Port Cancellation on Canada/NE Cruise Sept 2019

In May, our large group was sent this vague email that only indicates that our Bar Harbor excursion has been canceled because of an "itinerary change".  No where did RC indicate that the port stop in Bar Harbor was completely eliminated.  We found this out only when our travel agent received a note that there was a harbor issue.  Instead we will now be in Portland for two days.  Of course we all believe that RC should compensate us for this.  If you have experienced this with RC, please provide some information for us.

Due to changes necessary, we have cancelled some of your selections for your upcoming cruise. These cancellations are based on one of the following scenarios:

There has been a change to your cruise itinerary or one of the ports visited required for certain selections to be cancelled from your reservation;
There has been a change to the arrival and/or departure time for a specific port that required for certain selections to be cancelled from your reservation;
The item you reserved or purchased is no longer available;
The date of birth of one of the guests has been changed making the purchase no longer valid.

What kind of compensation are you looking for?  Yes, you should be refunded any cost for your shore excursion but beyond that RC does not owe you anything else.  RC has the right to change the ports at any time for numerous reasons, ie weather, harbor issues, propulsion issues, medical evacuations and more. It is in the cruise contract.  Port changes happen ALL the time,  Yes, it is disappointing but sorry you don't deserve any other compensation.  You were notified prior to final payment date and you could always change your cruise if you feel disappointed.

I would look at the layover as an opportunity, as relatively few itineraries have layovers. Maybe you won't feel so rushed in Maine.  In 14 cruises we have had missed ports 3 times due to weather, political problems, tender issues, etc.

This is the Adventure of the Seas, Sept 16th cruise out of Quebec City.

Thanks for your input.  Many of us, not me, are seasoned large ship cruisers including our trip planner, and found it odd that a port would be canceled this far out and an alternative plan other than sitting in Portland another day couldn't have been created. All good businesses have contingency plans.  Apparently, the contract fine print allows RC to ignore good customer service.

I understand your disappointment but these things happen from time to time.  Royal doesn't simply decide they don't feel like going somewhere any more, there is likely a valid reason why they can't stop there on that specific day.

There aren't a lot of alternate ports options in the New England/Canada region to send the ship to as your itinerary already includes all of them.  Many cruise lines use the same ports and options are limited when something occurs that disrupts an itinerary.

A ship can't just go some where, there has to be space available for them and with many different cruise lines visiting the same ports that often means there is no where else to go and they can't completely re-do the entire itinerary.

Fortunately they were able to negotiate an over night stop instead of inserting an extra sea day.
