Cruise Planner Sale- CONFUSED

Recommended Posts

Newbie to cruising. I’ve been following tons of you tubers and EVERYTHING Royal Caribbean Blog, and we don’t sail until March 2020 (I intend on being an expert first time cruiser ?).  There is a cruise planner sale that Matt shared. I understand that it doesn’t necessarily mean it will be on every sailing. My confusion comes from the banners at the corners of the packages. They make it appear the packages are on sale, but the packages have not changed price since they have been available to look at. The deluxe beverage package has been. $57, Refreshment package $28, and Soda package 8.99. Only now they have percentage off banners that state off on board prices. Is this how the sales work? Or is my sailing probably not on sale?

The discounts are off the "onboard" price which they play with and don't tell you what it is.  In wither words, it's royal Caribbean math and it won't make sense!  Just buy early, check often, and if the price goes down cancel and rebook.  There is no penalty to do this!  Enjoy your first cruise!  You will have a great time!  Jane

The easiest way to go about it is to just calculate the total price and decide if that will be a good deal for you.  Don't try to wait for a lower price because it's not guaranteed to happen.  If you see a lower base price for something you already purchased, recalculate and see if you save money.  If so, cancel your previous purchase and repurchase at the lower price.  You'll drive yourself crazy trying to figure out Royal's "sale prices"  I can tell you that $8.99 for the soda deal is the lowest I've seen it in six months, but the Refreshment and Deluxe Beverage have been lower than your post.  Same thing applies for excursions and almost everything else in cruise planner.  It's a pain but try to check your cruise planner at least once a week (before midnight on Sundays) because prices constantly change; feel free to check more often if you choose.

I find that there are numerous "sales" so you don't need to panic and book a year in advance.  Figure out what you want/need first.  For example, when we had inside rooms or an ocean view room, we found the soda package useful for our son, a minor.  Back then the child's price was lower, online ordering was limited or nonexistent, so we paid on the ship.   Later, we discovered we could get a good price on a balcony that came with soda packages, so we looked at something else.  By then our son insisted on wi-fi to communicate with friends.  So that was our "need".  We never got into alcoholic drink packages because there was too much free stuff on board, such as a bottle of bubbly from our agent, Crown and Anchor parties, or the Captain's reception. (Don't forget $1 or $2 mimosas in the casino!)  It was cheaper to buy the occasional drink a la carte.   Frankly, the excursions strike me as the best place to save $$ on a sale.  25% off of a $100 excursion adds up for multiple guests and ports.  So enjoy the pre-cruise research and note your lessons-learned after the trip.  Have fun!

Black friday also seems to be a great time for Cruise Planner sales.  So far the best I've seen for the Deluxe Beverage Package (DBP) is $49 pp/day, for the Refreshment package was $20 pp/day and the soda package at 8.99 pp/day.  I"m not expecting to see anything better unless there's a particularly good sale on 4th of July or Labor Day.

The sale that Matt posted isn't going on for your sailing:

" The Splash into Savings sale runs between June 6 – 10, 2019 and is valid on sailings from June 12, 2019 – December 30, 2019. "

It's funny as prices on that sale seem to be the same as the Memorial sale the other week.

Yep, I've found the sales to be pretty similar - but always check - once I caught an excursion at $130 when every other time it's been on sale for $163 (when not on sale it's over $180).  I also got Chops during one sale at $33pp (for dinner, not lunch) when the sale price is typically much higher.  I tend to check prices several times a week on all of my purchases/cruises, even if they aren't listed on sale (because, yes, I have just that much time).

Sounds like me....I find myself checking everyday.  I guess my vacation, from planning the vacation, will be my vacation. ?

Ditto.  Although I don't check cruise planner items as often but I do mock bookings daily on the cruise itself....and often 2-3 times a day (where only on our Adventure cruise did I actually see a difference from morning to night cost)

Welcome to what we call "Royals Fuzzy Math"  The only way to know if its a good deal is check your cruise planner often...Looks like your doing that by knowing the package price hasn't changed.
