Day 4 - At Sea

After dinner, we went and saw The Gift.   Ok, so it may be confusing but the music and production was kind cool.  Some of the shows we have seen didn't make sense but the music made up for it at times.   Not sure we would do it again, but kinda cool for a one time gig.

We did sneak out when the cast started their bows.   The last time it took us a little to get the crowd to funnel out before we could.

Milling about for a little bit, we ended up at the 270 for a virtual concert.   Not what we expected but could have been cool if there wasd a different band.   We only hung out for about 20 minutes before getting bored and went wandering.

The Brass and Bock had some nice looking snacks, cause you know ... it was time to eat again.   There was a dude in there playing live music and singing which was better than the virtual concert, at least we thought so.   We ordered up some fried pickles and pretzel bites.   The guy who took our order didn't understand the SC and brought us a bill for about 10 bucks.   He stood the waiting for me to sign it.   Told him he got it wrong and we don't have to pay and he might want to grab the manager.   He seemed confused but left to go inquire.  Few minutes later he came back with a 0 balance bill and apologized.  Shortly thereafter, we had our snacks. Pickle spears were good but didn't care for the pretzel sticks.

We wandered around some more and found our way back to the casino.   Hopefully, this night would be nice to us ... yeah, we were wrong lol.   No additional funds for my retirement,  sigh.  Called it an early night just after 12.

Our son was tired and made it home befor us and was watching TV.  Our daughter was still out roaming with friends.   She showed up about 1, which was her curfew... lucky for her lol.

We tried to sleep in but the body aches from the wave beating woke us up.

Time to ... guess what .... go eat.

Thats Awesome that they take such good care of there Star class Guests.. This is actually the way cruising was 20-25 years ago when I first cruised as a child.. The food in the dining room back then was so damn good lol and they even took special requests like this.. If there was something you wanted all you had to do was ask and they would make it special.. Boy I miss those days but its good to know if I could ever Swing a Star Class Suite I would get that again.. Glad you are having fun I am very much enjoying your review!

Robots make mistakes also ... maybe it's drunk and tipped it glass over lol

When I was on Anthem they wouldn't allow the shake function. Recall being to the robots at the time were having an issue keeping the lid shut or kept using the wrong one.

When we sailed a month ago the one robot frequently spilled when filling the cups, occasionally even dropped the cup in sideways and would still try to fill it leaving a drink 3/4 full, hopefully they had the drink package.

Day 3 - Bermuda

First, let me say .... omg getting old sucks.   My mind says 'hell ya we can do this' .... then my body goes #wtf.

6:45 ... phone rings.  Now, before yall go and get all worked up, it was actually legit.   The past two mornings we have had our soy lattes and a strawberry banana smoothie delivered at 7.  See, we just thought we would be awake by then.   Well the first morning they knocked and knocked then rang the door bell (yeah, we roll like that ... gotta have a door bell).  This time, they called us before to make sure we were awake.   Tomorrow, yeah ... let's delay that stuff till about 9.  If we get up earlier, I'll go hunt down coffee.

We had arranged with Yen to get off by 930.  Since we had to all be back by 3.  This should give us plenty of time to snorkel at horseshoe bay and make a run to Hamilton.  Yen escorted us all the way off the ship and to the shuttles.  We would have been happy to find the shuttles, but let her spoil us.  The shuttles were $7 per person one way.  Not even realizing I should have brought plenty of cash, I was lucky I had some left in my wallet. I do have 'secret' money hidden in my wallet for emergencies ... don't you?  Lol

The shuttle ride is packed with close to 26ish folks.   Glad I put on extra deodorant and made my son put extra on.   The roads are narrow, glad I wasn't driving.   Seeing that makes me realize to NOT do one of those mowped scooter tours.  We made it to horseshoe bay in about 20 minutes.  It was pretty crowded.  We meandered up a rock cliff, past a sign that said don't do it ... but all those other people were ... ok, so me and my daughter decided to scramble up there for a quick picture.

Like I said, it was crowded.   Looking out I was expecting to see calm or semi calm water ... nope, big old crashing waves.   Well crap, there goes the snorkeling plan.  Yeah,  horseshoe bay .... don't try and snorkel.   My son and I acted his age,  he's 12 ... put our flippers and masks on and ran out there.    Three waves later we lose a flipper.... stupid wave.   Luckily, they float so we found it and I ran them back to our towels.   Oh, yeah, um, I forgot to mention ... the water was COLD ... yeah, that was unexpected.   Once you try and slowly get used to it, a wave comes and breaks and laughs at you. Now your cold and wet.  Then another wave comes and knocks you back.   It was actually fun jumping waves.  I was surprised by how much grass there was.  It wasn't seaweed, but rather some type of scratchy grass.    We had a lot of fun but had to be careful.   There was a pretty strong current that was pulling back out.  There were a couple of people that got to far out and the lifeguards had to go get them.  After getting hammered by the waves for a couple hours, we were all 'beat'  lol.   Yeah, no Hamilton run .... another shuttle ride back to the ship and back on board by 1.

