mcoler18
Who still goes the whole hog in regards to dressing up? There is going to be 11 of us on our upcoming cruise and all 4 of us men are wearing black tie for at least the first formal night and the ladies and my 2 little girls will be wearing nice dresses. Is this uncommon these days? Its been about 7 years since I was last on a cruise. kittysoul
sabarwolf
My husband and I are planning to dress up for our formal nights aboard ship. He bought us new tuxedos for our anniversary. As many folks here will tell you, it's not required (polos/collared shirts and khakis are perfectly acceptable), but hey, it's fun to get all fancy. kittysoul
mcoler18
Thats what we thought. I dont actually own a dinner suit so need to get one but thought it would be nice to go all out for the night. kittysoul
ellcee
There are a ton of posts on this topic. It's really everyone's personal decision. I love when people dress up. I love seeing people at their best and the time it took to put themselves together. kittysoul
Matt
We definitely do. I'll wear a suit and wife will opt for a full dress. ChessE4

Zacharius
Absolutely no. I get dressed up on a regular basis, as does my wife. No desire to do it on vacation. WAAAYTOOO
CruiseGus
We are those polo's and khakis guys every one refers to, other than my wedding years ago, dressing up mean wearing a Cubs, Cardinals, or Hawkeye polo. DW wife wears a sun dress (at least that what i think they call them)

Is this uncommon these days? Its been about 7 years since I was last on a cruise. We follow Matt's approach; I wear a suit (no tux anymore) and my wife wears a nice dress ensemble. At our age, it is one of the pleasures of a cruise, along with ballroom dancing and listening to nice music. A lot of people dress up, and many adopt a "smart casual" or "country club" approach, which has been explained in other posts. If you do dress up, you'll have lots of company. If you don't want to wear a suit, you'll have lots of company. Whatever you choose, you should have a lot of fun!
Fuzzywuzzy
Last week on "formal" night I wore my usual: Button down lightweight light blue shirt, nautical themed thrift shop tie, khakis and boat shoes. The wife looks great in whatever she wears so that is easy for her. I was one of the best dressed along with those half a dozen or so who had on a suit or sportcoat. What was weird was this combo: Shorts with a polo shirt, or long pants with a t-shirt. But no shorts with a t-shirt. Bottom line: Adventure OTS deems jeans and an AC/DC t -shirt to be formal wear. Plus it's only a "suggested" dress code anyway.
Jolly Ogre
Oh? Are they paying me to dress up?? No? Well then they are lucky I put on a polo and dockers. I am on VACATION! Cruiser2020, Fuzzywuzzy and WAAAYTOOO

MelissaM
My 7 yr old son is pumped for formal night, we got him the cutest bowtie. I think it's fun to get dressed up for at least one night on the cruise. WAAAYTOOO

Great deals there on tuxes, though you will need measurements and likely have (someone) to do some hemming.
