xfactor
Is there an easy way to keep in touch with kids while on the ship? Kids doing they own thing and we doing our own but still keep touch with them. Or we need to purchase 4 internet packages? Thanks
Bakerette
You can all download the Royal Caribbean international app and chat for free using the app or you can purchase a multi-device Voom Internet package and then all 4 of you can send text messages or IMessage (assuming that you all have IPhones) to each other or other family members who is not on the cruise. You can also make calls using WiFi calling from your phone. Each person on your reservation who wants to use the app or iMessage and regular on text or make WiFi calls while onboard will have to connect to the ships WiFi. Brobbins246
Last I knew, the Royal app still doesn't have push notifications on chat messages, so you'll want to use another chat method that works on wifi like FB or iPhone messenger, WhatsApp, or texting if your text plan is wifi enabled. To test out your texting from home, put all cell phones that have a data plan in airplane mode (to block the cell service) and log into your home's wifi. Everyone send text messages to make sure they go thru. If they do, you can text on the ship with voom, if not you'll need an app.
JLMoran
To be clear, you don't have to get four 1-device VOOM packages. One person can get a 4-device package for significantly less (especially if you catch a sale on the Cruise Planner), and share the access with family members. The only limit is the number of devices that connect using the login that the purchaser sets up after getting on board, not the number of people. If you buy the package and find it later goes on sale for less, you can easily cancel and repurchase it to get the savings. KWong
It's a bit old school, but you could get a magnetic whiteboard and stick that on the inside of your stateroom door. Yes, it does create a bit of hassle since you have to go back to the stateroom to read/write updates, but it also costs a lot less than a 4-device VOOM. coneyraven
