Eric Chao
hi friends first time cruiser here... we will be cruising from vancouver to hawaii and i can't afford the VOOM package so i thought i will just buy a local SIM card in vancouver and try to use it on port days. is this a good idea? Since i may just need to send some emails and check our bookings like taxi's and hotel to make sure all are in order... If this is possible, which phone company in VANCOUVER do you recommend me to buy the SIM? Since we will be there a few days before we embark thanks in advance eric
twangster
SIM cards won’t provide any data on the 5 sea days to Hawaii. It will work once you reach Hawaii but only during the day while in port. Is that your intention? If so does your cell provider offer international coverage? Skyroam has portable hotspots and SIM cards. Not certain if Vancouver coverage combined with Hawaii coverage is available. It too doesn’t work on the ship. SpeedNoodles
I'm on Verizon and just signed up for a plan that allows me to connect in Canada/Mexico for $5/day (only charged if you use it that day). So I signed up prior to the cruise and only used it the day we were in Victoria. It was pretty painless. I think other carriers have similar arrangements. twangster
If I’m not mistaken the OP is from the Southeast Asia area.
