Drink package on multiple rooms question

Hi all - complete newbie here (both on the forum and on Royal Caribbean) so apologies if this is a simple asked-and-answered question. We (couple) are going on Ovation of the Seas in May with a friend of ours and her parents. As a matter of sleeping, she is going to share a cabin with her parents and we are taking our own. What complicates it is that the three of us are drinkers whereas the parents are not. So, we've assigned the three of us to one cabin and purchased the drink package for all three and the parents are assigned to room 2.

Is this going to be a problem when we get to the ship? are we able to just trade rooms or will our room keys be tied to the drink packages and cause issues? Can we just assigned ourselves as we are actually going to sleep and just explain when we check in what's going on? Help! ?

Room keys are not tied to the drink package (although the reverse is true - the drink package is tied to your SeaPass card which is also your room key).  Your friend is in your room on your cruise reservation.  He/she can stay in his/her parents cabin but will need to get an extra room key for the parents room to access it.  BUt they will have to use their original SeaPass card (the one tied to your room) to access the drink package.  Hope that makes sense.

Thanks guys! Is there a way at check in to ensure the parents get a room equipped with a sofa bed even though there’s only two assigned to it? Right now it just says Oceanview GTY.

Not until you get a room number.  Did you check the cruise planner to see if they assigned them a cabin yet?

Not assigned yet. Would there be an option to change if it gets assigned?

If it is a GTY room, yes.  If it is a RoyalUp room, no.  Of course, as you get closer and closer to the sail date, chances of there being a room to change TO decreases....but if you are in a GTY category and don't like your room assignment, they will allow you to change rooms (assuming there is availability) within the same cabin category.  Of course, Royal will always (normally) take more money from you so if you want to upgrade you can often do that as well.

Thank you, that's helpful! Is there a certain number of days out that they will start assigning? Do I get notified?

Unfortunately, no.  This is one of the big mysteries of booking with Royal Caribbean.  There is never any way to tell when they will assign.  Now with RoyalUp it's even more difficult to predict.

Unfortunately the only way to guarantee that there is a 3rd berth was to book the room for 3 in the first place.

If you find out that the parents' assigned room doesn't end up having places to sleep 3 people, just switch rooms with them.  You can go to Guest Services and get key-only cards for everyone to get into the rooms where they will sleep then just use your assigned SeaPass card for charging to your onboard account.
