Lakew92
I have been seeing some posts about charges during the cruise. Could someone explain what those could be? We pre paid gratuities and purchased the drink packages and a shore excursion, what kind of charges could we be expecting in addition on the cruise? Is is this why they want us to link a credit card during check in? I just marked us down for cash because I don’t think we should accrue any additional charges. Unless I am missing something... first timer here.
Sh2738
Yes so if you prepaid gratuities already then any onboard charges would be for things not covered. Such as any onboard activities that cost money like bingo, casino, etc. Any room service charges, charges for dining not free or booked in advance, beverages not covered under the package, additional tips beyond the basic that you might want to leave, on board purchases from shops, etc. It all depends on what you are planning to do on the ship to estimate if you should have any onboard charges. Happy Cruising. Lakew92

Happy Cruising. Also if you go to the spa and did not pre purchase any spa treatments and booked onboard the amount of the spa treatment would be charged to your onboard expense account. Agree with what @Sh2738said about things not free or booked in advance, beverages not covered under the package, & additional tips and other charges made onboard. To elaborate on @Sh2738 's comments, we have found that we might purchase a sea pass holder or souvenir pen, order an espresso drink or diet coke, or discovered we lost a pair of sunglasses and taken advantage of a ship store sale. Then there is premium ice cream or a cheap T-shirt you buy when everything else is dirty. A cash account is fine but requires a visit to Guest Services, which is usually busy Day 1. AnnetteJackson
Just to add - i would check your account a few times during your cruise. I have been on cruises where mistakes were made and I was charged for things that were not mine. Its a lot of people on a ship- things happen. You will be able to check your account on your TV in the room. They are great about fixing things at Guest Services. Cash Account - just know that requires you to go to the desk to close that out at the end of the cruise. I have seen people stopped on their way off the ship because they did not close their accounts out, or there were outstanding charges. I use a card for this, but typically do not have any charges on it - just easier than going to the desk on the last day of the cruise when the line is HUGE RWDW1204, mom2mybugs and sk8erguy1978
Atlantix2000
I think I should add that it IS possible to charge nothing to your account over the course of a cruise (as long as you've pre-paid gratuities). But even if with a zero balance, you'll still have an account, either cash or credit. KristiZ

If you're able to use a credit card it will simplify your debarkation whether you buy anything or not. Before the drink package days I'd have a pretty nice looking bill so, one thing I've done is put a little of my unused/not lost/won gambling money (always cash) towards my account that was less than the total balance. Just because you use a credit card doesn't mean cash is no longer an option.
