NO SMOKING SOMETIME IN 2020?

This is all a moot point as Royal has already banned all indoor smoking on ships embarking from European ports, so obviously accommodating that demographic is not important

Smoking is Ban from the UK ports as far as I know , from Venice and Barcelona they were still allowing it (at least two month ago) the Casino was quite smoky on Rhapsody

As stated before, we all heard the impending doom of bars, restaurants and businesses who would be impacted by smoking ban. Still waiting. I do not smoke, the majority of people on a cruise do not smoke, so why must the minority rule this topic. Do you actually believe someone who is a so called big spender gambling will stop because of a cigarette. No.  Cruisers who say they will stop sailing if they can not smoke. Right. Time for royal to follow suit as they have lately to be in sync with celebrity.

The main differences between bars/Restaurants (who believed they allow smoking in Restaurants few years ago , amazing) is that the ban was done in all  places at once  , here each cruise line will be afraid to be the first one that will announce the ban and the competitors will get the 15% (and I guess much more in casino money). So to ban indoor in cruise line they will need to be coordinated.

Think if only 70% of the bars would accept the ban  , most of the smokers would go directly to the one that did not accept it ...

Totally off topic, but I"m amazed that the recent deaths of 46 vapers (is that the current number?) has lead to bans on certain vaping products and even calls to ban vaping completely.  Yet, smoking causes and has caused WAY more deaths but there's basically no movement to completely ban it.  I guess the tobacco companies benefit from a long history of acceptance (plus their powerful lobbyists).

I hope this goes into effect.  I would like to go to the casino and try my hand at the tables, but not at the risk of my clothes, hair, etc. coming out smelling like an ashtray.  I am a former smoker so I get the addiction, its a nightmare.  But, I firmly believe that there needs to be a designated area away from the main attractions of the ships.  Also it needs to be outside so the smoke can not permeate through the ship.  The smell of cigarette/cigar smoke now gives me a terrible headache.  The less it is in common areas like the casino the better.

I also think that there would not be a dip in the money taken in by the casino.  The potential loss of smokers playing would potentially be replaced by non-smoking payers.

Canada’s casinos are non-smoking by law (all provinces and territories by now, I think.)

The casinos near where I live are just as busy as ever - packed actually, all the time. 13-14 years ago, when this all came into force, many tourists on a popular trip forums website huffed and puffed and said “buh bye, Canada, won’t be back and spend another dime in your casinos”.

We said “buh bye” back, and they were replaced by others.

Not sure all ships(RCCL or industry wide) should be non-smoking compliant; I'm not a smoker myself & consider it a bad choice by those who do. However, if smoking on ships never become a banned activity, I wish certain measure would be considered, if possible.

One being better ventilation in the casino area of the ship...a much more better ventilation system I have experienced this far.

Another being creating a smoking are on the top deck of ship, maybe areas surround the exhaust stacks of ships...creating an area comparable to a sundeck, primarily for smokers...keeping the smoking area presently on ship I have cruised, away from pool area that patrons both young/old, adult/child, have to navigate through.

I'm sure their other ways, to not impede, on smokers ability, to partake, in their habit, while provide a much more conducive atmosphere for their non-smoker patrons & employees.

No smoking in the casino? So, lemme see.... many here are wanting to make the casino a place of decency, intregrity, and healthiness??? Ummm......No, never gonna happen. Casinos are all about filmflam and it is by no mistake they are located next to the “art gallery”. Those that go to the casino or a Park West art auction know exactly what dark alley they walk down.

But on more serious note: what the hell is RC going to do about legalized marijuana? With so many states allowing it. With public perception changing that it’s OK to do....how is RC going to proceed?

Smoke free casinos on the ships is coming, it’s already happening in certain jurisdictions.

Regarding legalized cannabis, as long as it is illegal at the federal level, there will nothing for the cruise lines to deal with that they aren’t already handling.

As mentioned smoking has been banned indoors in New Zealand and Australia for many years and includes cruise ships. Like many here I won't be stepping into the casinos BECAUSE of the smoking during our Harmony trip in February whereas we spent a pretty little penny on our last cruise in the casino on our last cruise out of Australia.

By keeping Sorrento's open all night long and offering nachos, Cheetos and Doritos available from room service 24 hours a day too. ?

Depending on where they are, Royal is going to follow US federal law, the laws of whatever country they are visiting, or whatever laws govern drug use in international waters.  If they ever allow marijuana use, I would fully expect it to be restricted to the smoking sections.

