Star Class Embarkation Lunch

Recommended Posts

We sail in star class for the first time and my family and I were considering lunch options for embarkation day.  Our first thought was Chops but I have recently learned all about the private lunch for people who bought The Key.  I am actually not a huge fan of CK lunch, so we would rather not go there.  What are some other options?  Could we arrange Chops lunch in our room?  What restaurants are open for lunch?  My only reserve about eating in our room is that we have the 4 bedroom villa, so I wouldn’t want to assume it would be cleaned so quickly.  We are driving and expect to arrive 11:30 or so.

Another thought was to go to Vintages.  Are the tapas included with Star Class.

Which ship?

Not much as far as specialty goes is open for lunch on day 1.

If it’s HM: probably Sabor, Johnny rockets, or Chops/Jamie’s. I can’t remember if Vintages was open.

If it’s SY: the only specialty open last week was Playmakers, Johnny rockets, Vintages, and Jamie’s.

I wonder with the Villa if ordering lunch for the room would be more convenient for so many people?

Let me know what you decide because we have the Villa too next year and I was wondering the same thing. And we’ll have 14.

We are on the Symphony.  We have 8 people traveling with us.  It’s my parents, my grandma, my husband our two kids (D 3 and S 6) and my brother.  Bare minimum to have this room!  Lol.  My goal is to not ever step foot in the windjammer.

What are the the chances of the room being ready at 12:00?  Is it something we can request from the Genie?

Star class rooms are made a priority. They do not follow the 1pm time frame. From what I understand, the goal is always to get SC guests into their rooms upon embarkation. I can tell you that for us, when we boarded at 11:30am for HM, our room was already ready. Our loft attendant later told us that is the first room they do once guests leave.

From what I have heard from other SC cruisers, they have had similar experiences. The only ship where I have heard of them not being ready yet was Anthem.

I would think that 12pm is reasonable.

Tagging @CGTLH and @AshleyDillo because they did star class on SY.

Can’t wait to hear about your experience in the Villa. We just re-priced ours with KSF to make it around $1000pp. It’s was such a great deal!

@Lovetocruise2002 Summon successful

In our case the room was ready when getting onboard once boarding was allowed. One caveat however was the sailing prior was a special sailing and I don't believe the room was used other than for show during that sailing. For the most part I'm sure getting on at noon and going directly to the room shouldn't be of an issue.

Will also back up @Lovetocruise2002 comment about Anthem. On that sailing we were directed up to CK for lunch, think @WAAAYTOOO had a diffrent Anthem experience.

I remember when we boarded Symphony it was probably 10:30 or so and we were escorted on the ship along with another one of our Genie's Star Class rooms.  We were taken immediately to our room and then our Genie took the other party to their room which was a floor up from ours.  We didn't ask for anything special for lunch that day as we had decided just to do Playmakers since it was new and we wanted to try it and it was open early enough.

It was a world of difference from our Anthem SC cruise where everything we tried to suggest at first was turned down.  We weren't allowed to go to our room as it wasn't ready when we boarded around 10:30 and we had asked about getting food from a specialty restaurant and was told it was CK for lunch.  CK wasn't even open for service when we were taken there and we had to wait for them to open.

The chance of your room being ready at noon is nearly 100%. I wouldn’t even worry about that.  As others have said, the SC rooms are the top priority as immediate occupancy is one of the SC perks.

I agree that Chops is probably no longer the first choice for embarkation lunch....especially with a big party. CK is not a bad choice but it’s not the kind of WOW Start to the SC experience that you’re really looking for.

As long as you don’t plan on eating before noon, there is no reason why you couldn’t have lunch catered in your suite.  Just remember that in-Suite catering is only available during regular restaurant operating hours regardless of what day it is.  The nice thing about having lunch catered on boarding day is that you can take the time to eat and unpack kinda simultaneously. I am never really relaxed until I have unpacked. Eating lunch “out” only delays unpacking unless you’re eating to pass the time until your room is ready.

@Lovetocruise2002 my hope is that I can do a blog like yours.  I know it won't be as fancy, but I can give a solid effort!  But have no fear, I will take tons of photos of the entire suite!  My family already knows there are people who want to see it before all of our stuff is thrown about!  If you have any special requests, just let me know.  We sail November 30, 2019.  Ahh...111 days to go!!

Does Tapas at Vintages come with SC?

I have never been to Vintages, with or without star class (well unless you count that time on Anthem when @Matt corrupted me), but I have heard from other star class cruisers that it is included.

And I already “suggested” to my family that they go wait in the suite lounge, perhaps get a run down from the Genie on star class, while hubby and I got take pics. ?