The boys claimed the showers first, while the girls took off to hunt down lunch.   Oh yeah, we brought a lot of sand back ... and grass in our pockets.   We ran down to JRs to grab a burger and shake, but they don't open till 2.  I wasn't waiting 30 more minutes, so we snuck into CK.  My BH was already there snacking on a salad so we joined her.  I got a really good burger while my son ordered a pasta that he liked.

The adults retired to the room and the kids went to go meet yo with new found friends.   A nice nap was just what we needed.   But, 2 hours later we woke up and realized just how mean those waves were......ooowww

Guess what, it's time...... to eat...... again.  Back to CK for another filet.

Cruise totals:  filets .... 3

This is your blog host, John.   You have been hanging out with this weirdo.   Yes, I'm also the one behind the periscopes... hope yall are enjoying.

This picture comes fun the Loterie Treetop Adventure.  It's a ropes course with some ziplines on St. Marteen.  It was our second time doing it and is alot of fun.

For those curious about the beach in St Maarten (I still can't spell it right every time), here's a few pics.  You can rent those chairs and go beach lounge.  There's the ship's in the background.  The walk isn't bad but there is a ferry I think is around 5 bucks a person.

The bar below is a cool place to stop and chill.

I have a few pictures of our zipline that I'll post later.

Day 5 - St Maarten

This cruise is going by way too fast.   I mean, it's supposed to be a 9 nighter ... should feel like a long vacation, right.   Guess when your cruising time flies faster than you imagine.   Oh well, it's a lot of fun and we still have a few more days.

It was an early morning, since we forgot to cancel our standing coffee order.   Oh well, we got the rest of the family up and dressed and headed up to CK.  I said we got dressed, I didn't say they were in a good excited mood.   Anyways, ordered up some waffles and French toast and bacon.   Yeah, should have ordered 2 of the French toasts because it was basically one slice of bread ... the waffles,  yeah skip those.   Had a weird texture and didn't taste that good.

We docked around noon and hooked up with Yen to get escorted off the ship for our excursion.   I can make her laugh every time, though sometimes I wonder if it's the polite laugh ... humm...

Our excursion was the zipline and ropes course... the bus drive was only about 20 or so minutes with about 45 of us.  We got there, geared up and took off on the course.   We tried to make our way towards the front since we move a little faster than some.   Took maybe about 45 minutes to do the whole thing, then waited on the bus for everyone else to finish.

I'll have to work on the pictures later and dig out some decent ones.   The ride back was short and they even dropped us off near the main strip so we could shop for a few.

The boys took off in search of The Yoda Guy and the girls went shopping.  Last time here we bought his book which he signed and he signed it again for this yeah.

Nothing else major happening, so we met back up and got back on the ship.  We did have some of those strawberries waiting on us ... yes, put that as a standing order.

Of to Jamie's tonight for dinner so watch for pictures.  The sun had already set, so I wasn't able to scope it ... maybe another night I'll scope the setting sun.    Of course, I have to wait for @Lovetocruise2002 to get home from work lol.

Thanks so much for doing this great Live Blog!  I'm looking forward to our identical cruise in a few weeks on the RC group cruise!  I really appreciate you posting the teen schedule as I have a son (12) and daughter (15)  that are looking forward to it.  We have the late seating scheduled, but now we are debating changing to either My Time or the earlier seating because of the activities for the kids that happen from 8:00-10:00 at night.  Are you or your kids noticing, in general, if those events are must do for teens?

Enjoy the rest of your cruise, and I look forward to the rest of your blog posts!

We found if we wanted our daughter to eat with us, we had to do my time or early seating.  This last Oasis cruise was more flexible (she's 16 and more people had specially dining to work around) but usually they would meet around 8.  Usually they didn't do the events but roamed around the ship, especially as she gets older.  At 12 she did alot of them, or they would do one and then leave.  The first night you definitely want them to be there at 8 for the meet and greet.  Jane

I would recommend doing the any time dining.   We have tried to have a set time for dinner, but after the first couple of nights the kids really wanted to be out on their own.   They decided not to join us for Wonderland or Chef's table since they met friends they would rather hang out with.   Our kids are 12 (son) and 14 (daughter).  Or son is more into the different activities, while our daughter just wants to hang out with new friends and be on her phone #DontGetMeStarted.    So, we have just told them to check in every now and then and their curfew is midnight.   Also, they are not allowed to go to anyone's room or have anyone in our suite unless we are there.

I will say, there are some activites they thought were lame and hardly anyone showed up. .. so they activities may be limited with participation.  I think it may depend also on how outgoing your kids are ....

But, you may want to go with the idea of dinner being the parents and maybe the kids will join .. heh

Have you ventured into the MDR for dinner yet? We're on the Anthem 7/13 for a 5 day Bermuda cruise. Really enjoying your blog, thanks! :27_sunglasses:

Glad you are enjoying following along.   Honestly, we haven't been in the MDR since our cruise on Independence back in 09.  Since we found the coastal we haven't wanted to go back. Lol. Do you want pictures or menu?
