https://www.hotelgaudibarcelona.com/en/   Right in the heart of Barcelona you can admire the fascinating architecture of the Palau Güell by Gaudí, and just opposite lies the Hotel Gaudí, an original 3-star hotel with all amenities, only 100 metres from Las Ramblas. The Hotel Gaudí, which has been welcoming guests since 1964, offers stylish rooms, some of them decorated in Art Nouveau style to emulate Gaudí himself. From many of its rooms and its magnificent sun terrace you can enjoy exclusive views of the chimneys of Gaudí’s Palau Güell, as well as incredible panoramic vistas of the entire city, Port Vell, the mountain of Montjuïc and the Gothic quarter  Not too expensive and in a prime location if you are interested in exploring.breakfast is included in the price

We stayed at the Hotel Vasanta last year when we cruised the Mediterranean.  It was a basic hotel that was reasonably priced and the guy at the desk was excellent and friendly.  We did take a taxi to the stadium and walked to other areas in Barcelona.  I remember seeing La Sagrada Familia, Las Ramblas, The Gothic Area, and a park within walking distance.

We had a car service for the trip to the port but we happened to be there when the taxis went on strike so the car service went on strike in support (and never notified us).  The guy at the hotel warned us and helped us figure out the best solution considering the circumstances.  We ended up walking a few blocks to the metro and then walked a few from the metro stop near the port.  It all worked out but that was not fun with the luggage.  The good news is that the hotel was not that far from the transportation :-)

I hope this is helpful and happy sailing.

Motel One is a great German chain, and I just stayed at this hotel before boarding in Barcelona in Sept.  Great clean hotel near all the attractions, safe area lots of restaurants within walking distance.  There is a taxi lot on the corner of the hotel.  I believe it was 19 euros to the terminal.  From the airport to Motel One it was approximately 23 euros.  Great roof top bar for in the evenings, and the lobby bar is great as well.

Many thanks for the suggestions and travel to the port.  So looking forward to this trip!

Cheers!

Be sure the hotel you select has a safe for valuables.  You don't want to lose your passport to a pickpocket, which are abundant at Barcelona tourist sites.

We have stayed at the Hotel Lleo, which is near the Ramblas, and the Ibis Sagrada Familia, which is (unsurprisingly) near the Sagrada Familia. Would have no hesitation in recommending either. At both the front desk agent phoned for a taxi for us when we were ready to go to the port.
