Comedy Club

We have a 20 year old and a 17 year old cruising with us over New Years. Because our youngest isn't 18 yet (one month short) we can't reserve the comedy shows for him. How does this work in practical terms ie do they check your Sea Pass for admission? How adult are the shows? Are we talking R rated or NC - 17 or X. We have booked for the three of us a 10 PM show and 7 PM show, are the shows less crude earlier in the day verse the midnight show? We also have the Key if this isn't complicated enough. What I'd love to do is send the boys one night and have DW and I go the other. We haven't cruised since our honeymoon and that was a Windjammer (GREAT TIME) and Royal is quite different. Thanks to all!

Yes, cards are swiped or scanned for admission.  No reservation on your account and no admission unless people don't show up then a few minutes before the show starts they might allow standby guests in.

Comedians vary, they do a gig on a ship then do a gig on land then go to another ship or cruise line.  Expect an adult show to have adult material so the age limit is enforced for a reason.  The early show is typically the same as the late show.  Shows are repeated because the comedy club is small so to allow more guests to see it they offer two times.  The early show typically won't be a family version if they have a age restrictions in place however some comedians interact more with the audience so one show can differ simply due to crowd interaction.

There is generally a family oriented show in the main theater.  Check out the cruise compasses from past guests to see if your ship offered a family comedian show:

I don't believe The Key will have any benefit for comedy shows although you may get a dedicated seating areas in the main theater family comedy session if there is one.

On the OOTS on Saturday. New to that ship.

Where can we book the shows? Would the Diamond Lounge attendant do it?

Best way is to grab an entertainment schedule as soon as you board and reserve everything you want using the Royal app. Not sure Diamond Lounge concierge is available at that time. If you're in a suite, the Suite concierge in the Suite Lounge might help if not busy.
