Not for this coming sailing, but for the previous Symphony sailing that we took last summer, we originally booked a GS and upgraded to the loft after final payment.

Agree, that was my original dilemma, super cool room or extra space and privacy. Oh well, I can still head up to deck 17 for the Suite Lounge and Costal Kitchen on my solo mornings when everyone else is asleep. My crew likes to sleep in, unlike me! So many choices.... I really can’t wait!!!

That's where you'll find me too!  My family also doesn't usually rise before 10am.  Then they wonder why they can't get breakfast anywhere.  You would figure that after so many cruises they would get it, but they never do.  That's why it's good to have a Genie I guess lol

Due to the “bad” influence of all you regular bloggers, I have booked Star Class on Allure of the Seas (Feb. 27th, 2022.)  The price I got was a bit “unreal” for a deck eight, two bedroom Aqua suite.  Also, it seems trophies are awarded (I love trophies) for earliest start of a live blog.  I’m not a professional, like you all, but this Old Casino Woman refuses to die without some sort of trophy....so, if I start now, would I be in the lead?

AWESOME !  So glad to have you in the "Club" and I think, without  a doubt, if you officially start a blog on your trip, you WILL get the trophy for longest lead time for a live blog !

Also, welcome to the blog and we are expecting big things from you !!

You will love the Deck 8 ATS.  There is nothing like them in the entire fleet.  Unless I'm mistaken, I do believe that @Lovetocruise2002has one of the Deck 8 ATS on Allure booked for March 14, 2021 so be looking for that live blog !

...and yes, we are very bad influences...and proud of it !!

Thank you Waaaytooo for the information.  I know so much about Star class from you, Lovetocruise200, and the rest of the gang. I really need the two bedroom as my hubby and three of my adult children will be joining me.  I’ve never cruised in a Royal Caribbean Suite.  (I’m actually signed in under my husband’s account.)  For some reason this site would not recognize me, though I’ve cruised a lot more than he has. My hubby is retired Army, and is now on his third career. ?   I should be diamond status this coming cruise to Alaska in June.  I have a lot of catching up cruising to do. I’m going to test drive each suite....eventually.  When I called about suites and got room 8730 for more than half off the internet price...it was a no brainer. I’m usually the lowest level (for free drinks and an interior room) casino rate, and maybe it’s because of Covid, but half off of a two bedroom aqua suite?  The other 2 bedroom is still available so it’s worth looking into if looking for a really good price.  Once again, thank you all for being so darn nice.  Royal should be paying each of you!

We just booked a 2 bedroom ats on allure for March 2022.  I thought I got a good price but am curious about your reference to 1/2 off internet prices.  Do you mean the prices showing on rccl’s site before or after they apply discounts (ie 60% off 2nd passenger)?  Thanks in advance.

Forgive me for jumping in here.  I am not @Ferramc.  I’m guessing that @Ferramcis saying that they booked their cruise with an upgraded casino comp and the resulting price was half off the online price.  That’s about right for casino comp upgrades these days.  They used to be a bit better than 1/2 price but that’s about what they are nowadays.

Thank you for clarifying!  I ended up changing my mind about Allure after booking - cancelled hold and waiting until next week  for the 2 bedroom  ats on harmony or symphony (assuming the May 2022 Caribbean cruises are released and they go there). We were supposed to be on harmony this past May with that room and want to stay with a newer ship.

The CDC has required that all of the cruise lines cease advertising and selling cruises greater than 7 nights in length.  Since this is an 8 night cruise, they have removed it from the website.  It has NOT been cancelled [yet] and I am able to book cruise planner purchases if I were to want to do that....but they are not booking any new pax on this cruise right now.

If the >7 night ban remains, it is possible that Royal may choose to shorten this cruise to 7 nights (and increase the length of the corresponding 6 night cruise that follows to 7 nights).  IF they do that, they will have to amend the itinerary to account for that day reduction.  It is also possible that with the vaccines coming soon, the CDC will revoke their prohibition of the longer cruises.  Nobody knows what will happen at this point.  For now, it survives but is in suspended animation.

Wow.  Let's dust this one off.  It looks like this cruise actually WILL sail and they did not shortened it....and at this point it doesn't look like they will.  It was in hibernation for a VERY long time and I thought for sure it was doomed.  What they HAVE done, unfortunately, is completely re-do the itinerary which is a much less interesting itin than it was.  We are now going to Nassau, St. Thomas, St Maarten and St. Kitts.  So no more Aruba and Curacao...which completely sucks but I will just be happy to be back on a cruise, so I will make the best of it.

I am very, very disappointed that I will not be cruising with @Lovetocruise2002and her family.  We planned this one together and now we will have to go alone.  I will miss sailing with you, but we have other cruises planned together for later on, so I will just have to look forward to those !!

