Luggage Tags

Getting excited now that I can print my luggage tags. 46 days to go!!!!

I am using the luggage tag holders from amazon,  my question is can I just cut out the tags and put them in? The instructions say "FOLD -- DO NOT CUT", I assume that is if you are using just regular paper so they don't tear easily.

Thanks in advance for your response!

I find it easier to slide them in without cutting them and going through the motions of folding them.

The clear vinyl tends to stick together and makes it harder to slide the thinner cut tags in.

After I cut the tags I slip the scissors into the tag holder and then slide the tag along the scissors. The vinyl clings together so having something solid to slide the tag along makes it much easier.

I always cut them because YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO, ROYAL.

.... actually I just think it's easier to slide them in without all the extra paper but that might just be me or just the variety of holders I have. I think it says not to cut so that it's a little thicker when they're folded and less easy to tear off the bags if they're not in the holder.

Newbie here - do i need to invest in these holders? Are they just for when they take your bag at the port so they get dropped to the right stateroom? thanks!

The tags are as you said just for when they take your bags at the port so they can deliver them to your stateroom.

You do NOT need to invest in the holders.  If you cruise often you may find it more convenient..but you definitely aren't required to purchase them.  Heck, you don't even to print the tags at all since the porters can write them up for you at port if needed.

If you don't use holders then follow the directions on the tags to fold them appropriately.  You may also want to consider using packing tape to laminate them before stapling them around your luggage handle just to make them even more reinforced and less likely to fall off.

Have to pimp one of my favorite utilities: Tag Tool

http://www3.zansstuff.com/luggage-tags

This utility will take your luggage tag document and convert the single strip in to four strips that can be cut out. Bonus you can also take that sheet and use the utility to convert in to a two page document for printers that support the duplex (print on both sides) feature. That would give you 8 individual dual sided tags once cut out.

Another great use for the tag holders is to label your bag with your name/address if you forgot to bring a tag with that info on it for checked bags when flying.  We have used them for this purpose multiple times for last minute realizations. Just write the info on either the back of another piece of paper and fold it or on a blank paper. Works super well.

Even though we cruise a lot, I'm old school and do the fold thing.  I'm not a fan of stuff that one day I'll have to add to landfills.

Make sure you don't attach them until after your flight, though. I know someone who attached them, thinking all ready to go, and they all got ripped off by the airlines and then they had to wait for the porters to write them up when dropping off at the port.

We fold them at home,  then after removing the airline tags ask at the hotel front desk for their stapler to attach the cruise tags.  Sometimes we'll cover with packing tape, but then that loses the biodegradability of the luggage tag, so we try not to.

Never put your address on the tags. Name and phone number only.  Reason being:  Oh look they are going on a cruise for a week. We have their address. Lets pay that house a visit.  Or posting on Facebook. Look we are boarding the ship.  See you in a week or so.  Don`t make a crooks life easy.

I agree I always make 4 at a time.

Just a tip from an "OLD" cruiser.  I have the RCCL Tag holders and found that in Hot/Humid climates the printed tag ink tends to stick inside the holder.  After messing up a few of them I now use clear package sealing tape on the printed tags and then cut them from the page and slide them into the Tag holders. And yes,  I cruise enough to get the tags and make them useful.

We bought both size tag holders as we still do multiple cruise lines (benefits of the casino on land). We've taken kid's families and friends and they have always helped keep all the luggage in order without losing any tags (had a paper one fall off one before). Would recommend if you cruise often.
