Cape Liberty Parking

Recommended Posts

We are cruising out of Cape Liberty next November. Looking at adding a day to the front of the trip to do some NYC things. I've found some websites that are dedicated to "Park, Snooze, and Cruise" or other verbiage where they list different hotels that provide you with a round trip shuttle and parking during your cruise. When I look up the room rates on the actual hotel websites they typically have their own rate option specifically for this. Most of them aren't that much better of a deal than just paying a normal hotel rate and paying the port parking.

Does anyone have experience with Cape Liberty parking/hotels/shuttle options? If so I'd like to hear about your experience.

Part of me wants to just park at the port so we don't have to wait for a shuttle after we return to go back to a hotel not necessarily in the direction of our route home. The other part of me thinks paying $160 to just park somewhere is outrageous.

My only experience was parking at Cape Liberty. About $20 a day - I want to say my bill was $119 for a 5 day trip. Very easy and I was by myself. I live fairly close (about an hour) from the port so all I can speak to is parking. Super easy and quick.

Just a heads up- the day I came back the machines were down and many of us (who didn't bring cash) had to wait outside for over an hour until the machines were back online.

Our next cruise is 8 nights (9 days) putting us at either $160 or $180 depending on how they charge. Just hate spending that on parking instead of an extra excursion or my inevitable casino losses ?

I'm one of the most impatient people - which is why we were leaning towards paying the $160-$180 to park at the port - rather than having to wait on a shuttle. Knowing we may end up stuck waiting around even having parked at the port makes the decision that much harder

Sorry! This was a random occurrence...only sharing to say maybe have cash on you. You walk right off of the ship to your car. It's very simple.

We used way.com and are parking at the Hilton Newark for something ridiculous like $6-7 a day (plus taxes and I think a fee or two) but for 7 days it's under $90.  Maybe you can stay at a different hotel, then move your car there to park.  Or just stay there, but I don't know if you can get the same parking rate if you're a guest.  They do NOT offer a shuttle to the port, but we're just going to grab an Uber.  Ours is a repo so we're flying back to Newark and they will offer us a free airport shuttle back to the hotel when we get in.  It was way less than any of the other options I looked at.

When we went on Anthem this past April, we booked a stay/park/cruise package through Trinity Reservations and stayed at the Ramada on Frontage Road in Newark.  Total price for room and parking was $218.00 (2 people/8 days of parking).  Entire hotel property was fenced with gate to let you in and out.  Parking lot was well lit.  The shuttle got us back and forth to the port and we were the only passengers on each ride.  Hotel was in good shape and the full serve restaurant/bar inside served good food and was reasonably priced for the area.  There was also a small cafe area for quicker meals/drinks.  I would stay at this hotel again.  (Had I known that the shuttle didn't have an EZ-Pass for the tolls, I would have brought mine from my car to save a couple of minutes.)

We weren't looking to go into NYC the day before the cruise, but Trinity might have some other hotels that have shuttles/options available to help you get to the city.

I know many people from CT/update NY/MA and other point north/east drive 3+/- hours to Cape Liberty the morning of the cruise, but I don't think I ever would.  I drive in the NYC/Northern NJ area all year long and know the main/alternate roads very well.  I also know that when things go wrong on those roads that it is a nightmare.  That is not how I want to start embarkation day.

If I was driving to Cape Liberty from the south or west, I would consider staying about an hour out at a cheap hotel and actually parking at the port.  I think the roads from the south/west are easier to navigate even on embarkation day.  The cost/benefit analysis in this case is a wash imho.

I know we give up some time having to use a shuttle, but it works for us.   Trinity worked out well enough at Cape Liberty that we booked a park/stay/cruise package for our cruise out of Baltimore in January.  We will mosey down I-95 the day before and stay at the hotel.  Total cost for this park/stay option is less than parking at the port.  I will get on a shuttle to pay less.

We sailed out of there this April, IMHO you would be SO much better just parking at the port.  It was a absolutely wonderful experience!  We got there between 10-11 and there was a line to wait to pull up to the porters and drop off our luggage.  We waited maybe 10-15 minutes in order to drop off our luggage with the porters, once we pulled up I started the stopwatch and it was LITERALLY less than 15 minutes from the time I pulled up and opened the door until we were onboard the ship.  On disembarkation we were off in no time and on our way in maybe another 15 minutes.  The parking garage is maybe 2-300 yards away from the terminal and they guarantee parking.  The process was absolutely painless and very fast, fast enough that I was completely impressed with how fast everything happened!  I know it possibly may be more expensive to park at the port but it is well worth the convenience!

We parked at our port for the cruise we just returned from and had a similar experience - it really was the most convenient parking. But our parking for our Fort Lauderdale was $60 cheaper than what the Cape Liberty parking will be so I figured we would weigh the options.

Guess we need to just start saving up some extra spending money to cover for it!

I am not sure of the surrounding area, but my wife is from PA, and , she was VERY picky when it came to the hotel that we stayed in up there. She was not happy with us leaving the car anywhere near there so I reluctantly listened (yes, I am a cheapskate when it comes to certain things!!?)  and was looking at another place for parking but given the ease of our experience I would say that it was money well spent!  There is other parking available near there but if it is not a parking garage or a secured lot I would not advise it to ANYONE.  The area is under renovation but very industrial, therefore there is a lot of room for mischief, and there are not a lot of areas near the port for parking or hotels.
