Only 1 Member Reward point for 7 day cruise?

Recommended Posts

We are 4 points away from Diamond and have a 13 day cruise coming up. I was looking at past cruises on the RCI site. Our first RCI cruise was March, 2008 Any thoughts on why we only got 1 point for it? There must be a logical reason for this, but it looks like we should already be Diamond.

When the system changed to points per night rather than points per cruise, you one point from 2008 became eight (7 for the "typical" cruise plus an extra point for up to three total cruises).

Your status accumulation reflects this even though it still shows up "wrong" in your previous cruises page.

They won't change it for you though.

I am 4 points away from next level and noticed that a 5 night cruise I took in the early 2000 was only showing as 1 point.  I mentioned when I was on the phone with a casino rep, they called C&A to try and get my total recalculated and were told they would only fix/recalc issues from cruises within the last 12 months.

You are right! Thanks!

I believe that you were misinformed by the casino rep.  I would recommend that you call C&A and ask for an audit.  They did one on the phone with me a while back.  I found them to be very forthcoming about conversions from the "old" process.

They calculated cruise points for all of the "old" cruises using some sort of conversion (the details of which escape my memory).  As I recall, they actually were very generous with the points conversion for the old cruises.

At any rate, Dan and I have cruised on every single Royal cruise together (I have a few "extra" cruises that he did not go on) so our points should have been identical, but somehow, he had 7 more points than I did.  I called and asked them to do an "audit" which they did and at that time they explained to me how they converted those old 1-point-per-cruise points.  They never could figure out why Dan had more points than I did but the guy at C&A just gave me the extra 7 points and called it a day.

Wait, so are you saying that even though it reflects only 1 point for the old cruises they will recalculate back to 7 points for an old 7-night cruise if you talk to the right person?  Or am I not understanding (cuz that would be a huge difference).

With mine, they automatically recalculated. When I added up all the points using 7 points instead of 1, it comes out the the number of points we have been credited for.

This is how they did the calculations when they switched from credits to points. Credit: a host on CC.

"Prior to January 2011, there were no cruise points.  Each cruise was one credit, with an extra credit for a JS (or better) stateroom and an extra credit for cruises of 12 nights or longer.  So you could earn 3 credits per cruise.

Credits were converted into cruise points in Jan 2011 using this formula:

If credits were 1-4, points = credits * 7 + 1

If credits were 5-7, points = credits * 7 + 3

If credits were > 7, points = credits * 7 + 13"

I checked against my own cruise history and the numbers match up.

Agreed.  This was what happened to us too.

We had a similar issue based on the "plan conversion" that has previously been explained.  Our account was first adjusted up one point and then readjusted down one point, both after "audits".   Our first cruise was only 5 days, and yours was 7, so it is possible that when they converted plans you were due an extra point.   After we lost a point, we stopped asking for the logic behind the plan conversion adjustment.  Good luck, and enjoy your cruise.

Did you ever get it fixed up?  I also noticed that our first 7 day cruise in 2010 we only received 1 point instead of 7.   I have emailed RCCL but still no response.

2010 was under the OLD points system when an entire cruise was only worth 1 "credit" instead of 1 point per night.

With the conversion to the new points system in 2011, your 2010 cruise is now worth 8 points. (1 for the cruise, 7 for the number of nights)

This total should be reflected in your total on your account page.

The individual cruise will show as 1 point in past cruises but is very likely to be properly credited in your points total. We had three cruises under the old system and they show as one point each on the past cruises page but we have 22 points (3x7 plus the random 1 point they added) for those included in our total points.

I’m in the same “boat” with some of you. I just emailed Crown & Anchor and asked for an audit to correct my points.
I’m currently sitting at 50 for 8 cruises (IKR!). 2 of my earliest cruises reflect the old system 1 point. Both Those cruises are for 7 days each.
I think I’m at Emerald; 56-58 points depending on the conversion process. But, my official status shows Platinum at 50.
I’d like to see my loyalty rewarded, too. I’ll post an update once I hear back. I already have my next cruise booked for Sept’23.

I did what you did; no response (I gave them up to a month). I called RC, asked to be transferred to Crown & Anchor desk (and given their direct number). I spoke with a CSR there and she was able to get my account corrected.  You’ll get all kinds of different responses about the “great conversion” from the CSR on the RC regular line. Ship your frustration and call in to C&A. Get them to transfer you if you call. They WILL give you the direct number. I wrote it down but later discarded after my account was updated. After 8 (7 day cruises) I have 57 points (1 phantom pt). Hope this helps you get your account updated.
