scanman18
Hi there.... i imagine that this question might have been answered already somewhere but i haven't been able to find it but does anyone know why some people, including Matt and even during his interview with someone from RC and they did it too, but why do some people say Cococay as Cocokey? ChessE4
Cay is pronounced correctly as "key", but since it doesn't rhyme with day, RCI changed it. Can't think of a reason except for marketing. Words change all the time. Err is pronounced correctly as "urr" but everyone mispronounces like "air", so some dictionaries give it preference. So we learn to accept a changing language..... Matt
I always used to say "cay" but when Perfect Day at CocoCay opened, some folks from RC said they would start pronouncing it "key" because that's what the Bahamians say.
twangster
I went to the Bahamas as a kid and later returned as a teenager doing a marine ecology summer program where I spent a few months on Great Abaco Cay. I distinctly remember being schooled to use key, not cay. It was a point of discussion even back then (several decades now).