Smoking isn’t the only way people use marijuana anymore ........ edibles (candy), patches, creams, capsules to name just a few

On  Harmony..the non-smoking side of the casino really wasn't bad. Best out of any ship I have been on for a non-smoking side! Friends of ours who are not smokers and couldn't stand to be on the smoking side actually didn't mind the non-smoking side.....yes, you can smell it.....but there wasn't the smoke to be breathing in.

I am a fitness buff. I eat well and go to the gym 5 days a week.

I also enjoy life and believe in moderation.

I enjoy a good whiskey and a good cigar on ocassion. Cruising is one of those ocassions. I always enjoyed the concierge lounge on ships that had them. I also realize it's a bit of a niche market and allocating square footage that does not make money is a corporate no no.

I would settle for a nice spot out side, out of the wind with a nice view most any where on the ship where I could have a drink and a smoke. They have found room for water sldes, candy shops and many other things I have little interest in. Reserving a small, appropriate space for people like me should not be that hard, biased, controversial or political.

The problem is that water slides, candy shops and many other things doesn't cause cancer to others.

I certainly understand. Those concerned should simply avoid the smoking area. That is a personal choice.

A water slide may not cause cancer but according the National Institute of Health, riders have sustained lacerations (53%), contusions or abrasions (25%), fractured bones (7%), sprains (7%), fractured teeth (6%), and concussions (3%). I wont even get into candy, obesity, diabetes etc.

Pick your life style and live it.

Again, waterslides riders don't cause cancer or injuries to OTHERS that doesn't use them.

"Simply avoid the smoking area" is an oversimplification of a problem that DOES affect OTHERS that doesn't smoke.

I certainly hope they ban smoking in casino and soon! Before my April cruise would be fabulous! I’d spend more time in casino but the smoke can get to me after awhile!

I would prefer they just ban it on the ship altogether, but it won't ever happen.  I hate when I walk somewhere to be accosted by 2nd hand smoke.

It can not get much simpler. If you don't want to get run over, don't walk in traffic.

There is easily over a million square feet of space on a large cruise ship. A smoking lounge that was 1,000 square feet is 0.1% of that. A smoking lounge that is enclosed, ventilated, with doors is sealed and contained. If you walk in and complain of second hand smoke, I would say the problem is simple. Leave.

When the smoking area is placed somewhere that isn't adjacent to areas I intend to use and/or in the most efficient path from one point to another, I do just that. Unfortunately, the smoking area at the pool deck fails on both counts as does allowing smoking in the casino.

If the smoking area was confined to a closed, sealed, and contained area there would be nothing to discuss. However, the smoking areas on ships are in areas that negatively impact those who do not smoke.

I complain on every survey about the smoke in the casino. I always plan to gamble, walk in then pretty much walk right back out. It’s the people who flock there just to sit and smoke and drink. They’re not even at a table or machine. It’s awful.

My biggest complaint.  I'm not a smoker, but if you wanna smoke go ahead. I feel if your going to be in the casino, then you should be gambling.  Not just sitting there taking up space. I know it doesn't work because ships dont all have smoke lounges, but smoke in the smoke lounge, gamble in the casino!

You're lucky i'm not in charge, i would ban smoking indoors (to include the casino) and make the only place for smoking, in the aft (designated section) upper decks.  If you get caught smoking in a non-authorized location, you would be dropped off at the next port.  I'm surprised that Royal Caribbean hasn't been sued yet, by an employee that has been diagnosed with cancer from second hand smoke due to improper ventilation in the casinos.

I'd be even worse. The risk of fire is too great, I wish they would ban smoking, period. I would ban ban smoking altogether.

Same with me and my wife. We mention it on the survey with every cruise

Simple solution...have a smoking room....not in the casino..I am really surprised the cruise lines haven't done that....would be easy and cheap. Why haven't they?....

So it stands to reason, that they must WANT the smokers to smoke in the casino...why do you think that is? If you and everyone else hates smoke in there and would gamble more if they banned smoking...but they don't do it....why is that?

$$$ is the bottom line....Royal doesn't do anything that wont make them money.....that's the issue at the end of the day.

They don't care  that you don't like the smell of it or breathing it in(hello, your on a cruise ship that spews toxins into the atmosphere 24hrs a day).....

So rather than bitch about it.....come up with a solution that will satisfy Royal and yourself....till then, status quo it is..

One day I am sure  it will be smoke free inside..but it will be on Royals terms..not cause you don't like the smell of it.