As most all of you already know, Dan and I are not taking the COVID injections so we will be among the unvaxxed on this cruise.  I think it will be of benefit to present this live blog from the unvaxxed perspective, providing information for any who are interested in what the unvaxxed "rules" and experiences will be.  It is NOT my intention to debate the virtues (or vices, as it were) of the injections.  I will not respond to any discussion relating to the injections or our decision not to receive them.  This is about our cruise experience and how it may differ from cruise experiences we have had in the past. I hope that respondents will respect that and allow this blog to live.  Thank you for that.

Just to be up front about everything, there are still a couple of situations that could derail (I guess I should have said "sink" LOL) this cruise for us.  In addition to not being injected, we also refuse the deep nasal swab...so if we are not able to find a PCR test that will satisfy the pre-boarding requirements, we will not be able to go.  We also need to find out for SURE that they are not mandating the deep nasal swab at the pier or onboard.  Those are questions that our Genie can answer for us (hopefully) so we are moving forward with plans to sail until we have information that would have us do otherwise.  The good news is, if we decide that we cannot cruise due to vaccination requirements/restrictions, we will get a full refund for this cruise...so it's kind of a no-lose situation for us.

Royal has made it clear that there are certain situations/locations where unvaxxed will not be welcome.  We still do not know what those places/activities are but again, our Genie will be able to help us with that information, I'm sure.  Short of not being allowed in the casino (which would also be a deal-breaker for us) we will comply without complaint.  Even if we aren't allowed off the ship at the ports of call (due to ports of entry requirements, for example) that will be a-ok with us.  We likely wouldn't get off at any of the new destinations anyway.  Once I have some intel on what restrictions will be in place, I will be sure and provide that information.

And speaking of Genies, we have not yet been contacted.  It's been so long since we sailed that I cannot remember exactly how far ahead of time they reach out !  I can't remember if it is 30 days or 60 days.  Of course, I suspect there will be many things that are different now from what they were 16 months ago, so nothing will surprise me, truly. Today is 57 days out and we still are not able to check in but I understand that many people are unable to check in for their cruises at 90 days right now.  Won't panic about that.

think this one won't be an issue for you, as long as we're talking about the same "deep" nasal swab. The one that I think of as the "deep" one is where they put the swab so far up your nose it makes you cry and think they're swabbing your brain. I had one of those in January, and boy howdy did I not like it!!!!

I have had many nasal swab tests after that, from February through April, for my two surgeries. Mix of PCR and RAPID-style tests. All were exactly the same and WAAAAY better -- nowhere near as deep and not at all painful. They only put it far enough along that you feel a tickling sensation, and likely as not you'll want to sneeze afterward. That's it. Very tolerable.

This is from a guy who had to have nasal surgery years ago to deal with a deviated septum / snoring problems, and who still has relatively narrow nasal openings. So I really do think you'll have no problem wherever you go to get a PCR test. These newer swabs are just light years better.

Yes!!! In 2022!  We'll find a way to sail together!

I had to cancel at final because at that point I truly could not see a way in which the border would be open and that my teens would be fully vaxxed, and there is no way I would sail the RLS without the girls.  Also, I have too much FCC already so that SY sailing would have put me over if I had to cancel under CWC.  However, as I write this today, I somewhat regret cancelling because as of today, the border definitely has a good chance of being open by late August, and everyone, including the girls, are fully vaxxed.  I will have to continue to pursue the RLS dream. lol

@WAAAYTOOO We may--or may not, be joining you.

We are booked on this Aug 21, in a GS. However, I booked it after the restart was announced when the costs were higher.

The original itinerary and being the frontend of a B2B2B2B (Aug 21 ~ Sept 18th) was our reasoning. As you noted, losing Aruba & Curaçao because of Labadee is a crusher.

Our advantage is we still cruise on Symphony, only starting 8-Nights later, Aug 29 in an A2, then GSs through Sept 18th. That gives us more options.

I would appreciate your well experienced opinion on my options.

If I cancel my Aug 21 GS, for a Feb 5, 2022, Allure Central Park View, cash the Aug 21 FCC, and add only $2,000 (plus travel and 2-Night Hotel), I can sail the exact current itinerary, except Dominica Republic instead of Nassau. But that is not the kicker.

I booked Feb 05 as the back end of a B2B before the restart was announced.
The frontend is the Jan 30, 2022 6-Night Star Class, Grand Panoramic. The cost between the Symphony Aug 21 8-Night Post-Restart and Allure Jan 30 6-Night Pre-Restart is that $2,000 difference after applying the FCC.

Best of all, the wife has no idea I booked the GP. It will be a surprise. She is my Queen.
Even not having the Star experience, I have a feeling I would love seeing her to receive that treatment.

