NewCruisingFamily
We are a family of 4 going on our 1st ever cruise in May (kids will be 10 and 12). Besides Coco Cay, we are stopping at St. Thomas on day 4 and St. Maarten on Day 5. Any excursions you recommend for those two islands for our family? Stay on boat? Just find a beach? Thanks in advance!
MelKaps
One of my favorite excursions was the Rhino Rider Adventure in St. Maarten. You drive small motor boats to a beach and snorkel in the area before returning. Each boat ("Rider") fits 2 people, but has to be driven by an adult. It is great if you like snorkeling and want something a bit more adventurous. You can find it listed on the Cruise Planner. Check out my vlog from last year when we did the excursion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcMDyyrIYZY

Thanks in advance! At St. Maarten there is an informal foodie tour that is family-friendly (September 2019). I think it is something like A Taste of St. Maarten. You stop at a cheese store near the port and make pasta while sipping wine or juice. Then you travel to St. Martin for lunch, which is an authentic barbecue. Finally, you visit a gelato shop where you make your own flavored gelato. There is also a merry-go-round for the young at heart. Overall, the drive around the island gives you a sense of the island, the food is plenty for "lunch", and you do have time left for shopping at the port, etc. Have a great cruise! gtgtgt
On St. Maarten, our favorite excursion is Capt. Bob at Soualiga Destinations (https://www.soualigadestinations.com/). We've gone with Capt. Bob our last 3 times in St. Maarten. He is a very reliable independent excursion and just a short walk from the cruise port. You go to a couple of snorkeling sites, stop at an island that has lots of iguanas, stop near the airport to see a plane land close over your head, and beer, drinks, and lunch are provided. The kids will really like the speedboats when they open it up and go fast -- be sure to sit up front! Can't recommend him enough.
MichelleB
We went to St. Maarten last summer and rented a couple of 2 person kayaks (kids were 8 & 11) through https://www.caribbeanpaddling.com/ and headed over to Pinel Island. They also rent single kayaks and SUP if you prefer. They arranged transportation from port to/from the French side of the island where we picked up the kayaks. The kayaking was fun and not too hard, the beach was nice and complete with a bar/restaurant and restrooms.
