Royal Caribbean - Cuba Cruise - Grandfathered Bookings

Recommended Posts

GRAND FATHER

@ Royal Caribbean Can you comment to the Grandfather  clause  - any trip less than 30 days is fully paid for

So the last trip allowable would be July 8th  or 15th  and after that that trips would not be considered fully booked y company rules. The Grey area is what is considered locked in A deposit or a fully paid trip.

As with Trump's 2017 changes, if any transaction (e.g. flight or hotel booking) is made prior to June 5th, it is grandfathered in and is still legal. Those travelers can still travel under People to People, and still travel on cruise ships. So either P2P 515.565(b) or SCP (515.574)

@Royal Can you comment to your interpretation of Grandfathered

I have been following the latest changes and this is what I understand

1st

  1. 515.565(b) People to People (P2P) travel has been eliminated as of June 5.
  2.  Support for Cuban People (515.574). There has been no change to this category

General License For Support For The Cuban People (SCP) (515.574)

This is the best category for tourists taking tours, cruises, or just flying solo. Here are the summarized requirements:

  1. Use privately owned businesses (e.g. Cuban Bed and Breakfast and  private restaurants, etc.)
  2. Maintain a full schedule (considered 6-8 hour daily, or 40 hours per week) of meaningful interactions that

"Enhance contact with the Cuban people, support civil society in Cuba, or promote the Cuban people's independence from Cuban authorities and that result in meaningful interactions with individuals in Cuba"

These activities are similar to what you would do on a P2P tour. and the Excursions available by the Cruse are considered acceptable:

    • Supporting local artists by visiting galleries and/or purchasing art
    • Conversing with your hosts at your Casa Particular
    • Volunteering
    • Taking lessons (dance, language, music, sport, etc)
    • Shopping in privately owned businesses
    • Eating at privately owned restaurants
    • Taking guided cultural/historical tours
    • Visiting museums or places of cultural significance

Yeah but Royal doesn't seem to want to take a chance and seems to be swapping Cuba out for other places.

We were set to sail on the Empress on June 23, and planned to do "Support for the Cuban People" in both Cienfuegos/Trinidad and Havana.  From my interpretation, private car tours and private city walking tours qualified for "Support..." rather than RC's official excursions, which fall under "Group People to People."

This may all be a moot point if RC does indeed stop all cruises to Cuba.

Every cruise line is ending their cruises to Cuba immediately. There is more at hand here, and RC is responding to a sudden policy shift as best they can.

I understand you're likely frustrated at the change, but this is not in any way the fault of the cruise line.

The issue is that the cruise ships are immediately banned from traveling to Cuba..so the passengers who would be grandfathered actually don't have the ability to make it there.

This is how I see it as well. “Grandfathering” is meaningless for cruisers.
