Interesting.  The Royal app has Quantum in Singapore on March 8 - 13 then Los Angeles on Mar 9 - 13 with Catalina Island listed as the next port.

March 8 - 12 Singapore
March 9 - 13 Los Angeles next port Catalina
March 13 - 18 Singapore
March 16 - 20 Los Angeles next port Catalina
March 18 - 22 Singapore
March 20 - 23 Los Angeles next port Ensenada
March 22 - 27 Singapore
March 23 - 27  Los Angeles next port Catalina
March 27 - 30 Singapore
March 30 - Apr 3  Los Angeles next port Catalina
Mar 31 - Apr 3 Singapore
Apr 3 - 6 Los Angeles next port Ensenada

I think the Singapore listings are the original cruises but the Los Angeles ones?  Who knows?

It looks like they're thinking about getting Quantum out of Asia for this March. Don't blame them, but wouldn't it be hard to fill sailings this close in?

I'm not looking at the app, just on Royal home page...they are still showing Quantum in the Asian market throughout the remaining year....my question, because I see no indication of changes to their itinerary, why do you think Royal is considering moving out of the Asian market, besides the circumstances with the Coronavirus...Royal still seem to be content to maintain current scheduling throughout March & April 2020?

Voyager in 2021 has long been all but announced by Royal.  I suspect the interim shipyard visit they have planned for Voyager is to install the interface to accept shore power, a new requirement for ships in CA.  That's not a simple task as the power on a ship is a closed system that was never intended to be routinely switched over to shore power.

According to the press release she's in China. POLA had her from June-Dec 2021 Catalina has her July-Sept 2021 Hawaii has her June 2021 Royals has her in China.

Voyager Returns to China
Voyager will return to fanfare in Shanghai for summer 2021 with 4- and 5-night Japan itineraries. The ship, transformed following a $97 million amplification, touts a thrilling combination of experiences and amenities that make for an unforgettable family vacation. From The Perfect Storm duo of racer waterslides to the reinvigorated Vitality Spa and redesigned kids and teens spaces, Voyager will offer the standout family summer vacation in the region

I am just wondering. Would quantum have to get shore power if she wants to sail out of LA?

China will require cruise ships to use shore power in 2021. They may have installed it on her recent dry dock.

I was thinking about that.  It's possible they did Quantum in her dry dock.  I doubt that but it's possible.

There are also exceptions made on some basis.  If a ship isn't permanently home ported for example.  Millennium is supposed to be coming to CA for first responder cruises.  Was they adapted to accept shore power?

It's an evolving situation changing by the day.   The news of the Westerdam passenger debarking with CV this weekend will cause a ripple effect and possibly more changes by the time Monday is here.  Royal has already warned the stock markets of what impact would be if they have to remain out of Asia through April so they are looking at this carefully with an understanding that it's a fluid situation.  If more Asian ports close to cruise ships that could force Royal into action.

Ok, Thanks....didn't realize Royal addressed a possible forecast of their plans, if the circumstances continue to remain as is

If they are forced to remain out of Asia through April they can't have their ships empty that long.  They will move them somewhere and try to recover some money through cheap cruises and casino comps.

That last statement by Fain is telling...that may be common across the cruise industry as a whole, given financial reports of household disposable capital has been trending downward.

I'm just basing my speculation off the app overlap for Quantum that Twangster posted about. And maybe a little wishful thinking. Five day runs out of Los Angeles to Catalina and Ensenada over Spring Break at a REALLY good price might work into my plans very well.

The "virtual" Quantum CA itineraries are currently a combination of 3 and 4 night.  Much like Carnival's west coast 3/4 itineraries, the 3 night does Ensenada while the 4 night does Catalina and Ensenada.

until the ship to shore power situation is addressed there will be no "ongoing" Royal presence in California

All new ships are being built this way and some are being retrofitted during their 5 year dry docks.

California isn't the only area imposing this requirement for the future.

I understand that, but the fact remains Royal has FAR more ships non compliant than they do compliant. I have not heard one verifiable instance of a Royal ship being upgraded at dry dock.

Several port schedule have indicated a possible return to California. It’s possible they plan to retrofit the ship to accept shore power or have come up with a alternative technology to comply with the regulation.

We never will.  Royal doesn't make public what it does under the covers in dry docks.  Neither does Carnival yet they have old ships porting in Long Beach constantly.

Until a ship docks and someone documents shore power being connected we won't know.

Celebrity from LA in 2022!

I've never been on Celebrity, although I've only heard great things about them I've also heard the majority of their customers are a bit older than those on Royal Caribbean, NCL, and/or MSC.  Those are the only cruise lines I've ever been on.  Although I would love to cruise the Mexican Riviera, I'm not sure if Celebrity Cruises is right fit, how are they compared to the 3 cruise lines I've been on?  Also if Celebrity is going back is their any chance we might see RC home port a ship in 2023 at either Long Beach or San Diego?

I'm not sure pegging Celebrity as targeting an older crowd is completely accurate at least in contrast to Holland America.

Royal targets family and multigenerational cruisers.  Celebrity targets a more upscale audience who isn't looking for zip lines and ice skating rinks.  There will be some children but not nearly as many as Royal.  Cruisers without children, cruisers who want a slightly more refined experience without spending true luxury rates.  There are plenty of 30's type working professional cruisers who just want something a little more upscale over the family oriented experience.

Small things like not having to check out towels in your name because there is less chance guests will take them home.  Less likely a guy in a muscle shirt will crash the MDR at dinner sort of thing.

There may be a slightly older crowd but more so because that is the demographic more likely looking to spend a little bit more for an elevated upscale experience.  However it isn't a silver hair cruise experience.

Thank you for your response I will have to check out Celebrity because I for sure want to do a Mexican Riviera cruise as well as the 15 night South America cruise that leaves out of Buenos Aires and ends in San Antonio, Chile.  I've been hoping Royal Caribbean would add these do itineraries to their line up but I guess we will just have to get on Celebrity.

November and December both show a 7-night cruises based on that port schedule

Where on the port schedule are you seeing the 7-night cruises.  I'm only seeing 3/4-night cruises which is great, I've been waiting for years for Royal to return to Los Angeles and Navigator of the Seas is a great ship.  I think my husband and I can squeeze in a 4 nighter after our 9 night Odyssey cruise and still make it home in time for Thanksgiving dinner.

If Navigator can't use the Panama Canal as rumored the next shortest route from Miami to Los Angeles is around South America.  That's around 13,000 NM.  They aren't going to run that at top speed, the fuel bill would be insane.  An economical speed would take between 45 and 60 days.

In order to be in California for an October start would require leaving Miami at the end of August to mid-September which is right when the restart could see high demand for short FL based cruises.

Will they pull Navigator out of Florida this summer and cancel all those cruises?  Or do they delay California?  Only time will tell.

Why exactly can't the Navigator use the Panama Canal?