I feel silly asking. Seems like the cabin upgrade and experience should be a no-brainer, even without considering the scenario of the itinerary change from Aruba & Curaçao. Problem is, I have no way to compare it.

My only prior Royal Caribbean was on Empress--in a Balcony. I have no way to compare a Star Class to Sky, let alone Symphony or Allure.

The only outside consideration is the wife's schedule. I am retired Boeing Aerospace Mgmt, so time is just time.
She is a Labor & Delivery RN, 3 years from retirement.
Saving up vacation time for retirement is nice, but--
taking an amazing "Vacay" is better.

@WAAAYTOOO, you have a lot of cruising in Star and Sky experience. Am I correct, once we get closer to the date, if everything is working toward normal, canceling the Symphony Aug 21 GS front end of a B2B2B2B, for Allure B2B Star Experience makes canceling a no-brainer?

After typing all this, I am looking at it, saying to myself, "I have to ask?"

I think you pretty much have your answer.  If you want to pamper the wife, absolutely Star Class is the way to go.

If I'm reading correctly, though, you'll be in a CP balcony for the second leg after doing the GP?  That's going to be quite a downgrade from the GP.

Holy cow.  I apologize but I couldn't follow all of that. It seems to me that you are considering converting a B4B (which would become a B3B due to cancelling the first leg 8-21-21) on SY for a B2B Star Class on AL.

If that is the scenario, then I think you have already answered your own question !  LOL  B2B Star Class would win (for me) every time.  ESPECIALLY given the awful new itinerary of the 8-21-21 SY. Of course, you are losing 2 nights with that switch but since they are both multiple leg cruises I doubt you would even miss the 2 nights.

The GPS (we were on Oasis but the suites are the same as far as I know) is the most incredible suite I have ever been in....it is massive and it is extremely convenient.  The balcony is a bit on the small side but there is a hot tub (I assume there is one on Allure, too) !  So you would have the AL GPS B2B ?  Absolutely, go for it !  I assume you already have the GPS for the 1-30-22 AL booked (or on hold) since I show that it is not available on CruisingPower.

Comparing Star to Sky ?  That's so hard to do b/c there really isn't anything like Star Class anywhere else.  First of all it is completely All Inclusive.  You basically pay for nothing unless you are inclined to drink very expensive wine or top, top, top shelf liquor.  Even then, sometimes they don't even charge the overage.  It depends on where you are and who is serving you. I have paid for a wine overage exactly once.  Then when you add the service of the Genie in, it just goes into a whole new realm.  If you really want to spoil your wife, this IS the way to do it.  Only bad thing will be that she will never want to cruise again unless she can be Star Class.  LOL

Too bad you aren't on Oasis rather than Allure.  We are in the Owner's Panoramic Suite on OA on a B3B Star Class Jan 1-9-22. 1-23-22 and 1-30-22.  We were on the 1-16-22 but it got chartered so we had to do some shifting.  Most likely we won't keep all 3 of them now....what a disappointment.  Anyway, we might have cruised together anyway if you were on Oasis !!

BTW, my husband receives a pension from Boeing (and Lockheed and General Dynamics !!).  He moved around during those early years !!

@WAAAYTOOO, you followed it quite well.

It is great to have the input of someone who has been in a Star Class GP/OP Oasis cabin.

Yes, I have the Jan 30th Allure GP reserved.
Yes, the Allure GP has the small balcony with the hot tub. The trade-off of a small, but adequate, balcony for the bedroom view looks to be a more than equal.

Wished we were on the same cruise. I always enjoy talking aerospace. Your husband did it right. To work in the aerospace field, you have to be part gypsy, traveling to the contracts as they are issued. I retired from Boeing/MDC, mother made the cores for the computer at Lockheed Compton for years, father and stepbrother retired from GE Evandale, where they built the jet engines. I was offered a job at General Dynamics. We both have a hat-trick background. We would get along just fine.

Just not sure what you wives would talk about? In fact, that could be scary. LOL

PS: Thanks for updating me on the proper acronyms B3B & B4B. That sure is a lot easier to read and type.

LOL Dan is Boeing/MDC/Douglas (which is the origin of the "bug"...which I'm sure you already know) so he made all 3 manifestations.  We ladies would just leave you gentlemen to talk shop and go find something more suitable to pass the time.... ?  There's plenty of time !!  We can find another cruise down the road where we can meet.  I love cruising with friends.

It looks like this cruise has completely disappeared from the website.  Even CruisingPower shows it as "Not Available".  Now....this could very well mean that it has reached its capacity and simply has no more rooms available, but when your cruise disappears from the website it's a bit disturbing.   As others have opined in the past for other itins, I just wish that Royal would leave it ON the website but show that it is sold out.  It sure would help with the panic reaction.

