Thanksgiving Side to Side: Brilliance to Oasis

The din finally died down last night about 6:00. I was relieved. It was really loud and I thought “this going to be a long cruise” if this is going to be a regular thing.  But apparently it’s not. We have had peace and quiet (from outside, at least) since.

Breakfast in CK. I love love love the CK on the O class ships and I like some others, I love the setup on Allure and Oasis best b/c of the bar.

The bar overlooks Splashaway Bay instead of looking at a blank, boring wall

Dan is on a walkabout in search of Mario’s “office”. No luck so far.  I am hiding in the shade out on the pool deck.

This is our suite from the pool deck

So, if you are concerned about privacy on your balcony (meager though it is) this might not be the suite for you.  Personally, I couldn’t care less.  If someone wants to watch what I’m doing on the balcony, they are more than welcome.  I’m not that exciting.  The privacy shades (and 2 sets of drapes) keep prying eyes away from the interior.  You can see to the right of the balcony that the privacy shades are up on the bedroom.   I already shut the drapes in the bedroom, too, to keep hell’s fire  out.  The solar loading caused by the sun coming through all that glass is unbearable.  Soon I will have to close the ones in the living room as well.

We missed the CC  Meet & Mingle (9:30) but still have time to make the cattle call (Top tier event).  Not sure whether we will bother with that or not.  I did alert our Genie that we would be eligible for a crystal block on this cruise but they don’t award those in person on the big ships so not really any reason to go.  I’ll bet the Twangbot will be there !

Sorry. I should have mentioned it. I almost exclusively play Ultimate Texas Hold’Em.  It’s basically a table version of Texas Hold’Em poker where you play only against the dealer.  I had 2 3’s in my hand and the flip had the other 2 3’s.  The table minimum on Oasis is $15 which means that the least you can possibly wager is $45 and $60 if you play the hand all the way to the end. That big money for me and I almost didn’t even sit down.  The upside (for the casino) with a $15 table minimum is they collect more money from you when you fold or lose but the upside for the player when they have a $15 minimum is that when you WIN a big hand, it’s quite a nice haul. That win paid 10:1 on the blind bet ($150) and 20:1 on the trips bet ($300).  Along with the other mandatory bets I won $495 on that hand.  A $10 minimum would have netted me $330.  So, for that single moment, I was glad they had a higher minimum !

The casino was a madhouse last night and I expect it to be like that the whole week.  This cruise was on the “complimentary” list for a very long time.  Many gamblers (including me) are on this cruise on a comp.

Raye i am so glad you are winning.. Last week on Oasis I did the WORST I have ever done in any casino ever lol but I did still have fun.. Also last week the casino was not busy at all.. Glad you are enjoying Oasis so far.. Try the BBQ place I thought it was really good for what it is..

I just made it!  I didn't get notice in my cabin but heard the PA announcement a few minute before it started.

Total C&A 2,699

1,115 Gold,   431 Platinum,  273 Emerald,  520 Diamond,  320 Diamond Plus, 84 Pinnacle.  This doesn't equal 2,699 so some more Royal math on board.

Mario is up 8,414.

I won. Once. That’s not really “winning” yet.  We walked through the casino when leaving the TTE but it didn’t look like any of the tables were open yet. At least neither of the UTH tables were going. E just came back to the room.  Sorry you had.  Bad experience.  That leaves a bad taste for a long time.

We definitely will be trying the BBQ. I think we will ask Joyce to have some delivered.  I don’t really feel like going out in the hot sun. I wish it wasn’t “presauced”. I generally don’t care for BBQ sauce.  It’s almost always too sweet for me.

Unsauced I'd imagine be a simple request if everything is made fresh onboard.

One thing that might already have sauce from the cooking process would be the ribs.

@AshleyDillo know you never asked about no sauce but any insight you could give.

I knew you’d make it. We went after all.

It seems that the Aqua Theater is still going through some final tweaking so instead of hosting the event there, as is the normal procedure, they held it in the ice skating rink instead.  Bobby said that they only started performing the new Aqua Theater show 4 nights ago.  I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Normally you get a little mini-AT show at the TTE but this time we got a mini skating show.
Nice change of pace. Certainly cooler in the ice theater than the AT !

Hmmmm....I hadn’t noticed it until this morning but I see that Joyce has failed to schedule us for a Phoenix concert in the new Music Hall.  I’m going to have to remind her and get it into our schedule. Tonite is formal night, of course, and we have dinner scheduled at 150 CP and the new show in the theater (One Sky) at 8:30.

I feel the same way, it's usually too sweet. I hope you're having a lovely day!

It's funny, I haven't had a TT in the Aquatheater for a while now.  I keep getting Studio B.  Must be my fault...

I'll setup a GoFund me page and eat dinner there tonight ?

