Port Everglades lodging

We are looking to do our first cruise out of Port Everglades.  Being from Central Florida I want to drive down the day prior to embarkation and stay close to the port. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel that is close?  We would like to be able to keep our car there and shuttle to the port.  Breakfast would be a bonus as well.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!

We are going on the Allure in March and plan to stay at the Hampton Inn Airport North Cruiseport.  It has a shuttle and breakfast, but the downside is we have never stayed there before.  The reason being, we aren't much more experienced than you, it will be our second cruise out of Port Everglades.

I can't speak from experience either, we're going for first time next month and staying at the Embassy. Its a nice hotel by our standards, we figured if we are getting gouged we might as well pay a bit extra and get a nice place.

Lauderdale hotels are expensive! They all tend to offer shuttles from the airport and to the ship, which is good, but still pricey IMO.

Since your driving I'd look into the option of staying a bit out of town to save on money. You might save enough to warrant paying for parking at port.

I've used Embassy on 17th, They do park-n-cruise (the number of spaces is limited).  Did Taxi.

I've used Hyatt Pier 66 on 17th, They do park-n-cruise.  Shuttle to pier included.

I've used the LaQuinta down on 26th, they do park-n-cruise (I think they still do).  Fee for shuttle to pier.

I've used the Comfort Inn on US1 between 17th and 18th with park-n-cruise, but I would not recommend it.  Did Taxi.

Hilton Marina on 17th does park-n-cruise, never used them but I know they limit the number.

My next sailing from FLL will be at the Holiday Inn Express on 17th.  Park-n-cruise confirmed, but they do limit the number as well.  Will taxi to pier.

Great stuff, thank you for sharing.  You neglected to mention which hotel has the best bacon. ;)

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. No shuttle from the airport, no shuttle to the port and extremely overpriced rooms. Sound like something you'd be interested in ?

Sounds like a super deal!  :P

We just like the place, Steph.  Of course, being a casino is the biggest draw.  I like the fact that I can gamble until all hours and then just scoot on upstairs to my room.  I am just spoiled...I do NOT want to have to get into and out of a car...and we never have a car anyway since we have to fly.

Just as much as the casino itself, I love the area outside (known as Seminole Paradise) with the restaurants, shops and outdoor entertainment.

Since I spend most of my time playing poker, I really enjoy the Hard Rock's poker room.  Only thing about that place is that it is always FREEZING !  I have never been there when it wasn't so cold I had to wear a coat or a sweater.

When I first started going there (years ago) I was a smoker so I loved going there so I could smoke in the casino.  All of the Florida casinos are non-smoking which kept me OUT of them.  Even though I no longer smoke, I still enjoy going there.  It's a first class establishment and I always enjoy it.  It is pricey though.  I will concede that point, easily.

I live about 15-20 min away from the Casino so I go there frequently to gamble myself. I also enjoy the poker room.. I am a beginner at poker but really enjoy it so the fact that they have "Limit" games works well for me. I have stayed in the rooms before too just as a little treat to myself and the pool area Is also very nice and yes the Seminole paradise area I like... Are you coming in Friday or Sat.?

Saturday.  We fly out of DC at 11:15 (Jet Blue) and arrive FLL at 1:57.  From experience, chances are very good that our rooms will not be ready until 4:00 (or later) so we may end up roaming around the casino for a while until our rooms are ready - no problem for this group !

Even though our group is 22, only 1 other couple is staying with us at the Hard Rock (4 total).  Others are staying at the Hampton Inn (4) and the Ramada Inn (10).  4 of our group are staying with family.

As beautiful as that swimming pool area is and as many times as we have stayed at the Hard Rock, I have never even been down there !  Since we always cruise from Florida during the cold months, it has never really been warm enough to consider going swimming and we rarely have more than 1 night ahead of the cruise.  It's a shame.  One of these days I will make a point to spend some time down by the pool.  It's really beautiful.

The rooms are very nice.  Very luxurious - and BIG.  We always get a suite when we have a cruise that leaves on Saturday (making it a Friday night stay) but since the Allure departs on Sunday, our stay night is Saturday and the Hard Rock does not rent their suites for a Saturday-only stay.  I suspect if I were a high roller in their VIP program they would make an exception, but I am not.  So, it's a standard room this time, but they are very nice too.

The price for the room on this trip is $389.61 (before taxes) which isn't bad for the Hard Rock.  We often cruise for Christmas and the Christmas week prices are WHOA !  high.  I've paid over $500 for one night at Christmas...but that was for a suite.

There's so much to do at the HR that I always feel like we get a little mini-vaca before the cruise even starts.  I just love staying there.  If you're not a gambler and if you are very sensitive to cigarette smoke, then the HR is probably not the place for you...but if you DO gamble and can live with the smoke (even though I am no longer a smoker I am still a very pro-smokers' rights advocate) then it's worth the money and the fact that there are no shuttle services at ALL.  The taxis are very affordable to and from the airport and the cruiseport so I don't mind.