@WAAAYTOOO, some potentially bad news. Just read @Matt’s post listing the areas blocked off from unvaccinated guests, and Casino Royale and it’s bar are on that list. Hope that doesn’t end up being a deal-breaker for you, I know you and Dan typically spend a lot of time in there.

EDIT: Realizing that list is specifically for Freedom. Hopefully by the time you sail it will have been updated for Symphony.

@WAAAYTOOO  is CruisingPower only for Agents?

Also, to you, @Matt, @AshleyDillo,  or anyone,

there is a bit of discussion on 'Royal Up' on the SY Aug 21 Facebook page.

My belief is that if a passenger wins a 'Royal Up' from, for example, a Sea Class to Star Class
They keep their Sea Class perks & benefits, such as
Dinner access to Coastal Kitchen / Specialty Bottle Water / Luxury Bath Amenities
But they do not get the Royal Genie, etc.

Others seem to think if they win the cabin, they win all the perks & benefits.

Royal does not give an example in the FAQs. It just states:

A: The Royal Up upgrade does not include any additional promotions.
However, you get to keep whichever promotions you already have.

Without an example, the confusion here is the word "Promotion" since sales are promotions, etc.
If they gave an example, or at minimum, added 'Cabin Promotions', it seems like it would be clearer.

If RoyalUp continues to operate the same as it did Pre-COVID, then yes, if you win a RoyalUp into Star Class you will receive all of the perks and amenities of SC.

Your example "A: The Royal Up upgrade does not include any additional promotions.
However, you get to keep whichever promotions you already have." refers to booking promotions such as discounts, OBC offers, etc.  So you cannot get additional booking promotions via RoyalUp but you definitely CAN and WILL get all of the amenities that come with your RoyalUp upgrade.

Yes, CruisingPower is a travel agent tool. I have a limited TA status.  I can only book cruises for myself !  ...but as part of that status, I am able to access CP.

@WAAAYTOOO nailed it.  You absolutely get all the benefits of Star Class.  You get access to the Genie.  in fact if you don't find out that you won RoyalUp to Star Class before your Cruise Planner closes, when you get onboard the Genie will help get your dining and drink packages canceled if you had purchased them.

Basically the only thing you won't get is if they were offering an extra OBC for booking that specific room in the first place.

Drawbacks are if you have 2 rooms and you win RoyalUp, you can't just combine the 2 rooms into the new Star Class room and cancel the other one AND the Star Class perks will only be for those in the room that won.  However, you only have to pay your bid amount for the first two passengers.  So for example if you had a room with 4 people and won, all 4 get the Star Class privileges but you only pay the bids for 2 people.

It's a bit of a fun game thinking about it in this era of uncertainty..with folks about to CWC 48 hours before sailing..I'm sure there may be quite a few Star Class surprises throughout the fall.

Sorry for the duplication but I thought this information should be posted in this blog....it's a dup from the insurance thread.

So I spoke with another Allianz agent and he confirmed that the evacuation coverage IS covered by emergency evacuation section of the policy.  He also confirmed that the quarantine requirement would be considered part of the trip interruption coverage.

What I still do NOT know is whether I have enough coverage.  B/c of the way Royal stated the requirement, it is difficult to determine.  They lumped quarantine and evacuation into 1 $$ requirement and they are covered by 2 separate parts of the policy.  In total, I have $555,000 worth of coverage (from just 3 sections of the policy !)....so it would seem that I should have it all covered, BUT we only have $5K each under trip interruption, which would be where the quarantine would be.  Now, that's $10K worth of hotel and food money if we were to get quarantined, but it falls short of the $50K they are requiring for the combo of quarantine and medical evacuation.  My medical evacuation coverage alone is $500K.  I can't believe this wouldn't be enough !!  So, it's possible that I will have to purchase a rider to increase my trip interruption up to $50K.  I have no idea how much that would cost, but if it's reasonable, I will do it.  Still waiting on the sales agent to call me. But it seems that I have some breathing room because....

@michelle(God bless her) has confirmed that I have until 28 July to cancel my 21 August SY cruise for a cash refund.  So now I have nearly a month to figure out if (1) my insurance coverage is sufficient and (2) whether I can avoid the deep nasal swab testing.  Our Genie SHOULD have contacted us by then and I'm going to get him/her involved in vetting some of this, too.

This is what Allianz sent me today.  It is called an "Embassy Letter".

Hopefully it's not the deep nasal swab testing.  According to Sheri (CruiseTipsTV - who sailed on Adventure last week), her 11-year-old son had 4 or 5 covid tests prior to/during their sailing and none of them were the deep nasal swabs, so that bodes well, hopefully.

I believe they do not the deep nasal swab anymore for the PCR test (at least that's what happened to me in the three test I have done as par of my US travel a week ago) I think it will be deeper if it's a secondary test to eliminate false positive in an antigen test as someone describe in other thread.