Joyce just brought us a hard copy Portside BBQ menu and she is going to place the order to be delivered in the suite.

She also confirmed tonite’s schedule.  150 Central Park at 6:00,  One Sky at 8:15 (show at 8:30) and Phoenix at 10:30 (show at 11:00).

Yesterday she said she was ordering Izumi to be delivered this afternoon but we asked her to please cancel that.  It’s just waaay too much food.  We still have food here from yesterday !  If we have BBQ now I’m already worried I won’t be hungry for dinner.  There’s no way we could sneak afternoon sushi in there, too ! I know Matt would disagree but there’s NOT always room for sushi !

Riddle me this....

What possible purpose could a “stopper” be on a bidet ?

That little “stick thing” in the back is a stopper plunger (not sure what the proper plumbarian term is).

Maybe I’ve been using it wrong all this time ! Why would you ever need to fill that bowl up with water ?

Brisket is NOT pre-sauced.  Pulled pork and burnt ends are mixed with sauce and on the food line with the sides.  The poultry gets mopped with sauce at the end after they pull it from the warmer and put it on the grill..so you can ask for the turkey leg, chicken wings, and smoked chicken not to be sauced.

I did not ask if they could do the pork or burnt ends without sauce.

So we did the BBQ. It was good but not great. For ship’s BBQ it was decent. The mac’n cheese was awful.  They use some kind of cheese whiz or something.  Yuck.  The nanner puddin’ thing was ok. Honestly, I probably wouldn’t do it again.

I had the pulled pork and Dan had the brisket.  Ashley is right-the brisket wasn’t presauced.

Ones thing’s for sure - they don’t skimp on the portions. It doesn’t look it from the pictures but those sandwiches are huge !

Having it delivered to the room was sweet !

Oh Raye you are in luck.. Do you like Brisket? If so that's no pre sauced at all.. It has a dry rub on it but not sauced.. The sauce was placed on the table so people could put al little or as much as they wanted.. The Ribs were pre sauced but the Brisket wasn't and was tasty I recommend it.. Also if you like bananas please get the Banana pudding it was sooo good. I hate Royal's desserts but I loved this one.. Since I had the dining package I went there about once a day and just ordered pudding lol. Also I am curious how your Giovanni's experience will go.. I thought it was AWFUL.. My friends and I left there so sick. Not from overeating just from the food not tasting very good.. Crunchy Risotto, cream sauce that tasted broken, my friends ordered Tuna that was full of too much garlic just not a good experience I wish they redid Giovanni's like they are doing for Allure so you will have to tell me how your experience goes.. As for the Casino yeah I was frustrated the funny thing is everyone I talked to or played with said the same thing that they just keep loosing and loosing.. I literally left the table every day with no money and I at least usually 1 day of a 7 night cruise make some money.. But I have a 3 night Navigator coming up Dec 13 so hopefully I will do better.. Keep me posted on everything and I am glad you are having such an awesome time in an awesome suite.. - Steph

Well I just read your above post after I wrote this lol.. I agree with you about the Macaroni not good.. I did enjoy 150 we went there twice.. Let me know what you think. - Steph

Today was another non-stop barrage of loud live band music.  Now....that did not stop Dan and I from taking a heavenly long nap but it never stopped all afternoon.  In fact, the music is still going strong but it’s piped music and not a live band.  Maybe they’re just on break.

Who says only Twangbot can take a great sunset shot !  Happy Dan got this one out our window.

We just got out of One Sky.  My opinion...?

It wasn’t terrible and it didn’t help that I knew virtually none of the music.

Great... seems like the consensus so far. I believe Matt thought it was also disjointed and labeled it a "skip" on his Oasis review.

I was not a fan of Blue Planet on Allure (also very disjointed in my opinion), so I'm not expecting much with this show. Not a knock on the talent of the performers, just the way they produced the show.

I can't wait to see Flight on Symphony and Columbus eventually on Harmony!

To me, it seemed like they tried to take advantage of the success of Flight (Symphony) and add a touch of Blue Planet. The result falls flat, IMO. Honestly, I don’t ever expect any kind of plot to any of these shows but it seemed very disjointed and again, the music was utterly unfamiliar.  I also agree that this is NOT the fault of the performers.  This show is just a hot mess.

However, on a positive note, we just got back from seeing Phoenix, and I cannot say enough GOOD things about that show. They were really good.  I would go back and see them again in a minute.  I am not as impressed with the Music Hall on Oasis as I was with the one on Anthem, but they did the best they could with the space they had.  It’s a sight more useful now than it was as Dazzles.

Also, a huge bit of news, Dan and I finally met the Twangbot.  He seemed very real.  Almost human-like.  A very advanced bot, indeed.  He sat with us at the concert.  It was quite an honor for us.??
