Either get some before you leave, or you can use the ATMs at the airports or in the large cities. Check with your bank and see if they have agreements with any banks there to avoid foreign transaction fees. We have an account with Bank of America, and our son was able to get Euros from BNP with no fees in Rome, Florence and a couple other smaller cities with no fee, but in the smaller cities where there was no BNP locations he did have to pay a $5 fee. I can tell you Fulton and Wells Fargo do not have any bank agreements. Wells Fargo has Euros in their banking locations, BofA you have to order in advance and pay a small fee. We're doing western med next year, and will most likely get our Euros when we arrive in Barcelona. We'll bring enough with us for the flight, assuming we'll have a stopover somewhere and we'll want to buy something in the airport. Since we have a safe in our cabin, we'll grab enough Euros for the majority of the trip then, and if needed get more after our 4th port stop if it looks like we'll be short. GregD Posted October 13, 2019 Report Share Posted October 13, 2019 Most of the airports (if not all) in Europe have currency exchange locations, so you can bring USD to change to Euros, or like other people have said, I would find a credit card with low or no foreign transactions fees and use those for most purchases. Use euros in the ports; on board you can use dollars, for instance the casino is dollars only and I wouldn’t hesitate to tip in dollars if more convenient for you. Traveler Posted October 14, 2019 Report Share Posted October 14, 2019 Greece and Italy using Euro , do not wait to change money in Europe and for sure not in Italy as money exchanger will give you very bad rates. Change or while you still in the US or check you ATM/CC rate for using it abroad. In Italy most of the places accept CC (Visa and Master card are widely accepted AE less) in Greece the big resturants and shops will accept CC. For a 7 week cruise in Europe I bring around 300-400 Euros mainly for taxi from to the airports and for street food rest CC.
